Aston Villa are doing my head in despite their good form. Really need that transfer window to open so we can acquire a legit Striker. Reckon Watkins is better suited as an Attacking Midfielder.
If you're a villa fan this is one of the most bizarre takes ever

Why is that? We struggle when attacking. Firstly, too conservative (see games vs Bournemouth and Sheffield United), we pass it around and around the box waiting/hoping for a defender to break structure. We lack the chutzpah to go in quickly down the wings and cross it in. Last few games Watkins has barely seen the ball. Other teams heavily involve their Striker, give him many opportunities to have a go, and do it quickly often. We just seem to hold the ball up and play too much possession. That to me is because we lack a bonafide Striker.

If we push Watkins back to AM, and utilize him centrally, utilize his playnaking ability more, with a more classical Striker ahead, it would foster a more aggressive attacking philosophy.

We are obviously playing a more conservative game, try to nullify and strangle on defense, try not to make costly mistakes, keep the game tight.

Mauricio is that you?

Statistically this is one of the least effective means of attack.

Other teams heavily involve their Striker,

Pre Haaland, City won plenty without a classical striker. You could argue Spurs are better without the best striker of the past decade.

Even if that is the answer, who the hell can they buy in January?

Sorry mate I don't get this at all. Gerrard had Watkins playing as a st who moved around the pitch almost like a free 10 and he and Villa were terrible. Emery came in, told him to focus on being a striker and he's become one of the best players in the league.
To move him out of position to accommodate Chris Wood doesn't make sense to me. There would be some arsenal fans who would take Watkins of Jesus as their number 9 because Watkins is a better finisher.

What playmaking ability?

FIFA isn't real life.

I understand your comment. AM would be playing him out of position in all your eyes.

Fair criticism, but I just don't see Watkins as a single Striker anyway. Maybe if we played with 2, he could be a complimentary asset to the main tall say.

Or, maybe it's just the wrong gameplan, holding play up and playing poasession. But so many other teams attack with more vigor, quickly get the ball in via a cross or make incisive runs thru the middle, commit players to go forward

The 'wrong gameplan' has Villa in 3rd.

Wouldn't say he's a better finisher nor one of the best in the league. He's also incredibly streaky

You don’t think Spurs are better this year than last?
We are. Our last friendly of pre-season was against UCL regulars (whose season had started) Donetsk. He scored 4 goals.
He'd be banging them in with the chances we're making.

Hence my other question. You're arguing we're better without him, yet the Aussie causing that had you a tad sarcastic towards him.
Isn’t that Angeball that everybody raves about?

Jesus is or was more of a Winger before he came to Arsenal. He isnt a commanding figure, a classical Striker. I'm not saying Watkins is bad whatsoever. Hes definitely a better finisher than Jesus. But something is amiss with Villa's attack. It might not be Watkins, just the overly conservative approach (play not to lose mentality). Villa were more industrious earlier in the season, now that theyve cracked the top 4, maybe theyre just playing too cautiously

No it isn't. Only Man City have scored more goals in the league this season.

Villa are the second highest scoring team in the league I just don't get it lol

That’s fair. I was genuine about Spurs this year. However, I also don’t subscribe to “there is only plan A” and nothing else that many praise Ange for, which is where my snarkier comments come from.

And yeah, I don't know exactly who they could target to buy, but I do still think they need another forward. Either an AM to service Watkins better with a mentality to be more direct/quicker....or, another Striker (playing 2) so that they can compliment each other, put the CBs in more of a bother, free up one or the other.

Woods certainly had a good game recently.

I dunno if you're just being different for the sake of it but since Emery took over Watkins is the third highest premier league scorer behind Haaland and Salah and has more than 10 assists aswell. Clearly one of the best in the league and a better finisher than Jesus

Hi, this is Brades.

Watkins or Toney.

Look at how ManU stormed back against us. They were quick, decisive, aggressive, and created far more chances in the game, hence reeled us in and went ahead.

We wouldve lost vs Brentford if it wasnt for their send off. We were dawdling with the ball up until then, lucky to get that brilliant late header by Watkins, and lucky that late header by Zaniola vs SU too. But it also shows if they play with more urgency thru the guts of the game, instead of leaving it late, we couldve scored such goals sooner and won games 3-1 instead of drawing 2-2 or 1-1.

Thats my main frustration. They just dawdle too much, be a little more aggressive, direct, instead of waiting for the opposition to make mistakes.
