Wonder if we would nibble at Jez McLennan for another good user off half back in the MSD.

Very good for SA against the Vics. Injury ruined his time on the GC if I remember correctly.

You do know there is a difference between flat out refusing to put effort in to go at a contest and just not being good enough to nail defense ?
Parish tries. Defense is just not his thing. He does not actually dog a contest. I am not in the Parish fan club and have been as critical as nearly anyone on him but I have never seen him actually dog a contest and not go hard when he has had to.
There are standards and there are standards.

What rubbish. Talk about moving goalposts.

Merrett was trying. Parish, last night, was absolutely not.

It’s not a coincidence the two blokes we dropped last week were the two youngest.

When you look at the turning moments of a club like Melbourne. The wheel seemed to turn when they started bringing in leaders like Daniel Cross. Might only be a year or so but they were in a level enviroemt and leaders in there own rights. We seem to want to bring in gap fillers and not exactly the right people

Goldy’s not a “right person?” couldn’t think of too many more rucks with his record of professionalism and Success.

Think Competence is a huge part of leadership. To be an effective leader you need to be able to lead by example.

So you need to find a player from a successful team who’s past his usefulness to them due to them no longer being competitive.

Clubs you’d target would be Geelong/Sydney/Melbourne/Collingwood but all of them are still in the mix due to father sons/academy pics or smart talent recycling.

So the next tier of guy to get is someone who was a star on good team who’s lack of success wasn’t their fault.

Goldy and Merrett are as good as any people available in this scenario.

Let’s go and get Caleb Daniel won’t cost much and means Nic Martin can move back upfield

You do not know football if you do not know what dogging a contest is. Simple. It is not moving the goal posts.
Parish has not dogged a contest. Tsatas did. More than once. Totally different to ****ing up defense. If you do not know that then more fool you !
And like I keep saying. You are so biased against Scott it is not funny. Scott could play a kindergarten kid and he would be too old.
Fact is you are yet to prove Scott does not play young blokes. I have outlined the defense. You have come up with donuts.

Moreso where they’re at than games played - he’s only had the one injury (knee?) since being on the list, hasn’t he?
He was out for 4 months and did not play in the VFL until round 11 (AFL R13). 4th of June. He was also out for 4 months of his top age under 18 year. He had no chance of playing the same number of games. The fitness base is not even close to being the same. That is pretty basic stuff.

Height helps but we aren't that short anymore particularly around the ball where it's long been an issue. Duursma, Perkins and Kelly/Martin are all in that 6'1" - 6'2" range, Durham isn't much shorter, Setterfield is closer to 6'3". Tstatas is another one in the range when he plays. Then you have Langford and Stringer in addition to the talls we play.

Conversely the only shorter guys we have in the midfield now are Parish, Merrett and one of Caldwell or Hobbs. Shiel hasn't played yet and McGrath is behind the ball mostly.

IMO If we can't start outmarking opponents 1 one 1 with that personnel, there's a deeper issue at play.

Yep and there where plenty here that where against it because they thought he was a spud.

Think there were just as many people that wanted him and said that he filled a real need.
Others didn't want him due to him being inconsistent.

Going to take alot more than the next two offseasons to fully get us right but I would do this in the offseason coming up.

Retire: Heppell and Goldstein - Offer Goldstein a ruck coaching job.

Trade: Shiel to St Kilda for pick #57 - They were interested last offseason. Give him a fresh start.

Delist: Weideman, Baldwin and Wanganeen - One is useless and the others can't be trusted to get their bodies right and we need the roster spaces.

Re-Sign: Perkins and McGrath (Three years) Caldwell, Cox, Jones, Hayes and Setterfield (two years) Hind, Davey, Davey Jr, Guelfi, Kelly, Stringer, Menzie, Hunter and Visantini (one year) - Some of these are for the future and some are to provide good depth in the VFL and if injuries occur.

Upgrade: Menzie - More about not using a late pick on a two year contract in the draft.

Free Agent Signing: Isaac Cummings from GWS - Gut Running machine with elite disposal and pace. Can play either off half back or on a wing and pushes Martin back up the ground.

Draft: Use Picks #7, #27 and 57 and then two picks in the Rookie Draft - Would like to see us nab Sam Lalor with our first pick as a genuine defensive midfielder who likes the physical stuff. The other four picks we will need to pick up a ruck man best three hard running competitors available

Best 22

FB: McGrath McKay Ridley

CHB: Redman Reid Cummings

C: Martin Merrett Duursma

CHF: Perkins Jones Gresham

FF: Langford Wright Davey Jr

R: Draper Durham Parish

IC: Cox Caldwell Stringer Tsatas

Sub: Hobbs

First up: Caddy, Setterfield, Hayes and Bryan

I'd be 100% looking at Bailey Dale from Bulldogs and maybe Caleb Daniel too. We have too many poor kicks in our back half and they would open the game up a lot for us.

Yep we should be right into Cummings as a free agent.

Is Will Hayward any chance to come to Victoria instead of SA if he leaves? I'd consider cashing in on Hobbs and sign Will or another HF, Ainsworth?, playing inside mids in the forward line isn't helping us, and I'm not sure we have the space for Hobbs when you consider our other options, and fwiw I like Hobbs, just our balance isn't what it needs to be.

Adding a couple guys like Hayward and Cummings make the team look better balanced on paper

Parish has dogged contests. Seen him pull out plenty, and you could argue he dishes out handballs every game that are not to the benefit of our team but to avoid the physical pressure coming his way. He isn’t alone though.

Honestly let them have him. Not worth 3 years. I’d happily let him walk out the door.
Think our forward line works better if it’s wright Langford and then 2 spots for jones and caddy.
