Free agency compensation is literally 1 club getting a player for free whilst the 16 clubs not party to the exchange compensate the 1 club losing that player.

It's outrageous, but $900K a year over 6 years, the pick was going to land there. He's an ok half back flanker.

The history of pick 16 is not on GWS' side. Less than about a 30% chance of landing a serviceable role player which is what Perryman is.

Hamill could play, but had pretty bad concussion issues. I don't think the delisting is surprising.

Amon only got around 600k from Hawthorn IIRC. 4 year deal i think?

These 6 year deals @800-950k are considerably larger than Amon's

Are you naive enough to believe this having seen the compensation given to Geelong for Motlop (it was tied to GAJ) and Amon (Port tax), for example?

Hence why those are the 'guidelines', but the AVFL won't release any concrete rules for determining the compensation. Like everything, it works backwards from 'this is the outcome we want for this VFL club / Victoria in general, what steps will get us there?'.

No: you get a pick predicated on your postion on the ladder, for example, had it been this year we would have got pick 18.
That is wha a lot of players are traded one year out, as pre-agency deals.

Clubs down the bottom + GWS and Gold Coast will get destroyed if they don't get compo picks.
