Dev played 16 games in 2023 and was in our grand final team that year... and he's played 40 odd games for Brisbane over 4 years in a very successful Brisbane era.

People seem to think he's not a valuable asset to have at the club just because he's had a rough 2024 season. If we have one or two injuries to midfielders early in the season he could well end up playing 20+ games for us. Particularly with Sharp being traded to Melbourne.

Some of the posts around Big Footy about Dev come across as really spiteful. Fans should take that spiteful attitude and direct it towards their clubs, as more than likely a pick 30 would have gotten him to your club in this trade period.

As I understand it the Pies liked him but didn't have the picks to trade.

Why should the lions expect anything for him? He's played mostly VFL his whole time there and effectively the entirety of last season. Will be delisted next season anyway
Because he has a contract for next year and provides valuable depth. We're not a charity.

Sharp being traded is nonesense. Not competing for same role

You completely ignored since 2024 Round 1 and into 2024 pre season, you will have pushed Wilmot, Brain, Reville , L.Ashcroft beyond him too so from where he began in 2024 pre season he now has 4 players infront that were not around when he was getting his games

A guy on 500k a year is too much money when he is like 35th in line on the depth charts

Sharp was effectively our backup midfielder for the finals (i.e. 24th man) and when Sharp played it was a mix of wing, defensive forward and very brief stints in the middle. That is the exact role Dev played in 2023.

Wilmot isn't really comparing apples with apples - he is a half back and hasn't missed a game since debut.

What's nonsense is you suggesting the 500k pay day in 2025 would have been the issue for clubs picking Dev up... that's the biggest load of BS; if he moved to another club, he would have signed a 2 or 3 year contract (which could have smoothed out the 500k due next year).

You saying that he would be our 35th ranked player on our roster just makes you come across as one of those spiteful posters, he's a good player who will be around our 24th/25th best player at the start of next year and if there is midfield injuries, he will definitely get games. He'd probably be in West Coast's top 11-20 player range if you guys picked him up.

I think Dev would have been a better pick up than Graham who you probably are paying ~$600k plus per year and is 3 years older than Dev. So you could have gotten a more talented player, who is younger and is cheaper... overall it's a good outcome for Brisbane that he is staying, the more depth the better and he is loved big time at the club.

He wasnt even best 25 for GF as he wasnt in your list of emergencies. You are adding Coleman, McCarthy, Doedee, Gardner into the squad as well as Ashcroft and Marshal. 6 bodies when he wasnt in the top 25 before... He is definetly in that 30 odd range because of this. 35 does appear harsh but 30-35 is right.

500k is alot when you could get a replacement like Mitch Hardie in on 1/3rd of that quite easily. Is Dev 3 times the player Hardie was in the VFL this year? Didnt look like it . He was insanely easy to replace if he left anyway

Of the players you mentioned only Levi Ashcroft and Marshall are midfielders.
Throwing in defenders and small forwards is not helpful in regard to Dev's position.
Where would Dev fit into the Eagles or Freemantle sides. Would he be a good fit or not. I don't know.
Both WA clubs just did not have the draft capital to get the deal done. Eagles pick 73 and Dockers pick 67.
The Lions would have been after a late second or early 3rd round pick simply because he is under contract and Lions were happy to keep him if no takers.
The Lions were happy for him to look around.
In hindsight Dev would have probably been better moving to the west last year when there was more interest instead of resigning for 2 years.

Despite our injuries this season, his best position is where some of our more durable players fill (Neale, McClugagge and Dunkley missed 1 game between them this year). Sure that might continue to be the case next year, but we don't know that.

We've also lost Lyons this season too, so losing Robertson would've been losing our two best reserve inside midfielders. Unless you know Levi Ashcroft can step in from day one as a big bodied inside midfielder, you're essentially left with Tunstill and not much else. Given we're pushing for another flag, someone that knows the system that can step in at a moment's notice is invaluable.

I'm looking forward to him playing all of 2025 in the 2s next season. Completely wrong team to be on.
No slight on the player either. Think he could be a valuable piece in another side, just don't think this is the right home for him to be able to access an opportunity for his own development

Who is Mitch Hardie and whats his relevance to Dev or the Lions.

Seems Eagles fans are bitter they didn’t acquire a contracted Dev, clearly thinking they should’ve got him cheap after having massively overpaid for Baker.

Again, why is the anger being directed at Brisbane as if we should’ve just let him go for nothing?
Not even that.

Personally I find it weird that we'd be particularly interested anyway, after he turned down a 4 year contract last year to sign a 2 year one instead.

Odd stuff from him, surprised his manager was unable to get him to change his mind.

Hasn't done much at AFL level anyway and for a bloke entering his prime, I find it weird that a number of WCE fans have been so keen.

Hard pass for me.

Then that’s for another club to have come got him and paid a fair price but unfortunately for Dev, no club obviously rated him enough to pay a reasonable price for a contracted player. As others have mentioned, perhaps Dev made the wrong call not moving last year when he had the opportunity, but fair play to him that he backed himself to be part of our team; it just didn’t work out but it’s not to say it won’t in 25.
Yeah it's not the lions fault for him re-signing but I just don't think he has any value anymore from a trade perspective. Using last year as a guide, likely outcome for 2025 is he plays zero games in the 1s and is delisted at seasons end. At this stage he will be 24 having played 2 straight seasons in the VFL. Lions have every right to hold if they want as a contingency plan if something catastrophic happens to their midfield but in hindsight (and as plenty of people at the time thought) for the sake of his own career he should never have re-signed.

From a players perspective you would be more inclined to chase success short term term over a longer contract that would be in a developing side. Sure 4 years is great but at the time when he signed he was starting / cusp of a formidable side.

Footy is about moments and if it had paid off this season, he could have been a premiership player instead of having an early trip to Bali.

He still is a great midfielder who will have to wait his chance, but inevitably it would be best in another side.

Dev still has to be still in front of Lashcroft and Marshall, who as great as they sound are still kids not yet proven in the AFL.

Many teams would be interested in his services.

JFK, Missing Malaysian flights and West Coast refusing to get in Dev Robertson.
Seriously, what on earth is going on here?
The guy is a seriously good young footballer who will only improve if given the opportunity.

Instead, you go after B and C graders that are 27-29.

Something is pretty wrong here.

They asked about him. Brisbane wanted too much (or clearly more than any other club was willing to pay)

He's out of contract next year and we'll do this dance again most likely

From a player's perspective, you should really be looking to bank an extra $1 million out of your career, because the average length is 4 years.

I’m not doubting you but how do you know the Eagles asked about him? More importantly, do you know if they made an offer and what it was?

Our paper (up to you how reliable that is) said we offered pick 73

It's a little unclear whether we went cold or Brissy didn't accept

I have no issue with people saying perhaps Dev would have been better served to take the Eagles offer last season but I don’t understand the subtext to the discussion on this trade period that we’ve somehow done the wrong thing by Dev…it’s not like Dunkley, McRae or Daniher where they’ve asked for trades for multiple seasons…he chose to sign with us a year ago, had an injury-interrupted season in 24 and then we said we want him but we’re happy for him to explore his options too…where have we done the wrong thing? Literally…can someone explain the saltiness?
