You are correct regarding Tim Davis' 'amateur' status - we signed him on one of those 'vow of poverty' deals.

Gary Wilson Helmet (which has not been put to use for some time... curse that 'vow of chastity' clause in my contract).

OTL,

your cry for help has been answered by the great one. Some strange goings on of recent times down at BSO, however the Roy believes the moustached master will ensure we prevail over the friars and stay in Crunch Section.

Selections:

Reds by plenty
THE OC to tune up nicely by crunching Parkdale (the roy admits they have it over us though!)
I agree with Ormond v NOBS
Mazenod are flying and will take out oc2
and rupo will do the roys a favour and slaughter Monash

These results will ensure the survival of the Reds and see us continue our march towards ultimate glory in A grade !!!!

the Roy

Prepare yourself for disappointment on Saturday Red and a guaranteed trip back to D Grade. The Friars are hurting after dropping last week's game to Monash and in front of a huge Friars crowd (over 100 going to be in attendance at the final game luncheon they are hosting) and with some very handy returns of late I can see no joy for the reds at Friar Park.

Doesn't matter how many you have at the lunch.

Reds playing for their lives and the Friars playing for nought!

Reds for mine and Burgs to be chaired off a hero!

sausage, i believe that the scotch recruits were mates with s. collins from when he played at scotch and you addressed holland relationship with their coach. dont think there is anything sinister there.

old camberwell and rupo would have to be favourites to go up.
old carey and mazenod will be a cracker. old carey would have to be worried with current form of mazenod, and if 4th beats 3rd this week favouritism would have to be with mazenod.

dont know how the fitzroy coach could be chaired off a hero. what exactly has he done since his return. Instilled confidence in the playing group? made fitzroy competitive? stood by his charges through thick and thin? made clear to everyone how committed he is to coaching the team? laughable. arrogance gets you nowhere.

If the Reds won this weekend he would have been complicit in turning around a plummet that had been locked in earlier in the season. The award-winning Burgs has multiple flags with the Reds already. I can't remember the actual win/loss from last year but I believe he has the better record of any Reds coach to have coached them in C Grade.

Fair points all of them Buff.

Couldn't agree more re the Reds coach. The [abuse removed] didn't even turn up two weeks ago, so how could he claim credit for anything?

I am sure i speak for the majority when I say....go Friars!

Why though Sausage ? What's with the animosity (sp?) towards the Reds ? No one but a few supporters have spruiked about their chances since the start of the year.

Some of the players that the last coach brought from Trinity haven't even played, we've lost our CHB & captain, and our full-back, both excellent players and learnt some valuable lessons about what is required to succeed in C Grade. A decent coach will be a good start.

I can't think of any players that have spewed on about how good we are, and they have simply been trying to make the best of a difficult year. We are relative newcomers to the lofty heights of C Grade and if we manage to stay up, we'll make a better fist of it next year.

If anything you should be taking shots at Whitefriars who have come down from B Grade and done nothing (except being beaten by the bottom side). At least Mazenod have proved that being relegated was not part of the plan and are making a fist of getting back up there.

So is "we're all of us in the gutter, but at least some of us are looking at the stars".

He was a prick who thought nothing could touch him until he copped some years in the pen for dalliances with underage boys, after which he cried and wailed and pleaded for sympathy in de profundis.

Poe kicks Wilde's arse. Wilde could never get a hot air balloon to the moon, and definitely wouldn't have survived being locked in the stowage of a ship under mutiny.

I think what is more important in a club is their overall structure. Sponsors(and how they are looked after), Support staff (and how they are looked after), Coaching group(their structure and process), Social functions, committee, players welfare, junior development, which would make for a good environment to enjoy (most important) your football.

OCamb has impressed me most in most of these areas, I am very happy for our young players to see a side like this as they will learn alot, not unsimilar to our learning curve with OC2 last year, but structure wise i think OC1 is well ahead of all of us.

The less talk on this forum about arrangements between players and clubs the better. If someone gives a niggle, ignore it!! Who cares? I don't.

just had a look at the ladder and a funny thing just stood out. From positions 1-10, each side lower has a lower percentage than the next side. It is all in order. Perhaps the positions currently are about right.

I see in an interview in the paper (Wyndham Leader) that Matty Robbins is retiring from the Bulldogs at the end of this year.

"I've got a few plans. I think I might play on in the VFL, or maybe even play with my brother. He's with Ormond in C grade. I might go back there."

Hmmm!

Definately right. OC1 are the powerhouse who will play B Grade footy next year. Rupo have had an awesome year and are a very good chance to play B-Grade. Only need to win 1 out of 2 finals. 50/50 IMO.
Carey have been very solid and would do well in B, however they are in a tricky spot. Will need to beat a team who are flying (8-0 last 8) to have a crack at Rupo. 30/70 IMO. Mazenod after a slow start showed that they deserve to be in the top 4 with a thumping win over next best Ormond last week. Remember they thumped Rupo at Rupo a month back by 10 goals. If they touch up Old carey this week in the dead rd 18 rubber, then they may be the B-Grade wildcard. 20/80 to play B in 08.

Flag Odds -

Camberwell $1.55
Carey $7.00
Rupo $9.00
Mazenod $10.00

As usual, pretty impressive monkey.

All this from a man who admits he hasn't even seen OC1 play this year yet can provide such insights! The "powerhouse" who have only been on top for a few weeks? Rupo on top for 12 weeks?

I think you have the nodders a little long in the odds!

I would be very happy to take the $10 for the nodders. more like a $3.00 chance for mine

Fair point. The Andrew Sutherland factor alone is worth taking into serious calculations. I will review the odds after i hear the result this week against OC2. Can't entertain odds of 4/1 for a side that will have to beat OC2, Rupo and OC1 over 3 weeks to take the cup. They have been super impressive, but i doubt they are capable of defeating Ormond, Carey, Carey, Rupo and Camberwell to take home the prize. For mine they are the 4th favourites in an extremely bunched pack after the OC1. I hear the VAFA designated inscriber is already working on his small lettering to fit Old Camberwell Grammarians onto the cup!!

As Mr Roll said above, Whitefriars, please do the VAFA a favour and win.

It's a shame that NOBs are relegated, good bunch of blokes and a great club. Hopefully a return from club legend Alphonse can lift them next year.

i heard that mazenod will be regaining the services of a couple of handy players this week EG. dan kelly, nick parry, stick marmo, troy castricum, dom dunne, byron bonner, steven oldman can anyone shed some light on this?

Great mail LBM. I think you may be on the money with some of these. Do not expect Oldy or Marmolade to play ones over the next few weeks, but the others will certainly put pressure on an already overflowing list.
Things are coming together at Nodderland and from what i hear, it isn't only Mr Sausage and Mobbs who are starting to push this barrow.

Yes your boys are looking good Monkey!!

3/1 for mine

Hmmm!

There has already been a major discussion over ex AFL players playing with the VAFA on this thread, and i can tell you are trying to fire it back up. For your information he played there (at ormond) before being picked up by Geelong (then went to the doggies) also both of his brothers are ormond boys. So you can't say he is being sourced by other means (as surgested on this thread about ex AFL players at C grade clubs). That is even if he does go to monders.

Not my boys, just a bunch of lads who are turning it on and certainly need to be respected. They have a very full list and there will be 3-4 players who used to mix it up well in B Grade that will not be able to get a game come finals time. A very handy problem for the coaching staff to have i would have thought.

How do you think the two clubs will play it on Saturday Sausage? Rest a few? Try and gain a psychological edge with a win? Should be a corker.
