Mich Cleary now saying port may trade 25 elsewhere to get other deals done

Thats good..if he ends up in the draft they wont get him and i still think he might turn around and stay if the options are say geelong or north in the draft.

I agree on most of that. Only thing I can think of is if you're keen on making a few moves before trade period ends and want some picks to move now rather than on draft night
After searching the posting history of your ITK I think Geelong is waiting to see if the crows trade up specifically for Sanders. That makes the most sense to me. If they do I think they'll trade out

He will make it.
Whilst it's tougher to make it these days if you're a tad slow, he has a good engine and hulking frame. Chook Constable was a featherweight by comparison. This bloke is a mountain.
Agree.

He's more Will Gould than Constable, he's a big boy and will need a pre-season, but it's not all puppy fat.

He's got a legitimately big frame and will convert to a Josh P Kennedy body composition IMO as he gets into the system.

He's not Constable at all. Despite being much bigger, he can actually run. Might not be the quickest, but his endurance won't be an issue.

If he's available post 40 I hope we swoop in.

At post pick 40 he’d be worth taking the punt on. Reckon he will be there then too.

Exactly. They want Esava, BZT, Sweet & Soldo. It's 48hrs until deadline and they've achieved 0/4.
Thats what happens when you give up the farm to get JHF & Rioli. They don't have much trade capital left yet they want to pick up players on the cheap.
Not sure how they get these deals done except for Sweet.

Curtin would be a dream. Pavlich style player who's so good that you can just throw him anywhere and he'll thrive.

My only worry is he might be a flight risk. I just can't see how he gets to us otherwise.

Can play anywhere, and has shown form everywhere, so it's not a matter of the clubs higher up the order having differing needs.

It's a bit wierd the whole Esava being the difference between Port winning a flag or not common opinion. I think back to early 2022, travelling to Melbourne from Perth (home) with my wife and seeing the Cats getting smashed by Stkilda. At that point I literally thought there's no way we can win a flag, our list is crap. After that we won the rest of the games for the season... maybe i should visit more often lol... but back to point...
There are intangibles that lead a team to winning a premiership. Of course putting a player or two in helps which helped Collingwood. But it doesn't really seem like a list is the entire picture for a premiership team. Likewise Port getting Sav doesn't mean much for there flag prospects imo.
Ports forward line isn't good enough. Far too reliant on Dixon who has to be patched up and pushed out of his wheel chair to play. Finlayson, Marshall & Georgiades go missing in action too often & young Lord is still very raw.
Hinkley won't win a flag with this group but he is trying to top up before he goes.

But hopefully he is playing for the Cats next season !!!

I've thought all along he was no chance to get through, talk Dees and Dogs dont need mids baffles me, sure they are loaded for ready made talent but they have next to nothing coming through, especially the Dogs who will lose Treloar and Libba before they know it.
It shows the weakness of this draft that the top key position players are being touted as picks after the top batch of mids…. Usually the high quality talls are not slipping through to 8-10 like caddy and O’Sullivan…..

Honestly, I reckon he is most likely gone inside top 30, and wouldn't shock me if inside top 25.
He feels like a Sydney pick to me.

They don't seem to fear taking the 'Man-Children' so to speak and they back themselves in to turn them into great runners (Gould, Sheldrick, Parker, even JPK in his Hawthorn days)

I was listening to a podcast with JPK, and he mentioned that Sydney's pre-seasons were brutal.

No footys until post christmas, and they are long, grueling sessions of 5-10km runs which is rare at clubs these days. Hawthorn for instance where more about repeat sprints and they were rarely over 3 minutes.

If he's available post the Cleary bid I could see them trading back in. They could use an extractor like him who feeds it out to Warner, Gulden & Campbell. SCG helps the bigger mids too, less ground to cover.

Stevens certainly runs much better than constable endurance wise.

My main question is whether he has a second position to make it in if he doesnt as a mid. Some of his games at half back were encouraging in that regard as his disposal seems reasonable.

You, and others, have said this a few times.

But it’s based on nothing. There’s no precedent. It’s literally never happened.

Theres also no precedent for the largesse of picks north have been given (outside of the expansion clubs which were setup in a specific way) so i dont think your point about it never having happened therefore it wont now, is not accurate-its an apples and oranges comparison

I'd take pick 25 instead

both GIF

Ports approach reminds me of us in 2015 .when we gathered Dangerfeild,Henderson, Smith and Selwood .... but when we did that we had a Fr1 and a Fr1 to use...and selwood was a FA.

To chase players like they have with limited trade collateral has been a bit irresponsible. They alwasy seemed short of amo top get BZT, Sav and Solo. Sweet would probably be easily done.

Id like to seee his numbers. His endurance is probably good enough but does he have the speed to play outside at afl level. Others will decide that... but some many of the best players are one role. If he is a late pick because of this then he is a baragin and worth a gamble. He was a standout in our VFL when he played.. he might have been better than Hardie. imo he should be only better when a full time professional.

Yeah that's what I ment...

Sorry. Twomey's lat is probably more accurate than most phantoms because of its last minute adjustments and the data he gets from opposing clubs about what other will do and who they will pick.
It will be interesting this year to compare his final R1 to his earlier efforts as he has been reasonably strong on there being a best ten or so.
