Joke as we like about the lack of trades but last year there were fans demanding a solution to our forward line issues. Instead we picked up grundy and you could argue it cost us a flag, especially with petty going down. Now, we fast forward a year and nothing has changed. nothing except for the likely inclusion of Shane McAdam

Another tall player who loves Freo. Perfect, we'll get a couple of good years out of him, then flip for multiple firsts.

By the time he wants to go back, Reid wants to come back to Vic and a clean swap Well least for North unless they are gun-shy of interstate players.

If Curtin slipped to us I'd be over the moon, he's been my favourite prospect out of the draft for a while now, I don't want to get my hopes up about getting him though. I highly doubt he slides and if he did, and it became apparent close to the draft that he was going to be available with our pick I reckon we would end up doing the trade to West Coast for 1.

Koschitzke, Khamis and Chol were all available. They all would be more than serviceable and improve our forward line imo

Fairly uninspiring off season, possibly lost more talent than we will be bringing in.

Suspect a fair few from this draft pool won’t make it either as they were competing against trash most of the time in the under age comp.

Had some golden opportunities to shake things up but the club went into its shell.

Haven’t even managed to get our superstar recruit McAdam over the line yet.

I tend to agree with danster here especially after we made a hail mary play for Hawkins. We obviously saw a need for a better tall forward but didn't try to get any of the obvious options

Koschitzke, Khamis and Chol were all available. They all would be more than serviceable and improve our forward line imo

I wouldn't have minded us going for Chol, but who knows, maybe we asked the question and got rejected.

Koschitzke and Khamis (who stayed, anyway) don't really add anything we don't already have with JVR/Fritsch/Petty/Smith though.

I don't buy this. Chol was being courted by a number of teams who were eventually rejected for Hawthorn. We were never mentioned among those sides.

Overlooking Chol was ridiculous. Especially at the price of a future second.

Especially considering the money we would have freed up from Grundy and Harmes.

My thoughts exactly, front load a 3 year contract.

I was a fan of getting Hawkins if we could make it happen but yes, it appears that we only like 30+ year old trees as key forwards.

Did anybody pose the question to Tim Lamb at any point?

I'm just implying that we could have asked earlier in the year/pre-trade period and been knocked back, hypothetically. Anyway, I dare say the reason we didn't go for him was the lack of 'competitiveness' that Goodwin craves.

I'll grant that as an error, absolutely. The hand-wringing over a lack of a trade for a superstar KPF is silly though, considering there are none on the market.

Petty and JVR, JVR and Koschitzke, JVR and Khamis – it will all make minimal difference if we continually kick to packs of 10 in the forward pocket.

Would it be nice to have a Lynch/King/Naughton type that can clunk marks in packs? Absolutely, but it doesn't appear that they are/were realistic options.

I'm not, I just think prioritising bringing some guys who can kick the footy into the team is where we should ultimately be focusing our efforts (which I hope we do through the draft).
