If you’re coming to this thread with an open mind and haven’t experienced a Big 4 environment this is a very accurate representation.

This year is the first time we have experienced a big 4 environment in over two decades ;)

I've seen points missed by further, but not often. This one's just for you:

Sorry, my mistake for taking it on face value. I suppose your arrogance is also ironic?

Today's email ...

Dear Aph,

I just wanted to reach out to wish you, your family and all your loved ones a safe holiday period and a very happy New Year.

I hope over the coming weeks you are able to enjoy some time with those closest to you and create some great memories with one another over the summer.

It was fantastic to see thousands of us come together at IKON Park for Open Training on Saturday, a terrific ‘whole of club’ day that encapsulated the essence of what 2023 was for our football club.

Regardless of how you choose to spend the festive season, as one Carlton family, it is a nice time to reflect on what we have all experienced together over the last 12 months.

Personally, pride is the main feeling that comes to mind for me.

Not necessarily in the wins on the field, as enjoyable as they were, but more so in the intangible qualities that are now engrained in who we are as the Carlton Football Club.

These include our stability across all areas, our steadfast belief in who we are and what we now stand for, and most importantly the deep connection we feel for this football club that we hold so close to our hearts.

Being proud to wear our monogram when we step out of the house.

Being proud to see a fellow Bluebagger down the street.

Being proud to be Carlton.

This feeling does not just come from what we do on the field. If that was the case, such emotion would be only fleeting and to be honest, unsustainable.

Most importantly, it comes from the way in which we carry ourselves. Humble, Respectful, Relentless and with Integrity.

Our connection together as Carlton people runs so much deeper than just the win-loss.

That is why I know that what we are building here will be sustainable.

So, as we close the chapter on 2023, I want to thank you for being such an important part of this new era for the Carlton Football Club.

In 2024 there is a focus on genuine selflessness, of understanding that who and what we represent as Carlton people is so much greater than any individual.

Vossy touched on it so well in his letter last month when we wrote, ‘it is clubs that earn success, not teams’.

That phrase resonated strongly with me because it is so true, especially at our football club.

Because at Carlton, our people are our competitive advantage.

Whether that be in the values our players, coaches and staff live by, in the passion of our supporters and especially in the connection each and every one of us share as fellow Bluebaggers.

Make no mistake, our willingness to stick together, to be Stronger Together, no matter what challenges come our way – that is what will define us in 2024.

We enter next year with no guarantees, other than we are a hungry football club who understands it has much respect to still earn in this competition.

For now though Aph, I sincerely hope that you can enjoy a break and time with those who mean the most to you.

Thank you for everything you have given this football club in 2023.

Together, in 2024, the Carlton army marches as one.

Go Blues,

I’m good with the verbosity.
The man loves to have a word 😂

Happy to see Stronger Together sticking around. I like that. It’s so obvious it come come across as trite, but for a culture that’s excelled at division and factions for decades, I don’t think it can be rammed home hard enough. Feels inclusive without being mawkish too.

Well, one thing about that email, it taught me a new word: 'engrained'.
I was sure it was just an error and should have been 'ingrained'. Good thing I decided to check first.

Is it ingrained or engrained? Ingrain is a verb that means to impress something deeply or permanently. Engrain is an alternative spelling, but it is not as common and not as widely recognized. (Mind you, I don't recognise 'recognized' either :p )

Ok, nerd moment over, carry on.

THE CARLTON Football Club has today informed its members that President Luke Sayers will seek an extension of his Term of Office.

Sayers has proposed to continue as President for a further 12 months (until the end of 2025), in order to continue to provide the stable and strong leadership that will be crucial to the Club’s ambitions, as it enters an important period in its history.

Wrong direction.

Sayers has done fine, but the PWC circus will stalk him.

Luke would be best to gracefully depart, so that his other activities don't overbear the club's on-field efforts

Hasn't overshadowed anything so far.

Sayers has kicked plenty of goals and stability is important right now.

don't agree, i think he should be damaged goods because the PWC thing is appalling but so far it hasn't touched him or the club and the club seems to be in the best state its ever been in the modern era.

(maybe i'm just a hypocrite?)

Great news

My take is MLG did a great job getting the club back on track financially and then Sayers has built on it and taken us to a new level.

Where we are is the result of 8-10 year hard work by a number of good people.

The appointment of Cook will go down as Sayers greatest achievement

Bingo Soapy, ship didn’t start turning around in the last 18 months
