I think the whole thing with Reid is the media hype. Draft stories rate/get lots of hits so painting someone in a draft class as some sort of super-human future 10 x Brownlow Medalist is good for business. Hype sells. People fall for it. West Coast fans, North Melbourne fans did as well - it really distorts reality and ignores the likelihood that Reid won't be the best player in his draft class. Any look at previous number ones and their standing on a revised draft order attest to this. While Reid might be consensus number one - the reality is that most years all experts settle on the same consensus and in most cases history proves them wrong.
But in any case the point is the whole Reid thing is absolutely media driven, click-bait. He might be the best in his class but the narrative that was presented throughout the year, the narrative that generates clicks is the one which favours hyperbole over reality.
West Coast could very well rate McKercher higher than Reid or at least very similarly but in any case, if they retain pick one, they'll pick Reid. It's not worth the risk to them, it's not worth the carry-on from the fans.
If they have the intention of not picking Reid then they'll end up with pick 2. It's really that simple.

Yep correct - I got my maths mixed up - he’s 19 - I think I got 21 from the number of NFNL games he’s played. Oops.
If we think back, Jason Horne (AKA Horne-Francis) was hyped up in exactly the same way... Generational, best of the draft class, certain pick #1 etc.
He's now had two years at AFL level and despite getting some Brownlow votes, he has really only contributed a few cameos (hints of considerable skill and ability, but not consistantly brilliant over an entire match).
Reid might be better. McKercher, Curtin, Duursma or even somebody outside of the top 20 might end up being better over a career. I think that the entire football reporter cohort generate hype to keep themselves employed. Does anybody believe any of it?

Soldo and Sweet look like they went fairly cheap, particularly Sweet. Surely we could have offered better and snagged one of them?
Would be happy if we added him as a rookie, we have the 2 extra list spots.
He is raw but has potential.

Just because we are looking to move up doesn’t mean it is to add to a Pick 1 trade…I think we won’t go hard for it based on the past offer and trades, we are not the north of old re trades and picks (or at least I hope that’s the case)…Gut feel is trade two late teens for a top 10 to take to the draft, keeping one late teen and Pick 2 for a crack at Pick 1…

Well that was worth holding out for.
Geelong are a joke - those picks will probably be in the 60’s once academy father son picks are done and some teams pass. Seems ridiculous after they were offered 25 on day 1.
Mackie looks like he’s going to be a massive twat to deal with ala Dodo. Haggling over 76 and 95, kidding himself.
76 is their 3rd highest pick currently so at the moment. They will have to use it.
Joke is a big call.....they've been pretty slick at trades and drafts over the past 20 years. Think they'll take a mulligan on this week though. But they always have something going on we are not aware of. There's probably some red-headed gun kid they are hiding in Corio who will come out of nowhere and be premiership player
