Pi$$ Off.

Our board was elected by members to make such decisions, not you. If you don't like what they have done, then don't vote for them at election time.

We are not Carlton or Richmond and if you want to unstabilise the club, go and barrack for one of those teams, you're likely to find more people there who agree with your course of action.

Not everyone will agree with the board's decision, but like the players, try and embrace it. Your actions will only cause factions which will destory years of off field stability built at this great club.

For the sake of this club's long term future, leave things alone.

As a Richmond supporter having suffored so many morons whio try to go over the boards head, I know from experiance that it does not help at all.
All they do is **** up the club and ruin any plan that is in place becuase of instability.
At this very minute their is a group of ****wits trying to cause trouble and get Wallace the sack and bring in Sheedy as coach.

I am of the opinion that all these people are complete and utter ********s

Our stability is a reason we are not a rabble. The cry of "sack the board" is a very Richmond/Carlton thing to do when there is something you don't agree with.

What a load of immature rubbish, and I completely agree with the original poster.

Everyone gets on their high horse and thinks that just because they're a member they've got the right to try and run the club. This mob who think they know everything and are going to challenge the board to an EGM better think twice, because I'm backing that there are a lot of Essendon members willing to cop the Sheedy decision on the chin if it meant that the club remains stable.

These people have no idea about the ins and outs of the decision, and think that from so far away from the inner sanctum of the club they know what the right decisions are.

They are only challenging the Board for answers at this stage which I dont think is unreasonable.
I too would like to know their reasoning for the decision. If they arent willing to provide that then I too would put forward my vote of no confidence in the board. They are there by our vote and we shouldnt be kept in the dark.

I think Peter Jackson summed it up in the press conference when he said that the club wanted to have a coach with a long term view (3-5 years). Obviously they are of the opinion that Sheeds is not a long term proposition as a coach at this particular point in time and want to set up the future of the club by appointing a new coach now to start planning for the post Hird, Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher era.

I'm not sure what more there is to say.

And you dont belive that Sheeds was looking that far ahead at all? I think all coaches are constantly planning for the years ahead.
That is a rather weak excuse in my opinion and if that is the actual reason (which I doubt) what gives them that opinion?

I'm sure there are other reasons as well, which the board would know about which are not for public consumption.

At the end of the day, just by having supporters asking questions, the media will blow this up into something that's it's not, that's what they do. We don't need these distractions now that the side has a chance to make the finals and we don't need this negative publicity, which will have a detrimental effect on the club, even if it wasn't meant to.

Like I said, if you don't like what the board have done, don't vote for them next election. But don't destroy what we have, because a lot of people have worked extremely hard for a long time to get us in the position of strength we are currently in.

The reason we are not like those clubs is because we stick together through hard times.

We always aspire to be the best and that means having the best person for the job.

We don't make change for changes sake but recognise when it is required.

Pull your head in.

I believe this group have our (the fans) best interests in mind when asking the question of the board on this matter. This is not the first decision this year that has put the board off-side with the fans.
It is all well and good to say they are thinking of the future, but in my opinion they have become a little arrogant in their manner, and very forgetful of the wishes of the paying public.
To the comment that Sheedy is gone and we should just move on, he is not quite gone yet, until the members have their say. I do not particularly want disruption at the club, however if that is what it takes to make the board honest and accountable, then so be it.
In the end I just want what is best for the club, and that means being open and honest about all things, and with all interested people.
Go Bombers!

Nicely put.

You may think the board has become arrogant, I applaud them for having the balls to make such a big decision.

The easiest thing they could've done is said "He'll probably retire in 5 years time and everyone will be happy that he's gone on his own terms, let's just give him another contract". But they've decided that change was required now and had the courage to follow through with it.

This is all very nice but footy club boards always lie in the media and are always full of people with their own adgenda's. It is a very naive approach to want the warm and fuzzy baord that lives in pefect harmony with all the members. The club is now an multi million dollar buisiness , you cant simply overthrow the whole board and bring in 11 fresh faces from nowhere to run things. You cant have the wish's of the paying public having control of the club. In this game they are playing for sheep stations.
Go back through the history of footy clubs and see how successfull challenges to over throw boards have actually been.
Thankfully there are a lot of members out there who see the big picture and dont get caught up in the small picture emotional issues.
Would i want to overthrow the board, NO. There are too many other issues to consider that are above the coaching issue.
Would i vote for all the current board members , NO. There are a couple that should have been voted out a few times now.
Would i vot to keep Ray, No not as president. I admire that he was the one willing to put his hand up and take on the role no one really wanted. I dont have a problem with the decision to move on from Sheedy. I do however has question marks on his abilitly to properly handle the media. It is not his area of strength at all.

The worst thing that has happened is Ray Horsburgh lying to not just the Essendon members, but everyone. Those of us who've seem/heard very little from him or of him, therefore no idea of who he is and what ideals he represents, this was not a good 'First Impression' to say the least and has inspired very little of what we are used to having in our presidents, 'confidence.'

All that being said, the board members did what they thought was right and we all have to respect that decision. There's simply no valid reason at all as to why there should be a challenge at board level. These nuff nuffs calling for blood are unintelligent and embarrassingly disrespectful of not just the EFC but it's members and fellow supporters. It's time to move on and understand change is constant no matter how hard you wish to deny it.

Yeah exactly.

I have a lot of love for Sheeds, we all do, but the board have a job to do, which is to put the club's best interests ahead of sentiment. They weighed it up, came to a decision on what the best course of action was, and that's what they did. It's rough to handle but we need to respect that.

For those unhappy, you have one option which I recommend you take: put your own candidates up for the next Essendon board election. If you're not prepared to do that, then screw off.

As for this supporter group trying to bully the board into reinstating Sheeds:I think it's certain they won't even come close to achieving their goal, but hypothetically if they did, it would be the worst thing for the club - far worse for example than if the board had simply decided to renew Sheed's contract. Sheedy would feel that the legitimacy had gone out of his role, and that's only the start of it.

Are you the muppet that called up triple m on sat morning?

If you are please leave the club and support someone else

I'm not sure about the whole situation...
I admire the board for having the balls to make the decision to sack Sheeds, but I'm a little puzzled in why! is it the players not playing for him? Is it Sheeds not looking towards the future? Is it that they have someone in mind to be his successor? thats what I want answers for and so do the 5 people who are challenging the board...
The one thing I do know for sure is that Essendon DONT MAKE BAD DECISIONS thats why I am against throwing out the board...

**** off to al the EFC members who aren't going to renew too... Please change your club support to Kevin Sheedy not Essendon.. Disloyal ****s

And I hope the new Coach comes in and wins the premiership next year and stick it right up everyone...

There is an assumption being made that those who are *for* Sheeds are getting sentimental...perhaps there's something in that, but I have to question 'change for change's sake' which is something the board seem to be doing...

My biggest issue with the non renewal of Sheed's contract is who *will* ultimately replace him...I would have wanted to secure someone who fans may at least perceive to be able to deliver something out of the ordinary (Thompson anyone?), as I'm sure Sheedy would have over the next few years.

Sheed's record stands for itself, a premiership every 6.8 years is something other clubs only dream of...

So to give those fans some credit...,perhaps the challenge wouldn't be felt necessary if there was a belief that the board actually did know what the heck they were doing...

FWIW I will support the Bombers no matter what, but geez I really hope they have already got someone special...
