I used to see stories from the US about the homeless (often with the suffix 'veterans') and their often massive encampments and astonished than bugger all seems to be done about them. Then I realised that no-one gives a **** and they are just considered the new normal.

I never thought it could happen here - at least to that extent. But walking through the city every second doorway seemed to have a homeless person sleeping in it. I work in Eltham and there are homeless people begging outside the supermarkets (in Eltham!) and down close to home, several homeless people in the carpark of Beaconsfield shopping centre (in bloody Beaconsfield!)

Non government gives a rats about these people. No-one gives a rats about those close to the poverty line, leaving them to fight over the scraps of whatever they offer in regards to indentity and a semblance of things were better before the 'woke' and the immigrants took control.

It is shithouse.
I live in Eltham and I haven't seen homeless people beg in front of Woolies or Coles.

Ever.

He's just won both houses and has a sympathetic supreme court.

If he wants to, what's stopping him?
Honestly, it’s a nonsense. Let’s be in the real world shall we?

One pretty good reason for this type of result.

You go on almost any major social media site and it's dominated by conservative shows, accounts, comments and engagement. Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter it's a landslide. Reddit and Instagram are more mixed, not sure about tik tok, never been on it. I'm not doubting there are bots but even without those, it's an area the left lags behind

Reddit is the most extreme left wing hole of the internet lol

The election campaign left us with so many wonderful moments.

The speech of Bill Clinton in Michigan from nearly a week ago was memorable. In a state where the vote of American Muslims was always going to be a bit of a thing, Bill decided to tell everyone that Palestinians have no legitimate claim to statehood and that Hamas should be blamed for all the innocent deaths over the past year.

Really nailed the content and tone, did Bill, charismatic and charming bloke that he is. Thanks Bill.

Rolling out Bill to shame Muslims and Barack to shame black men, while simultaneously fawning over the Cheneys and chasing Haley voters.

Just outstanding strategy for a Democrat.

Neocons and Neoliberals.

The coalition from hell.
The fact that Harris was referred to as a Marxist and a Communist by Trump is such a laugh.

John Howard would be a Trot by such reckoning.

But look, I advised my wife (who was greatly upset) to stay away from online news for a couple of weeks (at least).

Me? I have long given up on Americans and could not care less. If it turns to shit, then you only have yourselves to blame. I'm at the point of worrying about interest rates and how Trump's policies will impact upon them here.

Honestly **** Americans. They get the government they deserve.

I kinda get the "end wokeism" and all the far-right stuff. Not for me but hey, the US is so backward, why not vote for radical change? That is why I wasn't surprised by Argentina doing the same. Get rid of the Swamp and all that

But for Trump......the guy is an idiot who only employs people who share his name or don't say anything critical. He acts like a 5-year-old

And then you STILL vote for a guy like Ted Cruz.....geech. The guy is the swamp

There are some seriously ingrained party voters. Regardless of politics, I just can't understand voting for people like that.

The one positive I have of this is Mitch Mcconnell's failure is complete. Never has there been such a gutless pollie who has ruined the US as much as that one guy has done. He killed his own party in the end.

Change may be good for the US. Break the cycle. going to be a long 4 years

How exactly is he going to "end wokeness" anyway? Budget cuts for colleges? Will that move any students or teachers minds?

And the media? Hollywood has been socially progressive for what, 40, 50 years? Trump isn't changing that.

Furthermore, those "doctored Republican polls" that were being labelled as herders etc. look to actually have underestimated Trump's vote.
About two weeks ago I did try to push back in the other thread against the assumption that the polls were underselling Harris. I mean, we had two previous elections to look at for the historic trends. Trump outperformed the polling by substantially more in 2016 and 2020 than today, however, he didn't have to emulated those results when the polling was so close prior to this election.
It would've been a massive defiance of history for Harris to have won in the majority of the swing states.
Strap yourselves in for Vance, Ramiswamy and Gabbard for the next two decades.
It will be interesting to see if the Trump-effect will extend to these other politicians in the future.
Also, the changes in the electoral numbers following the 2030 census will potentially have a large impact on Republican fortunes in the future, with both Texas and Florida receiving more votes after this and now they must be considered to be entrenched for the Republicans (Trump today carrying Texas by 1,560,000 votes i.e. 14% and Florida by 1,400,000 votes i.e. 13%).

No, answer the question.

Say, on the edge of a whim, Trump decided to remove term limits. He has control of both houses. He has control of the supreme court. He has reshaped his party in his image.

Say, he takes it into his head that he should be president for life. Makes sense; he idolises Putin and Xi and wants what Kim Jong Un has. What's stopping him from doing it?

I have to ask, why is it so difficult for the Democrats to run a half decent candidate? Seriously. And why did they not learn a single thing from 2016???

Harris' campaign when you boil it down was just "I'm not Trump please vote me"

Gee how riveting. No primaries either, the Democrats didn't even get to choose their candidate, she was just put there.
They are the party of unreasonableness. Every policy they have is based in fantasy. They believe censorship is freedom, that criminals are victims, that men can be women etc etc. Of course they can't pick a good candidate because they have long left reason behind.

Turnbull would be far left in the USA.

Whitlam would have been considered the 2nd coming of Marx in the USA.
