Rudest/Nicest player you've met?

Richo is still by far the nicest footballer I've ever met, as a kid and as an adult. I think he had a really good understanding of how much he meant to Richmond fan's especially kids that idolised him.

His best mate Ben Harrison is also super nice.

Can't stand Darcy Moore, this doesn't surprise me.

I also had a good run in with Barry hall, saw him at a nightclub when he was playing for the swans, my mate was a swans fan, not shy, told him he was pissed off when they traded him in, coz he thought he was shit at St Kilda, but is glad they did. Hall smiled and said, thanks mate, I've never had anyone tell me they thought I was shit before to my face, followed by a laugh and then kept engaging no issues.

Lots of nice player encounters. Two standouts were Barry Hall and Matt Taberner.

I literally bumped into Barry Hall. We were both trying to squeeze through tables at a function and I accidentally bumped into him and gave the old 'sorry mate', before I realised who it was. I had coincidentally just finished his autobiography so mentioned it. He seemed genuinely interested and we had a nice chat about it.

I was on a plane to Gold Coast and the Freo boys were all on the same flight. They were walking up and down the isles for most of the flight, and some of them had breathing masks on. At the time my daughter was about 5 years old. When she saw these enormous monsters wearing masks she became quite scarred. Matt Taberner stopped, took off his mask and had a chat with her. He was just so kind. My daughter is 15 now and we still talk about it.

I wouldnt say 'met' as such because I like to maintain a level of professionalism in my work dealings but I 'encounter' groups of AFL players, coaches, staff and media fairly regularly.
I dont call them by name or ask for selfies or any other fan type carry on but if they stop for a chat or offer a handshake I always engage and will offer a compliment of wish them well in their next game or whatever and its always well received.

I just think that unless its at a game or at training then they should be able to go about their business without me making a fuss.
Had a large group only recently who I recognised straight away but didnt let on that I knew who they were and they seemed happy with that.
One of them grabbed my mic and was clowning around, I said you'd make a better footballer than comedian, gave him a wink, patted him on the back and we all laughed.

At the end of the night one of the group said you do know who you've got with you yeah, I said sure do but its not my place to highlight it.
He then went on to compliment me on the service I provided them which was much more rewarding than any selfie or banter.

Will say though, ran into Charlie Dixon at the Bend last year and he said g'day with a huge smile on his face to my Wife and I before we realised it was him.
Probably mistook her Chaz Mostert colours for Power colours, lol.

I've met a few over the years but I'd probably say my worst interactions were:

• I know you're not supposed to speak ill of the dead but Colin Silvia was not a good bloke from my few interactions with him and had a massive go at a poor uni kid behind the jump at a pub in Port Melbourne on one occasion because his stir fry wasn't to his liking (who orders a stir fry at a pub even if you're trying to look after your body). Suspect strongly he was on some no good gear that day as he was very erratic.
• Courtney Johns I spent the day with at Moonee Valley one year through a friend of a friend. Absolute bellend and one of the most arrogant people I've ever met on the basis of not very much.
• Anthony Rock was a pig of a person and one of the rudest people I've met.

• Dippa at the races one year (regaled us with the Dimmies and Forges ad all the way down the escalator!). I think there's been a few people thus far who've commented on what an absolute legitimate down to earth legend he is.

Not footy but had a long chat with Skull outside the cricket one year. That bloke is an absolute national treasure.

Went to a Richmond family day about a decade ago, and when the day ended all the players high tailed it into Punt Road … except one - Jack Riewoldt.

This was at the zenith of hiding behind cars and media floggings … but he was there signing for kids and getting photos … my kids got their jumpers signed and I got photos and I’ve never forgotten how Jack went way above and beyond to make sure nobody missed out.

He didn’t have to and there wasn’t any attention on this as it was out of the media spotlight - so he gained nothing personally by sacrificing an extra hour of his time other than making the day of hundreds of extra kids and their families.

Said a lot about the guy.

Met Richo at a B&S ball back in the day, he was a star and was chatting to anyone and everyone. All the men wanted to be him and all the women wanted to be with him.

Crawf was like this too. I remember Collingwood played Hawthorn in a preseason match at Tatura in 1998 or thereabouts, and after the game, when most of the players were in the rooms having showers and getting ready to split Crawf was standing outside in his shorts, just chatting to the kids and talking to all the Footy heads like he was a local who’d just played reserves.
