So big enough to be ruckman, but actually having forward craft. If everyone stays healthy, surely club is looking to trade one of Bryan or Draper in a few years. Caddy, Kako and Gerreyn cover a lot of forward needs between them, while Gerreyn can add ruckman minutes to the side as well. Good get. I wonder if this means we are going to let Draper go. I get the feeling that Gerreyn won't take as long as most ruckmen to come on due to his thickness and mobility.

Even if Draper stays after having a great season there’s no guarantee we keep either of Nick Bryan or Peter Wright.

Could also be we just wanted another VFL tall so Goldy wouldn’t have to play every week and we’d have injury cover. Or that Kale’s blend of Size/Athleticism was just too good to pass up.

People need to cool their jets a bit, both Gerreyn and Visentini (if they make it) are still a couple of years off being AFL ready for a KPP, let alone a ruckman.

Wright is 28 and should be good for a few more years, Goldstein is in his final season and may finish up mid-year if we need a MSD spot.

By the time Wright is in his early 30s we'd hope one of Gerreyn or Visentini is ready to play as an AFL KPF. Neither are high picks so the chance of one making it is less, hopefully with two (plus Jones) we can find a KPF to pair with Caddy long-term.

The "talls" take a long time is not just a truism. It is that they are often less coordinated and being skinny will take a long time to build the body mass while completing all of the athletic requirements of an AFL player. Gerreyn looks a good size already and moves well. He may have lots of things to work on to be an AFL ready player, he may not. It won't be just because he's a tall.

If the first half of next year looks like the 2nd half of this year and he's fit and in form, then we should be playing him.

Being an AFL ready KPP, and playing at AFL level aren't the same things.

He's a few years off being the weight and strength of a mature KPP. Draper is a bit of a physical specimen in terms of his size and strength and it wasn't really until he was 23 or so he started to be able to hold his own.

Last thing we should be doing is rushing talls in to the AFL side, far better to let them build continuity of games and training to build their body up.

El-Hawli and Prior are like new recruits who are ready made, should be able to replace Hepp/Kellys output.
Reid likely pushes LAV out
Caddy is a year stronger
Kako is genuine small forward with pace and excitement
No Stringer = potential opportunities for Perkins/martin up forward or even Day-Wicks when injuries occur

We should be better than next year.

We've drafted young guys for 3 years now and you think it is 6 years to winning a final? If this build works, we should be challenging before then, and 2030 would be rebuilding after Merrett, Parish, Langford, McKay and Ridley retire.

Dodoro has never been able to draft talls. Daniher was a father son gift, Hurley was pick 5 and we had to take him as he was the best available defender & Fletcher was getting old, Mal Michael Retired.

Not a dodo fan by any means but he did get carlisle, hooker, ryder hurley in similar time. Pears was showing a decent trajectory too b4 injury. That's not a bad list of talls.

Mark Harvey was the medium/tall defender whisperer. It’s not a tall/small thing that we have struggled with, it’s a forward/back thing, we have struggled with forwards of all shapes and sizes and had great success with defenders.

Also the club will hardly be banking on any of Gerryn or Visentini making it. Clubs always have a squad where not everyone can play together in the same side.

Dont necessarily think its a Draper/Bryan replacement or not. Although as ive harped on it may be hard to keep both Bryan and Draper and many giants are OOC

I wouldnt necessarily be ruling out a Caddy, 200cm+, Gerryn as 3 talls in like 3-4 years time

But he is also that ready to go ruckman aswell if need be

To be fair In the modern AFL tall defenders are much more important than tall forwards.

Goal scoring is done as a unit and it doesn’t really matter much if your primary option is a tall. Just as long as you have good options and at the very least 1 tall forward who can negate the impact of an elite tall defender

Yet the reverse isn’t true. If you put a poor. Tall defender on a Good key forward your screwed
