Draft Expert PMBangers 2023 Draft Thread

After going back over a lot of vision for his draft profile I'm really conflicted on Archer. He's got some really unique traits for his height in his cleanliness at ground level and general mobility, good leading patterns and work rate, but I'm less convinced hes going to realise his potential at the top level than i was a month ago.

I think he's going to be a safe bet to be there at 20, but after that given the evenness of the crop I think clubs will favour his traits and potential over shorter options
Archer Reid or Riley Weatherill.

Or is more likely to “make it” as a genuine key forward?

And would you have Logan Morris ahead of both on pure ability and talent?

I'd still back in Reid given the diversity of his skillset, and his high end traits are pretty standout as a direct comparison to Weatherill, but I'm honestly not seeing either becoming a number 1 KPF at the next level without some significant development. Reid I think is a better chance of making it, just personally but developing the physical side of a players game is easier than getting meaningful athletic improvement

That's an interesting one to consider, Morris is certainly a stronger mark than both of them, more comfortable with contact than Reid and more mobile than Weatherill. I guess if they were all 195 cm with the same mobility and athleticism then yeah Morris becomes the more appealing of the 3 if that's what you mean

Hi mate.

Who do you think Hawthorn will be looking at, with what will now most likely be pick 5.

I don’t think McKercher or Duursma will still be available as I think North will take both assuming they don’t trade up to pick 1.

I’m of the opinion that they’ll be looking at Curtin, Caddy or Watson.

Would love to know your thoughts.

Thanks PMBangers.

Do you have a draft range for Morris?

Basing it on how I see the class, Curtin is the best available of those 3, although I'm not sure what your defensive stocks are like either and whether you'd be happy to compromise a little on BPA at the top end woth McCabe coming in. Caddy and Watson wouldn't be bad fits if that was the case, given Brockman and Kotchiske are heading off
Thanks PMBangers.

Anything 25+ I say, from what I'm gathering that top 25 is pretty similar across the board for clubs, onwards from there it'll be throwing darts at a board trying to decipher what'll happen.

Personally I'd be hoping to get him in the rookie draft though

I think it's time for the AFL to look at a better way to get the data the clubs are after at the combine. The combine is not what it use to be, probably why some clubs are running their own testing which include ball skills. No one does it better than the NFL. This should be the AFL's starting point to build a testing program for the athletes which includes various skills.
True. If you look at combine records most of the top testers dont make it at AFL level, the testing doesn't correlate very well to the athleticism of a game.

Bangers, with Stephens and Fisher going to the Kangaroos, both mids and both left footers, does this impact the roos’ desire to bring in McKercher, also a left footer and mid? Is it more likely they target Curtin and, say, Watson?

I'm not sure it plays too much into consideration tbh

Can you quickly do a phantom draft with current picks please before we shift it all to the Eagles?

Haven't followed this year's draft too much. In what order would you rate these mids coming out of their respective drafts?
Wardlaw, Tsatas, Mckercher and Sanders. Cheers

Rookie at best IMO

Leake reminds me of Sam Docherty when he's playing half back and Toby Greene when he's up forward, moves exactly like Docherty too. Just looks a total natural in both positions and looks like he can play midfield pretty well too from the limited vision I've seen of him on ball. 188cm is a fantastic size for those positions and looks courageous and tough.

Smokey for a top 5 player in this draft when it's revisited in a few years imo.
Interesting on Leake, I saw complete Fyfe vibes when I watched his vids, couldn’t un-see it. The kicking action, the running gait, the way he launches at the ball in the air and on the ground.

Pre ACL's Doch probably a better and longer kick but in the air I find the resemblance uncanny. Such a shame that Doch's knees didn't hold up for us, remember in 2017 he was Tom Stewart esq in the air for a smaller defender.

Curtain is a left footer as well. Clarko does love his left footers.

Yeah I can’t see Doch in Leake personally, funny how the mind works huh. I just see Fyfe. Weird.
Doch was def on track to be a star prior to knee, no doubt.

PMBangers who are the gun key forwards at pick 79?
Very slim pickings my friend, I doubt 79 gets used though unless someone slips dramatically. Logan Morris has a similar style to Mihocek without the Endurance at the moment, so may be one to look at as a potential like for like
