Both those players will be due for moderate pay rises but we'll have a hell of a lot more $$ coming off our books. Will have plenty of cap space to play with if we don't pick up Houston which from all reports we won't be.

it was widely reported TDK took less money to prove himself to get to FA. he pdid exactly that this year so the pay rise wont be moderate, otherwise that defeats the purpose of taking less to get to FA. plenty of offers be coming in from multiple clubs.

TDK is already on good money but turned down monster deals from other clubs. He won't be getting a 1million dollar pay rise or something though. Blues have plenty of pieces we can move on if we needed cap space for SDK after signing Weitering and TDK.

That’s great
Now back to the actual question what position on the ground has he been training?

Mainly kpd but given our ruck issues I wouldn't be surprised to see him starring ruck.

On a more serious note sounds like he is playing #1 ruck and Blitz is returning to the d50
Bold decision in a contract year. Ruck isn't everyones cup of tea and a brutal role to play for a whole season. There'd be a few clubs throwing him some very good offers to return to his KPD role next year if it doesn't pan out (Obviously Blues being one of them)

Well you can only dance with the shoes you've got and he's the ruck shoes

I'd have kept him down back. Was one of the most promising young KPDs in the comp a couple years ago.

That's before he got a major concussion and his face shattered.
Lost confidence, getting him around the ball drove his confidence back up.

That game that everyone quotes about how good TDK played in which he played a blinder, SDK was ranked 2nd best on ground right behind TDK.
And that was playing ruck against TDK.

Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up, your opponent gets the better of you.
Sam's had some great games in the ruck in 2024, that's why they are persisting with it.

Think people forget Sam and Tom are not the same age, for some reason people think they are twins....

Sam is a few years younger than Tom. The same question marks people had over Tom people are the same ones they are now leveling at Sam.

I know thats what CD said but to me SDK wasn't really close to the top 3 or 4 players that day. Cripps, TDK, Walsh and Kennedy absolutely bulldozed Geelong in the middle that night and SDK for that. He let TDK set the tone. Curnow was also massive that night.

To me SDK is best suited down back for the simple reason that I don't think he's a naturally combative type like his brother, which I believe is critical for a ruckman. Much more of a cerebral player than his brother and reads the play extremely well down back but I'm not sure he's going to have the fight in him when he comes against the big brick s***houses like Xerri and Briggs.

Anyway, he certainly showed a bit around the ground in the role, so if he develops his ruck craft this year and starts imposing himself on the contest more he could very well flourish. A wait and see.

That was like his first full game as ruck ever. He got better through the year.

He's not any worse as a key defender now than he was in 2022 either. We just need him to ruck.

I think the 2nd part of this is bordering on untrue these days. We haven't really seen him perform down back like he did in 2022 for a couple of years now. As others have said, the fractured face certainly caused issues with his confidence and form which helped prompt the ruck shift.

Will be very interested to see what he does end of year if Connor O'Sullivan comes on this year and SDK doesn't take to full time ruck duties. I've heard theres doubts over Conway's immediate future in some regard but not sure what that chat is about.

Would love him at the Blues playing with Tom if he was looking for more time down back. Him and Weitering would make a fantastic pairing.

He fractured his face, then had surgeries, then got thrown in the ruck. The issue is wildly overstated.

AFL is a business afterall and every player has their price, unlike his brother Tom, SDK is not a FA so if he does get his head turned and he has a decent 2025. interested parties prepare to part with something nice and shiny
