Any big forwards free agents in the following season ?
I think Darcy Fogarty is a restricted Free agent at the end of next year.
The problem if we can’t find a stopgap for at least next year is it puts an enormous amount of pressure on Eric (coming off the groin injury) and Logan (2nd year player), before even factoring in any injuries they may get during the year. We want another crack at it next year, which we don’t want derailed due to no forward depth.Any big forwards free agents in the following season ?

In a perfect world Joe hangs around for an extra year and then hangs ‘em up. If you believe what’s being reported that seems unlikely now, so I hope the club has a contingency even if it’s just for a year or two and is simply a stop gap.
We don’t have much in terms of draft/ trade capital, but what we do have is the ability to be an easy sell to someone who may be looking at the opportunity to play a role for a team in clear flag contention. They don’t have to be a star, but just someone who can be relied upon to compete each week.
Do we trust Henry and/or Ryan to do that at this stage? I dunno.
Which is why he's required to stay and hopefully sees that. The problem if we can’t find a stopgap for at least next year is it puts an enormous amount of pressure on Eric (coming off the groin injury) and Logan (2nd year player), before even factoring in any injuries they may get during the year. Midway through this year part of Daniher’s weekly routine became joining Lester, Zorko, Andrews and Josh Dunkley for a coffee at Total Fusion in Springfield. The conversation started with discussions about whether it might be time to start introducing youth. Then it turned to winning a flag.
I saw this on The Age footy feed I think. Speculating here but suggests senior player led, or at least input, into the change in selection philosophy. Strong leadership shown by the players and a new found flexibility by the coach and match committee.
Zorko said as much in his 3AW interview after the game yesterday:I read that differently - they were considering whether to write off this year and play the kids in preparation for next season. But they decided not to give up in this year and kept looking at how to improve this year's team.
Speaking to 3AW post-game, the 35-year-old described the plethora of emotions he was feeling after a 10-goal smoking of Sydney on the last Saturday in September.
“I’ll let you in on a little secret,” Zorko begun by saying.
“At Round 12 (when) we had the bye - myself, Joe (Daniher) and Ryan Lester sat down with Harris Andrews and we said: ‘Might be time we start playing the kids, we might have to turn to next year. ‘If that’s the case, it’s been fun.’
“But we came up with a real clear plan that day that we weren’t going to go down that path; there was so much football to go.
“Every week for the last 14 weeks, we’ve caught up as a group - we added Josh Dunkley to that frame… and we just talk through everything every week, we catch up for coffee. We really wanted to make a difference and impact this season.”

The issue of Joe departs is that it’ll actually take two players to fill his role and both still probably can’t do one job to the standard Joe does to both.
Of course we were going to face that issue at some point but I’m sure we still had 3-4 years to work that out so if it does happen, we’re on the back foot badly to find a solution with such limited options and resources to effect anything.
I guess it just shows how valuable he is which is why I’ve said for years that IDK why AA selectors and the talking heads have failed to see or appreciate what he does.
Mentally I'm fairly sure what Joe gave us this year was all he had in him. He spent almost the whole season on the ground , barely any interchange time.
Now that he's had the exhilaration of the win and gets some time to relax and reflect if he has decided time's up he can always change his mind or look at things differently.
The best thing for Joe would be for everybody and especially the press to just leave him alone and if he hasn't decided to retire well and good and if he has give him the time to weigh it up further.
I'm not into looking for a walk up replacement if he does go. Give it a year to see how we go with what we have , we can mix it up in lots of ways , and then try and get someone we know we really need if things aren't working out.
Joe was the only guy still in his footy gear at the after match function. Seemed to be enjoying himself.Joe is certainly a very unique individual. Rocking up at Fitzroy on his own while the boys came on the bus. Pretty clear he just went to bed after the game last night lol.

A decent article in the Herald Sun quoting Joe's dad - "He's that happy, how wont retire says dad" the article goes on quoting his father saying joe has the perfect work/life balance at the Lions. A young family and $1 million sitting on the table for 1 year - I somehow doubt he will retire this year but next year - yes.
The 2 players I noticed most devastated/emotional after the siren out on the ground were Prior and Dev, both were crying and visibly upset. Yes both were close and had good reason missing the team.
Schache. it's your time to prove the haters wrong. Reach out to the club...
More confident Joe plays in 25 after hearing his Dad talk this morning.
What did he say?
