If Walker plays our club has lost the plot

I know for a fact ( a truthful fact not bigfooty.com fact ) that walker dislocated his collarbone before the game at the gabba and needed a cortisone injection to get through the game. He is also carrying a rotator cuff injury in the other shoulder that will need surgery to be fully fit.

Why is he still playing? He should have the surgery and be put on ice ( not west coast ice ) until pre season 2008.

The Roos did it last year with Simpson Harvey and Grant and they are now sitting pretty in 2nd place. They were also rewarded with Hansen for closing up shop early.

If Walker plays then I'm wrong about one thing - we aren't tanking - but I wish we were

I know for a fact.......not a BF fact, but the sort you get from studying in tertiary institutions ;)........that if Walker "dislocated" his collar bone, whether it be from the scapula (i.e. A-C joint) or the sternum (far less likely), that a simple anti-inflammatory injection would have done SFA to help him play.
He wouldn't have been able to lift his arm overhead, as this is the function of your collar bone (assists full elevatiopn of the arm) and everytime he got tackled or bumped he would have been in agony - injection or not.
Cortisone mops up inflammation - doesn't numb pain associated with torn ligaments as is required for a dislocated joint.

He may have damaged the A-C joint and partially (small tear of ligs) subluxed the joint - big difference.

Agree that if he plays we are not tanking, and also agree that I would prefer that he didn't play, and that if he requires surgery then he do it now.

If he goes in for surgery in October and it delays his pre-season I will be writing to the club.

More evidence of mis-managament AWG?;)

Pretty sad state of affairs if we are playing broken men when there is no need. If we were going into the finals I for one (inreasonably yes) would hope they play with broken ribs, (you dont run with ribs), but our position does not warrant this type of sacrifice.

He did sublux the A-C joint I just didn't know how to bloody spell it:). I didn't think a person from them medical field would be listening. If you watched the game he had both shoulders strapped.

I'll make sure I have my 2nd year anatomy text next to me next time I log on. Do you do consultations over the net cos my throat is killing me?

It's where most people get the teams that they post on bigfooty on a Thursday. I still don't see what you meant about Footy Show listed teams being more reliable than those found elsewhere?
I never said it was more reliable than any other particular place, I just said its reliable, not bothering to list either SEN or afl.com.au.

The footy show shows the team picked on the Thursday night.

And shall tell us if Walker is in or not, hense, the purpose of this thread. You don't decide a dislocated shoulder overnight.

He is in according to the teams supplied by Carlton and the AFL. The footy show has nothing new to offer on the subject. They just repeat the official teams.

Has done the impossible!! you cant dislocate a collarbone, only the shoulder from the collarbone. Its kinda like dislocating a rib:rolleyes:

A couple of straight Johnnie Walkers should fix that.

The "collarbone", or clavicle, contributes to two joints, neither of which is the shoulder.

The S/C joint, or sternoclavicular joint, and the A/C joint, or acromioclavicular joint. Either of those can be dislocated, but the A/C is the more common.

This bewilders me as well. Why not have surgery now if he will require it after the season? It will make sure it doesn't hamper his off-season too much

If he has only subluxed the joint he won't have surgery.

I will be VERY pissed off though if he has surgery the week after the season ends.
VERY PISSED OFF!

Yeah ditto.

Just that Ratten said he might require surgery yet he is back in the team leaves me flabbergasted.

I stuffed up my rotator cuff last year. Wasn't aloud to play sport for 2 months. If walker has damaged his rotator cuff he should not be playing. it just makes it worse.

I also did mine and didn't regain full movement for ten weeks (No proper rehab).

Funny thing was it was my first game out of retirement as a soccer goalkeeper. Only filled in for a pre-season game because my mate was coach :)

You may be right about his injury. However I saw him walking around at the MCG last week and he didn't seem to be favouring his shoulder or arm at all. I know this is only walking but he looked very free. Having said this cannot see any great reason to have him back even if the injury is only moderatly bad.

He still looked very sore in the Port game:thumbsdown:

I just can't see the point. Why are we playing him? It has nothing to do with tanking. If he needs surgery then send him away to get right for next season. We aren't a team trying to nurse our players through a final series to win a flag...or are we?:D

Agree Druss, I don't see the value in playing Tex at this stage. Push Grigg intot he middle and lets see Flint or Austin get a run in the backline.
