Big difference between 30 yo and 34.

Also the Saad Quaynor one isn't even close, so age wouldn't be a factor. When you crunch the numbers Saad it's pretty clear who the more damaging player off the half back line is.

Yes plenty of names missing from that list, but all have their reasons. Mihocek for instance wouldn't play in a team with Curnow, McKay, TDK and Cameron in it. Too tall in that scenario.
Suggest you're in the minority if you're picking a 30 year old Saad (turning 31 in 2025) ahead of a 25 year old Quaynor going into 2025.

Your team doesn't have a third tall in the forward line - assume you're moving TDK into the forward line when Cameron comes on as a relief ruckman? Nonetheless, Mihocek gets in ahead of Hollands every day of the week. Move Elliott or Hill up to a flank and put Mihocek in a pocket. 40 goals from Mihocek beats under 20 goals from Hollands, regardless of what Hollands does further up the field (given the talent the combined team has on the ball and wings).

For the Swans/GWS team it would likely be

B: Dane Rampe, Sam Taylor, Connor Idun
HB: Nick Blakey, Tom McCartin, Lachie Whitfield
C: Josh Kelly, Chad Warner, Errol Gulden
HF: Stephen Coniglio, Logan McDonald, Finn Callaghan
F: Tom Papley, Jesse Hogan, Toby Greene
Foll: Brodie Grundy, Tom Green, Isaac Heeney
I/C: Callum Mills, Callan Ward, Stephen Coniglio, Aaron Cadman

A pretty damn strong side, take the Swans but would fix the Swans defensive and forward issues and also provide a lot more grunt in the midfield.

Would say it will be a top team but I am curious about what other people would come up with for their combined teams.

Which new club would be at the top of the ladder and which would be at the bottom?
This would be the strongest team for mine.

I think a forward line of Papley and Greene would be very interesting too.

A part of me would love to have a bit of a round robin sort of competition at the end of the season with combined teams like this, though I know it will never happen. Would be fun though.

Richmond/Hawthron
B: Blake Hardwick, Tom Barrass, Jarman Impey
HB: Karl Amon, Josh Battle, Jack Scrimshaw
C: Massimo D’Ambrosio, Will Day, Josh Weddle
HF: Jack Ginnivan, James Sicily, Dylan Moore
F: Calsher Dear, Mitch Lewis, Nick Watson
Foll: Lloyd Meek, James Worpel, Jai Newcombe
I/C: Changkuoth Jiath, Conor Nash, Connor Macdonald, Sam Frost
The next dynasty team.

Maynard Weitering Quaynor
Houston Moore Newman
N Daicos Cripps Walsh
Mihocek McKay De Goey
Elliott Curnow Hill

Cameron Hewett Crisp

Pendlebury J Daicos E Hollands Saad

McGovern
I would have DeKoning in there somewhere even if on the bench in front of either Hollands or Saad.
Looks pretty good otherwise
Not a bad effort.

TDK has to be in.

Hewett, E. Hollands or Saad out, N. Daicos Ruck Rover, J. Daicos to wing.

Cogs in there twice.

But a very very good side.

This is a thread because I am a little board and I find the idea interesting.

Say the AFL suddenly decided that 18 teams was far too much and they wanted to decrease the amount of teams to 9.

So every team must merge with the team they are geographically closest to.

So

Sydney/GWS
Port Adelaide/Adelaide
Fremantle/West Coast
Brisbane/Gold Coast

and for the Victorian teams, it is a bit harder to decide but using the zones we can sort of work it out

mapvic.jpg

So

Richmond/Hawthorn
Geelong/Western Bulldogs
North Melbourne/Essendon
Carlton/Collingwood
St Kilda/Melbourne

and here are the general best 22's for each club

St Kilda Hawthorn make more sense

B- Wilkie May Rivers

HB- Sinclair lever Wanganeen Milera

C- Langdon Steele Hill

HF- Petracca Van Rooyen Pickett

FF- Fritsch King Higgins

R- Gawn Viney Oliver

What a crap team.

Apologises if I’ve missed anybody

Jeepers, there wouldn't be many combined teams where Marshall is the backup ruckman!

Too many spud saint kilda players dragging the team down.

Mcvee is better than whoever Sinclair is and Steele is washed.
Hill is a lazy campaigner.

Having to pick at least 11 players from each side would be more interesting
St Kilda/Melbourne with an 11/11 split

FB: Wilkie, May, McVee
HB: Sinclair, Lever, NWM
C: Langdon, Petrecca, Wood
HF: Hill, King, Pickett
FF: Fritsch, Marshall, Higgins
R: Gawn, Viney, Steele
I/C: Rivers, Oliver, Henry, Owens

Pretty good side. Both teams strengths compliment each other well so getting an even split was pretty easy.

Hawthorn/Richmond

B: Blake Hardwick, Tom Barrass, Jack Scrimshaw
HB: Karl Amon, Josh Battle, Nick Vlastuin
C:
Massimo D'Ambrosio, Will Day, Josh Weddle
HF: Tim Taranto, James Sicily, Dylan Moore
F: Calsher Dear, Tom Lynch, Nick Watson
Foll: Toby Nankervis, James Worpel, Jai Newcombe
I/C: Jarman Impey, Connor Macdonald, Mabior Chol, Conor Nash

Flip of the coin with Meek/Nank. Not much else from the Tigers to compete for spots.

Mabs was our highest goal kicker in 2024, so deserves to saddle up on the bench.

Noah Balta has that whole backline covered.

Really like the Nank pick goes a little bit under the radar but can certainly hold his own against the top tier rucks

Meek might leapfrog him this season but if we are picking the sides today Nank gets the chocolates

Didn't see that. Will make the change
