He staying …………. Hopefully
Yeah I'd be very very surprised if he left.

I can see the sticking point being the length of the deal as Geelong on principle don't tend to offer long contracts. A sound policy.

I expect the loyalty to go both ways. Club should offer a little over, I think, in recognition of what he's done for them on a lower salary for the past few years. Tyson should accept a bit of a shorter deal than what others might offer based on the faith the cats have put in him and belief that he still has potential for improvement in the next stage of his career.

It reeks of very poor cap management if we cannot match 800k, which is fair enough value for him in the current market. We've lost players and should be planning on multiple big-time retirements coming up. I'd love to know where the money is being sucked up.
Well, I don't know if I believe it but the poster saying we're into Oliver is one of the more consistent ITKs on all BF

Oh I agree, but if we pick up two gun kids in 5 years nobody will remember that part anyway.

Still doubt it happens that way regardless. If he goes, we have a plan, and it could very well be Smith this year and LDU next year.

In 5 years stengle will still be playing though. And if we get end of first round comp that gets pushed back to a pick in the 20s, no one can say that’s value for him. At his age and talent he’s someone we should be prioritising to keep.

The money should be no barrier when the cap is increasing and we have no players signed that far in advance anyway. $600k will almost be median wage in 4 years. We can chase someone like smith and keep Stengle no problem.

If he goes, I imagine it will be more about not liking Geelong the city rather than Geelong the club (which there’s nothing we can do about). But if it’s money related and we’re refusing more than $600k as reported, I’d be a bit annoyed.

Unless we plan on.... taking an albatross contract

It would make sense for us. Oliver is only 26, he'll be 27 in a couple months. Though I do feel our environment is not the right one for him. We are very hands-off, trust the player to do their own work. I get the impression Oliver needs to be micromanaged. I would be happy to have him, worth the punt.

‘PICK 3s DON’T TAG’: ROO TIPPED TO DEPART ARDEN STREET

Out-of-favour North Melbourne midfielder Will Phillips is expected to be at a rival club next season.

The off-contract 22-year-old has managed just three senior games this year thus far. He has just 35 AFL matches to his name since being drafted at No. 3 overall in the 2020 national draft.

“I don’t think Will Phillips will be at North Melbourne next year,” Herald Sun journalist Sam Landsberger told Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle.

Phillips is out of contract at the end of the year but hasn't really shown anything in his four seasons. We may be able to get him cheap, though I don't like trading for blokes purely based on their draft position. Is he just a poor man's Bruhn?

Bit surprised over the casual attitudes of some regarding Stengle possibly leaving.

I’d personally be gutted. He’s one of our best players and would hurt the team massively if he goes.
Mannagh won’t just come in and replace him. No one will.
Stengle is all class, a rare talent and the club would be mad to let him go. You do everything you can to keep your best players.
Jez is on a mill ffs and has been utterly useless as of late.
Pay Tyson what he wants and be done with it.
Agreed on the talent side and the bloke walked in and helped us win a flag - 50 goals from a small forward on under 300k... yes please.

And now its his turn to get paid and you cant begrudge him that. This is probably his one shot at getting fat money.
650 from us is not average $$ - and im sure hes getting more elsewhere.

I dont think you just replace a 50 goal a year small forward - and Mannagh is an unknown at the top level but seemingly an option it can happen. Highly unlikely that whoever replaces him goes for 50 but if we get 30 from someone and Pick 14... it softens the blow.

Id rather he stay as he works in our world but ultimately you can't force someone to like being there.

I'd take him on the rookie list or similar where there's nothing to lose. At his age and with some junior pedigree, there's a chance he turns into a contributor which would be great.

But haven't seen much to convince me he will, granted i don't watch many North games. He just doesn't seem very damaging. Going at a handball to kick ratio of 3:1 this year. You need to get big numbers to be of use if you're doing that.

We were fine when Gaz left and we will be fine if Stengles leaves

One player doesn’t make the club
Sure we will be fine and maybe better culture wise for being a meritocracy. Stengle not in the same category as Gaz IMO.

The cost of losing stars is high.
I still reckon Gazza staying would have added 2 more flags. Same as Diesel would have added one or two.

For the same reason adding one bonefide impact mid could change our fortunes really fast. (Warner alongside Holmes...oh my dreams!!!)

Smith being extremely under rated here. Showed more than holmes at the same age for a start. Will walk straight into our midfield adding explosiveness and pace. There are reasons that other clubs with better midfields than ours are chasing him.
Genuine questions. Do post ACL players come back as explosive or mobile? (Menzel PTSD)

I have very little medical training Vdubs but iMO its a full 18 months before the full power comes back thru the joint and limb - the 9 months to get over the injury and another 9 to build back.

See it in the NFL all the time when its 2 season post injury before they get back to close to themselves.

Hence my concerns with Smith... and the off field.... in just very cautious

Kane putting Tyson in the gun to be loyal to Geelong.

He owes us nothing all players need to look out for their own careers as it’s a very short span that you can earn top dollars.

Having said all that you would hope those around him would advise him to consider the best environment for both his on and off field needs.

I think he will stay FWIW

It's kind of reassuring Tyson has Eddie's wife Anna Scullie representing him as you know whatever path he takes will heavily consider what will best support him as a person which is bigger than footy, I guess. If he were to take a better deal elsewhere that meets his needs, I see it as an opportunity for other chess pieces to be moved around the board which may be to the benefit of other players and the club. For example, a midfielder in with Cam Guth provided with longevity as a versatile half back.

Yes they do. Menzel did 4 knees. Knee surgery has come a very long way over the last decade.

Pertracca
Robbie Gray
Sicily
Cam Raynor

All look explosive post surgery. Not guaranteed by I would say very likely.
