Random question, are athletes allowed to take any normally banned substances when recovering from injury, or is it the same 24/7 regardless?

Edit: Now I think about it, Warnie was done for taking a diuretic coming back from a shoulder reconstruction trying to make the world cup. Mum's diet pills i.e. also used as a masking agent for steriods.

I just don't know with two years out of the game whether they will give him some VFL time first up and whether, if the season starts early again, he will be maybe a rd 2 or 3.

Oh yeah from that perspective you're not wrong. I think he'll be playing footy by then - be it VFL or AFL. Poor Tom.

Same rules apply. Guys on injury lists can still get tested.

Can players get done if they were delisted, took PED’s to get jacked and then got drafted in the mid season draft?

That 30kg of muscle mass over summer was all natural, you SOB.

we still have joyce as kpd depth.

koen sanchez was a small forward many considered unlucky to get drafted last year. wouldnt mind having a look for small forward depth considering linc's knee and charlie looks like hes playing banged up every week.
I read on the draft board that the best he has done this year is a spot in the WAFL Reserves.

Yep, my thinking was along the lines of current depth players moving out so the list spot opens up anyway. It may happen either in the form of delistings or retirements or players choosing to leave. Rather than replacing them with late draft picks (after all our first/second round picks get used up for points), I'm thinking we could get 4 mature agers now who have potential.
I think I'm slowly coming around to the idea of taking more than two players, provided the coaches have identified enough players they like, they're plugging list holes and only two of them at most will be here longer than 6 months.

May as well go with Hagan, they're at the same club but Hagan plays seniors.

He did work with Zane in Tassie right? Glad things are going well for him.
Against each other - Cornelius's Glenorchy team beat Littlejohn's team in a grand final, and then Zane left to join us. They're working together now at Box Hill.

I’d be happy to put 2 of our VFL top ups on the rookie list for 6 months. Maybe even 1 of our of age academy kids.

But they have to show something to earn an extension beyond the end of the season.

Do you think there are any speedy wingman, small forward types in QAFL?

After learning how players can nominate 6 months or 18 months for MSD - I'm not keen on getting someone interstate unless we see them as 18 month potential. Szekely for 18 months is a good gamble.

But for 6 months, I'd like to add as much pace as possible. If QAFL that removes the challenge of relocation and they might be willing to gamble a 6 month stint to show what they've got.

I’ve no idea about mature age prospects.

I do read the MSD thread on the draft page, so same as everyone else here.

I do have a few philosophical views about the potential MSD talent pool. After the first couple of MSD’s most of the quality mature age prospects have been picked, so the early picks now are the late developers from last year’s U18’s, and there’s probably only 2 or 3 19 year olds who are genuine chances to stick.

For small forward, I think we probably have the man in our VFL team already, Ben Thomas.

As for speedy wingers, I read this article from last year on who coaches think is the fastest player in their side:

Comparing these to who has been in the best on ground lists in recent QAFL games, a couple of players stand out.

One is Bailey Brown from Labrador. In a season preview he was nominated by his coach as the young gun to watch out for, described as "a winger who runs non-stop, plays both sides of his body and can hit the scoreboard".

Another is Sherwood captain Will Fletcher, who used to play for our VFL team. While he seems to play as an inside midfielder rather than a winger, it's worth noting he's won four consecutive best and fairests and has been in the QAFL team of the season in both 2022 and 2033.

Not in the speediest list, Labrador's other winger Aiden Fyfe seems to be doing well too lately. He was in the Suns academy but didn't get drafted. Seems to be more of the pinpoint kicking type than the speedy type.

Disclaimer: I don't follow the QAFL at all so I'm relying entirely on what I read, therefore drafting any of these players might be a laughable idea to those who have actually watched them play.

I think this is a good way for us to invest back into QAFL as well. Just grab the promising ones in 6 month contract and see what they've got. Great way to promote our recruiting drive too in the state.

It'll look very similar to how our Women's team was built with Dakota and few others coming from QAFLW.

Unsure if QAFL teams and fans will view it that way though, as we're pinching their players halfway through their season, including their finals series.
