That is just mean!

Dont know if you watched the WA Colts GF.

ZZ Top (Claremont) had another day out. Do you think rumours about ZZ Top zooming up the draft have “legs”?
I hope that is a real player.

I was hoping his name was actually ZZ Tops

Needs to grow a long beard first but until then

I think with how shallow the pool is seen by recruiters, a super athletic, competitive, 196cm player bolting up isn't surprising at all. Probably seen widely as a KPD at AFL level, but with his athletic base I reckon there's real potential as a KPF as well, either end of the ground though, he's unlikely to make it past the second round I think

You have a perfectly good Josh Rotham at home!
Do you think the Swans are a chance to nab him (ZZ) at pick 11?
They don't mind taking WA boys, I think we'd jump at 19 if still there.

Also, what are your thoughts on Aiden O'Driscoll? I was very impressed with what I saw yesterday.

Maybe not for much longer he’s got a few clubs circling at present.

Would quite happily pick him up with our early second rounder, we are in need of a genuine KPD to pair with Bazzo post Barrass and McGovern. Hope he’s still around at that point seems like he is rising quickly.

Not sure about 11 for the Swans, he does fit their general approach of taking really competitive players, but I think Ollie Murphy would appeal more given his safer ball use, a bit more similar to McCartin, and whilst ZZ does have quite high upside I still don't think he'll end up a first rounder.

I like O'Driscoll given how much I think the game is evolving towards speed and endurance for non-KP players, gives it a real crack and applies strong defensive pressure, but definitely a 40s pick in my eyes as it stands.

Expect O’Sullivan and Murphy will be gone by our pick.

Topsy fits the Beatson maverick pick tradition.

If Sanders is gone and O'Sullivan is there at our pick I would see no reason why we wouldn't grab him? Doubt he falls that far.

Question... how do you rate this years draft? Eg are the top 5 players are much better than the rest? Or is basically eg from pick 10-40 are even?

As I gets thoughts from Mackie interview to day they may trade pick 7 to get more picks in the draft.
Cheers
I took Mackie as saying they are in a good position to mean big overs is required points wise.
If 7 is 1644 points, probably 2200 required.
So Geelong would want 10,17 from bulldogs,
Or 13 ,2024r1 from Melbourne.

Top 9 is a clear step above imo, then the next 7 or so, then pretty even until about 35

Hey PMBangers, I love your work Mate. Just wondering if there is a knock on Charlie Edwards? He seems to be a great size, has a burst of speed, can play inside and outside, can kick off either foot, can kick goals forward, a strong overhead mark. To my mind he seems to be the prototype modern footballer. Interested in your thoughts. :)

Top 9 - so really first 6 club picks, once you put it 2 academy and NM compo?
Yeah but it's too grim to say it like that!

Yeah he presents as a really appealing prospect, even moreso in such a shallow draft for mids. I've got a couple of knocks, number 1 is lack of exposure against the top level talents (no champs), it's not the be all and end all but it's always where you can get direct performance comparisons from, but it's obviously out of his control as well.

In terms of play, I don't think he's got a great contested game and can be quite delayed to make his runs around stoppages which sees his opponents get to the ball first more often, so even with his size I don't see a clear transition to an inside mid role at the next level

Why would we care about points at all? They're only relevant for matching bids, not determining the value of selections.

PMBangers how do you rate the man-child, George Stevens?
Its OK I found the Stevens observations - it seems his fate will be determined at the Combine.
If you check his rookiemecentral page the draft profile for him should be up soon and I wrote it, but essentially I just struggle to see him translate as a midfielder regardless of how well he performed in VFL games, more and more we're seeing running power, either through acceleration, kms covered or top speed as a common attribute for some of the better mids in the comp, and Stevens just doesn't have that in his tool bag and doesn't have anything so elite that it compensates for it.

As a defender I don't mind him, but he's still outside 30 for me. He's got fans at afl clubs I know that for sure, so I expect he'll end up on a list and should come in to considerations around Pick 25 onwards

Agree. Elite speed is a high priority with clubs these days. Look at all the top 4 teams, other than Carlton they all have it. GWS improvement is off the back of elite speed. If you have elite speed you will get drafted. If you don’t you need some tricks and I’m not sure what his weapon is. Stevens is a good player and he will get drafted, but probably in the 40 range imo. I’m sure he’s fine with that.

Saw Will Brown won BOG in the grand final and cooper lord and tyson shruk both had great games do you see any on them betting a look in late?
