Another was that first very soft holding free kick , again a valuable lesson

Yep, Walker learnt he wears the wrong jumper after watching Amiss cop 10 times worse every week down the other end.

That's going to be a tough lesson for him to action, but it won't stop those who have it in for him lambasting him for it.

He was probably our most damaging player with ball in hand bar Young. Rioli got one lucky goal from a port miss kick and one goal from a soft free. Walker was in our top 5 players in my opinion.

Spot on
It’s so infuriating

Actually thought Wagner was really good
Like Walker his first intent when he gets hold of the ball is to run and break it open

Can you even imagine how much better those guys lives are going to be if they are looking down the ground and seeing Bolton , Pickett , Amiss , Treacy , Sturt and Jackson absolutely running rings around the defenders and wondering which option to take

Delicious
🤤

Needs to focus on improving his 1v1 defence. The part I'm most excited about his is offensive potential. Hopefully we can see him break lines like Blakely.

He just needs to improve his strength which for a 197cm, 20-year-old is par for the course. I don't see a World (injury aside) in which he doesn't end up an elite key defender.

There was one entry there where the ball landed in Rioli ‘s lap who was standing alone inside a circle of about 6 of our defenders.

That’s team failure , not an individual

It was depressing how certain you felt that Rioli would kick all those set shots he got, each time he won a free or took a mark. And he duly did, every chance. Instead we have Sam Switkowski. A goal kicking butcher. 🙄

We have no small forwards like Rioli.
It’s insane how underrated he is, I think he’s an absolute gun and the ultimate match winner.

I want freo to have small forwards that are so clutch that they generate that sickening feeling in the stomach of opposition players and supporters every time they get even a sniff of a set shot at goal inside 35m. The type that make you walk out to the kitchen with a resigned sigh for another beer when they take a mark within range, because you just know for certain they aren’t missing. The type that make opposition coaches slam the table in the coaches box in frustration because they know well they are going to be punished.

Those types (Luke Breust was another one) suck the soul out of the opposition, both fans and teammates when you have players like that.

He really just needs to add a bit of strength to do that. In my opinion his one on one work is outstanding but he gets pushed off the ball when manning strong forwards at times. What I'm saying is basically semantics but effectively I'm agreeing wih you he needs to get better at 1v1's but saying his one on one work will be exceptional once he adds some muscle. In 2025 hopefully Cox and Pearce are at full fitness so we can use Draper on smaller quicker leading types at times. I really think Chapman to a wing and Draper into the best 22 is something that has to happen in 2025 .

Why is this so damn relatable

You mean someone like Kozzi ?

I’m not great with Dockers history but this trade period would have to be their most important surely?

They’ve done very well drafting so since 2019 so hopefully this is the icing on the cake 🤞

We have one, but he's 33 and declining.

He's only going to get better, amazing first proper season for him, showed plenty of class, dropped off towards the end but that is to be expected.

Assuming Pearce is back and Cox is still fit and available, where does he play in the side next season? Or does he go back to Peel to bide his time?

At the moment I feel the most obvious solution is for him to take on the Chapman's role of third/fourth defender and move Chapman to the wing. Alternatively though we may be back to a Cox/Pearce/Logue situation where you may have one of those playing as a swingman, dependent on the opposition; under that situation Cox seems the most likely, but it would be interesting if they used Draper instead as the swingman.

Another big preseason and body and strength, will make him even better.
A true gem in our midst.
I am not sure I see when ever Chappy has shown any himt of playing on the wing.I just don't see it.
A few years back , the coaching staff wanted to play Noddy as a wing man, he almost instantly broke down.Had a couple of years with injury, hopefully he is over all his problems. If Noddy stands up, I don't see a need to try Chapy out as a wing man.

I think Draper got his first season in ahead of schedule. Injuries aside, I'd assume he's playing at Peel next year.

Draper can play Cox's role of being a sweeper but that is all Cox can do. Draper is decent in traffic and is good below his knees. Cox on the other hand is a liability once he gets out of his role of floating around the backline taking marks.
If it's a choice between Cox and Draper then Draper is not without his chances.

Well, Cox was coming back from a horrible hammy injury. I have a feel he didn't have the clearest run in his preseason either. So with a good preseason hopefully he'll return to his original mobility.

Josh is quick enough to play on elite small forwards. I really like the idea of him playing a role more like Shane Parker back in the day in that he plays on smalls and talls.
