One thing I do worry about is whether or not Durdin and Owies know they can get away with half-arsed efforts as nobody can replace them right now.
They are both trying their hearts out. Experience and capabilities are what is in question, imo.
Durds can be a player. Owies is a placeholder.

Cripps, Pitto, Walsh, Hewett and Kennedy in the middle created enough opportunities for us to win the game but the wings were soundly beaten - Acres has credits in the bank but Ollie does not - so it might be time to get Cotts onto a wing as good things seem to happen when he gets the ball. Carroll tried hard but Cerra is a big upgrade.

Weitering completely subdued Hawkins but Young and Kemp couldn’t contain their opponents which is why we need Gov and Marchy. Williams was very poor as he has been all year so much so I’d say his spot would be at risk if Saad wasn’t injured. Boyd, Cowan and Newy were serviceable.

McKay was wasteful but tried his arse off as opposed to Charlie who needs to go and have a look at how hard Cameron works.
The chasm in the lack of class up forward was there for all to see today not just when compared to the opposition but also the difference between Elijah and the rest of our small forwards. We desperately miss Martin.

It was a really high quality game. All credit to the Cats. They are so well organised and disciplined, relying on system as opposed to individual brilliance like us. Zuthrie step up to cover the loss of Stewart. Bowes and Bruhn held the fort when Danger went off. That said if we can get some players back and some improvement I think we can beat them.

There’s too much focus on McKay and Curnow IMO. If we go to them 50 times and they kick 5 goals, that’s a conversion of 10%. The measure of success has to be goals as % of entries.
We miss Jack Martin as that other target.

And Silvagni who is great at 2nd and 3rd efforts and keeping the ball in the forward zone.

I’m glad Voss has harped on in his press conference about defensive pressure. That’s three games in a row where it feels like every time the opposition goes forward they score goals. The entries teams are getting against us are way too straightforward, and it’s why they’re not missing their shots on goal.

Kudos to the team for trying to hang in there.

Two days less to prepare for the Pies worries me. But hopefully the boys can use the loss to refocus. And playing at the G rather than coming off a Marvel game should assist in ensuring the players aren’t as sore.

We must win on Friday night.

It certainly did. We got junk time goals when the game was done. Made it look closer than it was
it was close all day. anything more than 13pts the way the game went wouldn't have been right.

When you're 8pts behind with 3 min to go they are no junk goals.

Voss never says anything about our forward entries.

This is obviously his plan and it's a woeful one.

Utterly pathetic how we were so easy to defend against.

I'm sure their coaching team told their players put pressure on them, they will turn it over easily and we'll hit them on the counter attack.

Worked a treat.

Isn’t it fair to say that with Motlop, Cerra, Fogarty, MCG, Marchy, Cuners, Fantasia, Saad, Martin all unavailable (wouldn’t all be picked) it means we have to play guys who are unreliable (Carroll, Kemp, Durdin, Young, Cowan) and against a group of good sides the unreliable players will underperform often enough for us to not win them all?

Against the best 6-8 sides with these injuries forcing these players to play it is to be expected we lose about half.

I expect the win loss to continue through the next few.

Injuries are making or breaking the whole season.

Unsure if it has been mentioned yet but we have been the more accurate side in front of goal in only 2 of 7 games this year. One of those times against North where we were effectively walking it in with Charlie and Harry taking shots from within 15m of goal.

I honestly believe if Durdin kicks that set shot we run away with the game. You could see the boys collectively drop their heads. An unforgivable miss.

Our conversion rate obviously cost us the game against Adelaide. It arguably cost us today and will probably cost us again at some point. Great sides know how to put away chances and don’t need to work so hard for scores and leads.

yeah he can blame our defence overall but with the outs we've got they cant expect miracles.

However an area where we could improve is in how we attack - need to become a lot better - Cats showed us up big time - we put the effort and got little return and they played smarter and got better returns.

Teams know our weakness is in how we attack.

They get numbers around charlie and slingshot it away from the d50.

This puts enormous pressure on our defenders with the oppo coming in really quickly with half of our team out of position

The most frustrating game I have watched in years. Not just because the umps are so mind boggling shit, but because we do just so many dumb, dumb things. Blind kicks forward, blind handballs in D50, kicking to 2 v 1 down the line... And of course we couldn't buy a bloody set shot. Just unbelievably infuriating.

Those are the 1-2% things that Geelong do better, and that's why they won. The thing that makes it suck is that we should be able to do it too, but we don't. It's not like we lack talent because we have heaps of it. We lack polish, and that's got to come with coaching and drills. Voss has to get this mob to take the next step or we'll fall short.
