You can have ANY player listed as a rookie for 3 years

If you wish to have rookies past the 3rd year they cannot have played anymore than 10 games

It becomes a 2 tier system
That's not what the rule says. The new rule says 4 years, plus a 5th if they haven't played 10 games. The old 3-year time limit has now disappeared completely.

Yes, it's a 2-tier system. That's a good thing, as it encourages teams to use the rookie list for developing rookies, rather than a half-way house for players on their way out of the system.

FIRST MOVES CONFIRMED
Max Stainkamph
The first free agency has signings been confirmed with Josh Battle confirmed to join Hawthorn and Isaac Cumming heading to Adelaide.

The free agency compensation is yet to be decided for either player – both should come through this morning.

As a reminder, we have a FREE trade tracker which can be found here, with every rumoured move or interest across the league from the team at the Herald Sun, Adelaide Advertiser, Code Sports and more.

EDIT - if rumours that FA compo for Isaac is tier 2 does that likely mean 800k+? ANyone? Vader ?

I get your point about overpaying. If he's anywhere inside 15 I'd let it go.

However, trading out F1 isn't irresponsible because next year we can trade out two F1's to get back in.

That wouldn't be irresponsible because after draft 2025 we should've largely finished our list build and really shouldn't need any more first rounders or many draftees at all and should be concentrating in getting games into the ones we do have.. We can drop out the draft for a couple of years with no harm done.
Not very often you can trade in an absolute proven elite top end AFL talent unless it's via free agency...and then there's the problem of the Adelaide factor.

The draft is generally where clubs get the elite talent.

logic dictates relatively more (perhaps speculative) talls - KPP and rucks that are higher risk and take longer - to fill rookie spots then I would have thought compared to previous 3 year rule

Really. Everything I read suggests “super draft”. I know that’s relating to the depth this year which seems phenomenal - you don’t think the top end is “super”

Top end isn’t as good as last years top end

There were more genuine stars in last years top 10 IMO

This draft is crazy strong from 10-70 though and I expect the strongest mid season draft in history next year ( containing good players that went undrafted in 2024 )

Re picking up rucks cheaply both local Rebels lads Rowan Marshall and Lloyd Meek went undrafted in their initial draft year, Marshall in fact was overlooked again in his overage year (19yo) eventually being recruited as a mature ager via the then North Ballarat Roosters VFL team. Lloyd Meek was a bit luckier he was rookie drafted from the Ballarat Rebels as an overager (19yo) by Freo.

Both now their AFL clubs lead ruck.

A - It's not his choice, it's Port pushing him out
B - Any player, contracted or not, has to agree to any trade
Yes, but the true test of his desire to get to VIC, should be his preparedness to go to any vic club, within reason

Otherwise, my opinion is Houston is simply using the storyline to break a Contract … to get a bigger Contract elsewhere

Not sure if you’ve miss heard?
He said Adelaide will need to give him a 5 year deal, it was JJ that floated fog to Brisbane yesterday.

@1.19.30

Can’t get link to load but is podcast early trade full show on trade radio 1.27 h

Yesterday when he floated it he said about Adelaide having a five year deal in front of Fog and Brisbane should
match it, which is hypocritical again as he doesn’t like long contracts.
Wants Bris to use Daniher’s money to get him.

How’s it different to Lukoscius? No one’s implying he should come to whichever SA club GC decide to deal with.

I'm tipping Henry Smith will be given 1st crack as Daniher's replacement in the Full Forward chop out ruck role. Lions have brought Smith along patiently to now and had an AFL taster this year.

Crows chat now on Trade Radio

We “travel well” - holy shit

We will win a final

We have traded well and drafted well recently (they mentioned earlier haven’t always drafted well)

Even if Jenny's intel's correct, there's still 3 clubs before us that can pick Draper (one very likely in that too). All of us should have four pick one options we like, doing anything else is setting yourself up for disappointment.

We've put a lot of work into Draper throughout the year. Physios have done thorough background checks and testing. More so than any other draftee, bar Welsh. Obviously helps that he's on our doorstep and not in Victoria. But there's genuine belief from those particular staff that if Draper's available at 4 then we pick him.

I think they are poorly coached.

Very good list, that needs to use it's resources better.

Ken is stale and mouldy and needs to be replaced.

Crows supporters say Paer's list is top heavy with a poor bottom-end ... how's our glasshouse????
We're almost the reverse of the Pear. We have a weak top-end, particularly in the midfield (where the Tools are strong), but we have better depth at the bottom end. Compare the performances of our SANFL teams, and you'll find that Adelaide have the better depth.

Don't get me wrong, our depth is still weak - but it's much better than Port's.

If we are that keen, would it make sense to look at trading picks with North? It feels like they should go for the key forward with all the midfielders they drafted recently, and he would definitely still be there at 4.

North get something else on top of Armstrong, and we get the player we covet.

That's what I was wondering, too. By the sound of it, the top end of this draft is well stocked with midfielders. If somebody else picks Draper before us then it seems like we won't have any problem getting somebody else just as good with our pick.
Id be more than happy with one of Langford, Smille or Draper

Love how Kane saying we are win now. Putting pressure on. Hardly win now by adding young talent to the team?!
Just doing what every clubs should try to add in mid to young players who have 40 games under there belts.

Port should try it 🤪🤪🤪

I've lost track of what salary corresponds to what band, given the huge increase in salary cap. You could be right.

Watched him have a good game against saints this year, was mentioned by one of the Bris list management crew as next in line but also went on to say they will look at a top end fwd to trade in this year.
