The Milera hate on here is baffling.100% agree. Should not even be considered. Needs a month at least in SANFL and needs to demonstrate at least a willingness to defend to be considered
I notice Matt’s meters gained is the worst on the page for the mids.
I find the defence of Crouch somewhat refreshing because I don’t really enjoy a pile on, if somewhat surprising this season.
That said - For me Crouch’s stats didn’t really change all that significantly between being dropped and coming back in, they (AFC) just changed the narrative about him and spoke about him being more positive.
My concern with Crouch is his limitations - slow, does not defend that well, not a defensive mid. Add his inflexibility to play in any other position means he blocks opportunities for more talented players.
His best football was in 2017 which is now 7 years ago,
If he can’t help prevent opposition run ons and defend then they need to move on from him, and find a defensive balance for the more attacking mids the crows are developing.

It’s the negativity that comes with mature players coming back from injury ….. there is an ageism bias amongst supporters
Pure rubbish …. you have some strange takes sometimesMilera doesn't really excell at anything playing HB. Not a lot of run and carry, not a huge kick, not much defenesively, prone to brain farts. His manager has fleeced us getting him a 5 extention years ago.
I think Matt made a visible change at the end of '23 - he started to take options that were forward of the ball (instead of just releasing it to a player not in an attacking position), and he hit the contest at pace, trying to be more proactive.I notice Matt’s meters gained is the worst on the page for the mids.

He's shown very little over his career. It’s the negativity that comes with mature players coming back from injury ….. there is an ageism bias amongst supporters
Milera is highly talented ….. i just don’t get either, that people just can’t see the difference he makes to the side
It's not hate, it's the fact people think he walks straight back into the best 23 after YET ANOTHER long term injury.
Agree - he should have to earn his spot thru pre season and trial game form like anyone else , I’d have Nank ahead at this stageIt's not hate, it's the fact people think he walks straight back into the best 23 after YET ANOTHER long term injury.
We've got half backs coming out of our backsides, none of whom deserve to make way for him, at least not early in the season.
Why is that!In retrospect you’d have to be disappointed with that reply - it was unwarranted and completely unnecessary
Always read you as better than that
He's had a couple of stretches where he's been very damaging - but he has taken a while to get back from injuries in the past and get comfortable with in game pressure, so I'd agree that he surely needs time in the SANFL.For the life of me I don't get the Milera love at all. Guy does like 2 slick side steps a year (when he's not injured) and people are looking at him like he's Andrew McCleod.
Has he ever once torn a game apart? Even Jones had that one Showdown.
Not saying he's a bad player but I don't see anything next level about him at all.
yeah - just pick the best guys for HB - no benefits of "maturity" for Smith or Milera. The ones that don't make it into best 23 go back to SANFL and continue to improve. He will get his go when the time comes, but frankly there are some other pretty exciting alternatives named thereHe's had a couple of stretches where he's been very damaging - but he has taken a while to get back from injuries in the past and get comfortable with in game pressure, so I'd agree that he surely needs time in the SANFL.
I agree with the posters who've pointed out the volume of small/midsized defenders we have - Isaac Cumming, Mitch Hinge, Max Michalanney, Chayce Jones, Luke Nankervis, Rory Laird, Wayne Milera, Oscar Ryan, Hugh Bond, Brodie Smith. You can probably only play four to five of them.
Still, I'm glad Milera is showing a lot in match sims.
He's had two seasons where he looked great, played well, showed lots of agility and class. Accurate kick, great in traffic. For the life of me I don't get the Milera love at all. Guy does like 2 slick side steps a year (when he's not injured) and people are looking at him like he's Andrew McCleod.

I don't hate Milera, but he should no lower be assumed to be best 22.
Berry deficiencies are way worse than Crouch's. I have no issue trying the midfield out without Crouch but if we're using Berry in that role we're not going to get anywhere. No one can win clearances as well as Crouch can at the club.
Reckon their clearance rates would be similar, but Crouch usually thinks more about how he is going to dispose the ball.I’d be interested to see clearance rate per midfield minute. Crouch benefits by playing 100% of his TOG in the stoppage rotation. And I think you’ll find that Laird matches him when he’s in there.
I don't know where that stat is, but Wheelo Ratings tracks centre clearances per centre bounce attendance.I’d be interested to see clearance rate per midfield minute. Crouch benefits by playing 100% of his TOG in the stoppage rotation. And I think you’ll find that Laird matches him when he’s in there.
There’s no such thing as clearance rate per minuteI’d be interested to see clearance rate per midfield minute. Crouch benefits by playing 100% of his TOG in the stoppage rotation. And I think you’ll find that Laird matches him when he’s in there.
Two things:I don't know where that stat is, but Wheelo Ratings tracks centre clearances per centre bounce attendance.
Crouch runs at 14.3% (5th best in AFL for 2 or more clearances a game), Rankine 12.7%, Laird 12.2% and Soligo 12.0%. Berry goes at 8.1%.
I assume Dawson is much lower.I don't know where that stat is, but Wheelo Ratings tracks centre clearances per centre bounce attendance.

Statistically you would be wrong about Crouch v Rankine. Two things:
1. Given the disparity in CBA attendances between Rankine & Crouch …. statistically Rankine is the better clearance player
Add Peatling who offers speed, along with Rankine ..plus better defensive actions …. there’s no need for Crouch, given his defficiencies
2. Will Crouch get a new Contract at years end ? ….. doubt it, so prefer to get midfield games into Draper, Rachelle and Pedlar
Even ANB offers more defensive transition pressure than Crouch
That's an interesting stat. What a great website ...I don't know where that stat is, but Wheelo Ratings tracks centre clearances per centre bounce attendance.

I agree with you that Berry isn’t convincing as the alternative. Games where he has an attack of the fumbles are concerning.Berry deficiencies are way worse than Crouch's. I have no issue trying the midfield out without Crouch but if we're using Berry in that role we're not going to get anywhere. No one can win clearances as well as Crouch can at the club.
