While I dont disagree with this, in that 2019 draft if you threw a dart blind folded for the first 20 players, you would have likely ended up far better player than McAsey. In fact we would have been better off with pick in the teens, as hopefully someone would have "taken" McAsey ahead of us.

I think the talk at the time was that we were interested in McAsey and Stephens and thought at least onbe of them would be there if we traded back.

So, wouldn't have made much difference if we hadn't traded back, except that we wouldn't have Pedlar.

Lots of talk that Essendon will take O’Sullivan before us. I think it will be Wilson or leak for our first pick as they will be the ones left on the board at this tkme
I just cant see Nicks wanting an outside wingman in Wilson with our first pick.
He has shown that isn't the type of player he likes in the team

Agree …. Wilson or Leake for us

Have heard Melbourne might take Leake in top 10 though ( pick 8?)

Outside wing but also high half forward capability

I can’t see us going for Windsor but I can see us going for Wilson who has a bit more to his game

And Wilson isn't as outside as some seem to think, pity most only watch highlight reels because he's proved he goes OK playing inside in the Bushies on ball brigade when played in there, even at the Nationals and in the academy games he's shown he's not frightened to get his hands dirty if and when required.
He reminds me of a more forward half Brodie Smith.

He's 75kg's, he ain't playing inside mid any time soon
I just think we have bigger needs elsewhere around the ground

Just in regards to size he will take a while to get inside but I believe he will eventually too

In the meantime we can do with a skilful outside ball carrier that runs like the wind all day

You want to keep playing Sholl on the wing ?

We haven’t got an A grade winger ( that can also play forward ) so I think it’s a great need but talent trumps need anyway

I’m just as excited / happy if we draft Leake

Will Graham is my smoky pick for us too

Adelaide's 1st and future 1st is the equivalent to what Richmond paid for pick 2 Tim Taranto... there is no way in hell an uncontracted Phillipou is worth close to that. He's largely unknown to most AFL fans.
You serious ? Played every game in a top 8 team last year and was barely 18 yo

The closest possible thing to Bont in the league going forward

But we haven't been playing Sholl ?
I'd love to see Nankervis given a good run in the wing role, I think he is well suited to the position.
I wonder how long we keep playing Soligo there before he goes to the inside midfielder.
And we had Jones playing wing before his injury.
And we will need to squeeze Smith and Sloane in there somewhere

There's heaps or noise linking him to us. Same as Rachele.
Yeah ....but a lot of that noise is simply media playing follow the leader

Personally, I think we'll be happy with whoever we pickup ......I'm just not enamoured with a Tassie player

We don’t need to squeeze Sloane in anywhere !

Having a kid that can run a 5.50 2km but also with sublime agility and skill with ball in hand is a need every day of the week

Could literally play him anywhere

There’s no substitute for talent early in the draft over positional need

What your needs are in 2023 won’t be the same by the time he’s at his peak

Heard some chat, that Specialist Wingers are considered a big part of team structures these days ......MELB have purposely targeted Wing players .....and Josh Daicos was hugely influential this year

IMO I'd go Wilson / Windsor over a James Leak

Wilson’s centre square impact for Murray was not at all bad for a 75kg guy, more the spreader than the distributor of course but pretty consistently accumulated and used the ball well

I also like that he more often than not looks to use his speed wherever he’s playing, whether it be middle, wing or half forward

Yeah it might take him a few years to become a mid at AFL level, but I firmly believe the results will more than pay off once he gets there

One only has to look at young Ollie Hollands at the Blues this year, a very similar player draft year wise and IMO Darcy Wilson is a step up from Ollie in almost all areas of their games, better disposal a major difference.
Yep he’s my comparison too but Wilson is better and more dangerous forward of centre

Different player and not as combative but he’s got some of the danger with ball in hand that Butters had coming though

Yep look at Langdon at Melbourne

Has been an extremely key player in their success

And guess what …. Wilson runs just as hard and as long as Langdon and that’s a huge weapon

Don’t sleep on Leake though , he’s my Tom Stewart of this draft
