It’s the last game of the season so all players are now listed as out for the season

Chesser and Burgiel have both been removed from the list after recovering from their respective injuries

Andrew Gaff has retired and won’t be available to play

What setback? They found the issue when he arrived at the club and it was discovered in the first week. There's been no 'setback' and he's now back in full training.

Please refrain from explanations, clarifications and presentation of facts.

This thread is for unhinged rants, meltdowns and personal interpretations of events (plus whatever other conspiracy theories one can come up with) :)

This clubs injury management is a joke. Can't blame bad luck when it happens over and over again. Is it a coincidence it's been shit since covid began and therefore soft cap reduction so since then they can't afford anyone good? Doesn't help when paying a shithouse head coach heaps so can't spend money elsewhere

I really don't have any faith in the management of injuries for our young players at this club.

It's really doing my head in.

Last thing we want is to be useless, get a higher draft pick, pick a top talent and then subsequently they're on the injury list with issues they cannot overcome, wiping out months of development.

Hewett missing right now is really annoying. Aware he apparently had the issue pre draft. Archer Reid not playing sucks, yes I'm aware he had the issue prior but like Hewett, he's now got a collection of people managing his injury who have hardly covered themselves in glory recently.

Allen not being able to back up his 1 healthy season last year and now has another half year wiped out as our captain. What does that do to his development, giving he's constantly stopping and starting? Can't string any footy together.

New recruit Flynn dying in 30 seconds. Flahn Rahn and Sheed haven't been sighted in an Eagles Guernsey in god knows how long.

Good lord what about Harry Edwards. #whatevenistheppointinpersisting.

I wonder if the clubs thinks we're still unlucky and we'll randomly turn the corner. 2024 looks ominous already.

Puke’s fault for not ripping up MRP when he started

Look, we weren't gonna go anywhere this year anyway and we know Oscar is best 22 (obv) so it's another chance for a youngster to grab their opportunity.

Oscar will be back

This is not why people on this board are pissed, its the clown-like way the club is treating our players and their injuries. These injuries damage a player and possibly do permanent damage through added scar tissue etc which can reduce their career.

And its a constant ongoing thing that has been happening for years - mis-diagnosis of injuries, players not being treated properly, players coming back and playing before they are ready due to lack of numbers or some stupid need to win a game that wont matter at all etc.

And its on going. There is no reason we cannot expect it top keep happening to the current and future players. So if when we get our shit together and start being competitive, will this trend keep happening? Rushing players back when they are not ready?

Year after year we fail spectacularly to get our players on the park. The club continues to be a laughing stock on and off the field.

Might think about putting down for membership after the bye. Could be a cake walk into seated membership by 2025 2 years of not even being able to put a WAFL standard side on the park is going to do some serious long term damage to the brand.

Was it ever said why Allen didn't play against the Crows? All I see is that they 'rested' him..we are a shambles of a club. Rushing underprepared players back in a season we're gonna win THREE GAMES in...we ain't contending for finals..so what the hell is all this frantically rushing people back for?! They learned nothing from last year with how they brought players back.

yeah its an issue and really would you want to be drafted to the eagles seeing that most likely you will spend your time in rehab recovering from injury?

oh well s**t happens

Perhaps it's on the player ?? maybe he has captain wanted to lead and though his knee was okay ??

frustrating

I gather there are at least a few here who travel east to west regularly. Do a 10km run and a weight session and see how you recover nominally. Then do the same thing and hop on a plane 2 hours later followed by a 4 hour flight and see how you feel in comparison not only the next day but 3,5,7 days later.

The curse will genuinely never be lifted. The higher level the league becomes with less rotations means travel will not only stay at least at this level of issue now or will become worse.

Knee issues, gastro and you tell everyone you are right to go? End up more seriously injured and liable to miss months.

Luke Shuey areas.

Do our medical and fitness staff have zero say on player availability? A huge part of their job is to protect players from themselves as they are always going to say they can push through.

I think we need to lead the change on this. Fly over east and play three games in Melbourne over three weekends (ie just over two weeks away). Cut out two return flights that we currently make.

Combine this with travel to one of the other states. Play Brisbane and then Gold Coast away. Cut out another return flight.

Now we have 7 return flights a year instead of 10. Hell, do the same for another block of 2 games in Melbourne and we have 6 return flights instead of 10.

Does the claim that our injuries stem from the hardness of our training ground actually carry any truth to it or is it simply we have injuries so it must be the training facility?

Edit: had posted this in another thread but thought it was a better question for in here.

Correlation and causation and all that.. We've had the ground investigated and they perform hardness checks. It has been a particularly hot, dry Summer which Pyke said might have amplified the hardness this preseason due to watering restrictions.

What I'm not hearing any investigation into is the surface inside the big shed.

I have often thought we should have a proper base in Melbourne for rehab and training that would facilitate such a strategy. Got cash use it.

So any idea of what the investigation and hardness checks showed on the outside grounds? Is the ground actually considered hard?

It’s been a particularly hot and dry summer so I would agree with that but our injury crisis goes back further than just this pre season.

Players and coaches don't want this though because it takes them away from family and other clubs don't have to do it. They want to have their cake and eat it too
