What are things in life - both football and non-football related - that make you feel old?

Here are some of mine:

  • A number of the Brisbane Lions players were not even born at the time the Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy merged in 1996.
  • There are no remaining AFL listed players born in the 1970s or who played in the 1990s.
  • Sons of 1990s players are now playing AFL.
  • Teenagers say that something is 'so 1990s'.
  • Some of my high school classmates from the early 1990s have adult children.
  • Alicia Silverstone plays the mother of teenagers in the recently released 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' movie.
  • Actresses Kate Winslett and Reese Witherspoon both have daughters aged 16.
  • I remember watching a news story in 1998 about Steve and Terri Irwin welcoming their first baby into the world - a daughter named Bindi.
  • Princess Diana has been gone nearly 20 years now.
  • September 11 happened closer to 1985 than the present day.

Whoever bought their records in the 80s has my gratitude.
Our music purchasing Librarian retired a few years ago and the collection has suffered for it. He was across world music, all genres and just has awesome taste. CDs are still hugely popular.

My dad got rid of 100s of records in the 90s 😭😭

My dad gave me his records when he downsized, maybe 30 or 40 of them. Complete mixed bag from Beatles albums to Monty Python to The Seekers.

Completely baffled me that after decades of accumulating crap that that was one of the things he had no attachment to and saw no value in. These are records from the 60s, bought in the 60s and listened to in the 60s. Happy to report that the collection has started propagating.

I got no good records from my Dad, he was born back in the WW2 era but he may as well have been born back in the WW! era.

He likes the old fashioned jazz and I can't stand jazz, the only record I liked that he had was a George Benson record from 1980.

I got a whole bunch of Dave Brubeck albums with Portuguese sleevenotes because they were Mozambique imports.

It sounds like he was similar to my dad, the swinging sixties passed him by despite being in his 20s back then.

My mum saw The Beatles in Auckland back in the sixties and my dad probably didn't even know who they were.

My mum saw the Beatles in person and her description of the experience was 'too loud'. Pretty much summed her up.

My mum said you could hardly even hear them playing due to all the screaming, one of the reasons they stopped playing live.

my parents most played together over the years would probably be stuff like Creedence & America. They have some different tastes but more generally that 70s west coast sound tends to be their hang vibe.

I like that 70s west coast sound too with bands like The Eagles, America and Fleetwood Mac even though it was before my time.

I was walking down to my office Christmas party last Friday, when we went past Utopia Records, a Sydney institution for fans of a certain genre. I pointed it out to a younger colleague, said I'd been buying music there since the 90s. He asks what type of music it sells.

I responded (deadpan): They have both kinds, Heavy AND Metal.

He had NFI what I was talking about.

I once got asked by a friend of my wife's "So what do you listen to, house or R and B?" I pissed myself laughing

I didn't deserve this. I'm a good person, I've volunteered for kids charities, I foster dogs, I donate when I can. I didn't deserve the fat, grey and bald axis of evil :'(
So glad I'm not bald

My beard is getting so grey I trim it more and more, but my hair... My god Im so thankfull that I have such a full head of hair, mousy brown in winter, golden brown in summer, with not a hint of grey.

Recent premierships help I guess.
Yeh up until recently i too had hardly any greys in head hair but beard was about 50-50. Now i have some greys above ears and here and there on top but still 50-50 beard.
If i shave my beard it would probably drop 10 years off my look. But. Dropping the beard is dangerous
