Dunno but it was an honest question. Last year he said he’d be following us closely as his second team. Seemed as genuinely gutted at what we’ve produced as any actual North supporter.
Folding is an overreaction because he's a bit unhappy.

I guess it takes all kind of weirdos to make the world go around.

A question like that isn’t so weird. We’re a small club that will possibly be 0-23, we don’t resemble an AFL organisation and it’s happened to others.

If North folded as a club I'd just stop following footy, tbh.

It's not the 80s anymore. We aren't beholden to suburban footy and whatever sport is broadcast on our 3 channels.

I guess I'd watch some neutral games at the pub or with friends, but the AFL mostly interests me in the context of how it affects North lol; who we can beat, where we will place, who we will draft/trade etc. Without North, I'd just stick with basketball.

Not gonna fold though.

So you really believe we could fold. NOT HAPPENING.

We always could. We came awfully close, and that was back when the teams we fielded had something to hang their hat on. Put it this way, nobody fought so hard in 2007 to be the rabble that we are now.

The difference isthat we are so much better off the field now than back in the y. I am 55 years old we will talk again about it in 125 more years.

Walking up to someone telling their team is going to fold is weird. And asking what team they're going to automatically pick up adds to the oddness.

Coming from a "franchise " supporter, I shouldn't really be surprised.

That’s the disappointing thing for me. We’re so much better off the field but good grief, the people who were responsible for that are being let down now.

Normally I’d breathe fire at a Cr0wbot 🍷 for such a question, but it was a genuine concern thing from a guy in our corner. So I couldn’t make any “empty franchise” comments cos he likes us.

Just an interesting ‘outside-looking-in’ question. Maybe some people are thinking the same thing.

Good God, we're getting patted on the head now..."I like you guys"...

Straight to the "Rock Bottom" thread, Spud.....

So you are comparing us to Fitzroy who couldn’t pay its players, and was heavily into debt, and insolvent? That was the fundamental reason they merged. But NMFC have NO debt, and pay their bills including staff and players easily. Pretty naive comment to be honest, with no basis whatsoever

We almost moved to the Gold Coast (saved by the efforts of those whose hard work is currently being dismantled).

Hawthorn, Melbourne, Dogs, Saints, Port have all been in relatively recent trouble.

They were throwing tarps over footy park in 2012.

Where are we travelling now to play “home” games to make our ledger look reasonable? Especially with this garbage style of football nobody wants to see.

I think you’re the one being naive.

I find people broach the subject of North Melbourne with me like some sort of taboo topic….

I honestly haven’t had any issues with other fans over the years. Usually it’s been full-on respect firstly because of our dominance in the 90’s, and then because of our refusal to die in the 00’s/10’s.

What I get now seems to be pity with a hint of worry. I don’t get friendly ribbings or the classic “ship ‘em off to Tassie” taunts that people might get. It seems to be honest respect and concern for a true football club.

If I put a shoe on the other foot, if I were a bit older, I might’ve had a healthy dislike and rivalry for Fitzroy but when push came to shove I wouldn’t have wished their club gone. I know there are many supposed ‘footy fans’ that would, but that’s not my experience.

I get patronising, slightly baseless "oh you guys are on the right path" between those who just laugh.

Yeah I get nothing much anymore, just a raising of the eyebrows, grim pursed lips and a nod as if to acknowledge the size of the job ahead to fix this footy club.

We’ll hopefully turn it around soon. And if we do, I’ll remember the goodwill & class shown by fans of other clubs.

There's online trolls, but I suspect very few would be that disrespectful to your face.

We do have a ****ing long road ahead, but I'm here for it. Any time someone queries my footy club it just steels the resolve even more.

I would still follow the game cause i just love it so much. I wouldn't follow any team probably just players from a variety of teams.

It’s crap compared to 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years and 37 years ago

It’s a cross between basketball and Gaelic football and a 800m running race
