Personally i don't think it does, why not just let the home team choose which way they want to start?

i reckon it does make a diff. whoever wins tends to pick with the wind to get a good head start in the game. chances are the wind doesnt blow the same exact fashion for three hours, so get in early and you might have it to your advantage when you switch ends as well.
Pavlich wins it almost every game, hasn't worked to well so far.

Barry Hall won the toss in the 05 GF and we won so that's good enough for me. Not sure who won it in 06 though..
haha, i'm not entirely sure there's skill involved with coin tossing at all...I don't think it really does but as a sidenote, Lloyd nearly always loses the coin toss. As a captain he has a long way to go

Well chris judds injuries coincided with him losing the tosses.
Don't know if that means anything. Maybe he just can't call it with the groin problem.

Doesn't make a difference...Johnno wins it all the time and just picks our cheer squad end first, especially if we're at the Dome.

It boosts team morale whereas losing the toss cuts team morale. Anytime a team has an impressive start you can put it down to the coin
During the "top up" years, winning the toss was like winning the game.
It makes a big difference to the game when there is a huge breeze favouring one end, eg the infamous Trent Cotchin kicking against the wind vs Port Adelaide in an EF, Quarter time score is 49 - 7.

Yes. I've seen plenty of windy games at Kardinia when the wind has stopped in the last quater or has done a 180 degree turn.
Win the toss with local knowledge and you can kick with the wind 3 of 4 quarters.
