Collingwood’s umpiring tonight was more entertaining than sad to me. Why? Because this simply isn’t a common occurrence for them. For one, it’s the first time they lost the differential this year. Also, remember how the free kick count was 23 to 8 Collingwood’s way in their preseason game against us? That’s a worse differential than tonight, so did their supporters get offended by it? Doubt it. Don’t know if they even noticed it.

Not to mention that they only had one negative differential year since 2015 (in 2021). On top of all that, they’re still above us in free kick differential for the year without even including their preseason game against us. They’ll be fine.

Naicos has received serious attention twice in his career … McGuiness and Seb Ross & friends tonight. He has been absolutely woeful both games. He’s a gun, but we may need to hold the GOAT discussion for when he proves he can play well when he’s not in a dominant team without an opponent anywhere near him.

It’s ok to not be tough … problem is he’s genuinely timid when there’s a red hot ball to be won.

Don’t be fooled by his ‘contested possessions’ … when he wins a ground ball outside the main contest - whether he’s got an opponent or he’s on his own - this is counted as a contested ball.

Collingwood of 2023 resembles the Doggies of 2016.
Favoured by the umpires throughout the H&A season and finals.
Remember how the Doggies would throw the ball backwards over the top, with a fake reverse handball, and not be penalised for it.
Just relieved, more than anything else, that the Pies have been exposed as frauds.
