I don't think Cam will be traded ever. He's a symbol of players staying at Brisbane after a period of them not. Cam does need to be put in the VFL for a stint though, but this won't happen, as who comes in to replace him?

This is like the Berry on the wing debate. He doesn't continuously get games based on form; he gets games because he's the only one we have that plays that position well (Sharp isn't there yet but could own that position if given a decent stint of games in the starting 18). If Gardiner was still available, you'd play him at the moment over Rayner every day of the week in the pseudo 3rd/4th tall spot, but he's not around.

Come 2025, the team looks a lot different with Coleman, Gardiner, Doodee, both Ashcroft's and Marshall in the team. But until then, you've got to make a team with what you have.

Ryan wasn't brought in as a quality KPF, otherwise we would've had to stump up more than a second round pick and more money for him.

I think it's being overstated how good a player McStay was. He was a key forward that never kicked more than 28 goals in a season and averaged 1.4 contested marks per game last year. Our issues are much bigger than what McStay would supposedly bring to our side.
McStay ventured up the ground quite often. He regularly took strong contested marks to give us a long kicking option out of our backline. I think his reliability in the air was an asset that we've not been able to cover yet.

To me, we look absolutely stagnant around stoppages. I am not sure if Bailey or Wilmot could go into the midfield mix (along with Ashcroft when) for some stints? I'd be very interested in us looking to inject some pace through one of our MSD picks, and hope that exposure to a full-time professional environment might lead to some deficiencies being ironed out (skills or aerobic capacity for example). McCluggage, Neale, Berry and co being left behind when there is speed on the ball is something we need to address if we are to challenge again next year.

ESPN links us with Will McLachlan, Noah Howes and Kyle Dunkley. I think McLachlan will be gone before our first pick. Howes will probably be there, and he's young and talented. Personally I'd prefer Oskar Smartt because I'm a sucker for a manic pressure player, but it's possible the club feels Howes is the more talented player.

With this season just about done and dusted re finals I think we should be going with high upside/potential not play a good role/depth players in the MSD, look for players with pace to burn/x factor.. I am still very keen on Frank Szekely.

Unlikely to pay off but we have nothing to lose if we give 2-3 players 6 month stints to show what they have got.

Not sure if Marshall starts as a best 22 player. I believe he’s probably best suited to a wing role, to start his career, and he’ll be competing for that bench wing position.

Fair. Just pointing out that there could be a decent amount of change with recruits (Doodee + probably an unknown/anyone worth keeping from the MSD) getting back in shape and others coming back from injury.

Go after Chad Warner. Knocked back an offer from Sydney so he’s obviously open to a move, whether that be home to WA or somewhere else remains to be seen. Cracker of a player and gives it everything, something we need.

Wonder if there is also any truth to Lachie wanting to go back to Perth as soon as next year. I’d suspect if he wants to win a flag that he may think Freo is a lot closer than we are which I guess you could see some making such an argument.

This will get a lot of vitriol I'm sure but...if he does and Freo want him and are willing to pay up for him - entertain it. He is now 31 and is showing a lot of signs of being beat up, could be a lot of short term pain for more long term gain.

I wouldn't say he's rejected an offer. All recent reports say he's put talks on hold.

Very different from knocking back an offer.

Had a great game on the weekend with the most (?) metres gained in his career. If we think we can win it next year, which we should given the list profile, he’d still be an important part of the tilt unless a mid 20’s aged, quality midfielder was miraculously able to materialise as part of the deal.

The rate at which Warner is progressing this season, they might trade Logan McDonald or even Captain Mills to keep him.

Heeney, Mills, Parker used to be the buzz but the torch has well n truly passed over to Heeney, Gulden, Warner.

I'd trade Cam Rayner for Chad Warner... 🤣:(

See I don't disagree, but while Szekely undoubtedly has pace and X-factor, he's almost 25, he's about to enter his peak years and so probably doesn't have that much more upside than what we see now. It's 18 year olds like Smartt and Howes who have the most potential.

Why would they want him? They have Serong, Brayshaw and Young as their midfield core for the future with rotational options already. Doesn't make sense for their timeframe at all.

I think they really weren't that interested in 2021 and that is part of the reason why ultimately Lachie didn't make a trade reuqest.

Hmmmm.....

I think we would regret him leaving if it happened, Charlie is turning 30 soon but could have 3-4 very good years left in him, I look at it as similar to Eddie Betts who in his first year going from the Blues to Crows turned 28 and had 6 very good years as a Crow.

You don't get your hands on too many Charlie Cameron level talents, looking at their career stats Charlie and Eddie have very similar stats, both averaging 1.8 goals and 3.0 tackles per game over their careers.

From the outside looking in and going back to the U.S trip, Cam and Charlie are the 2 that seem most affected.
Both having very underwhelming years.
If it come to a choice between the 2 who would we least like to lose?

It is so mournful that I am looking forward to the mid season draft.
