A twice delisted small forward.

Bucky from My Blue Heaven had his stats for Ports 3 finals appearances in 2024. Hardly inspiring.

Good luck Frankie, you must have shown a bucketful in the closed sessions.

Jeez we have zero faith in our small forward stocks to be picking Evans.

In all seriousness, do we have the worst small forwards setup in the league?

Trained a lot off HB. Given Cincotta & Newman are injured,
Williams is now a forward, and Docherty seems to be mostly up the field so I can understand the decision.

Go through our list and we don’t have that many mature running defenders.

Ollie is young. Wilson is young. Cowan is young, Charleson is young, Carroll is young and Saad is injury prone. Boyd struggled last year. Adding a mature readymade option who is hard at it is fair

I wish him the best. He’s a blue now

I watched some Port games last year where I thought that Evans was pretty decent. He does have some AFL level traits. We are talking AFL players ranked in the late 700s here. Just having displayed an ability to play a role is a good thing at this point.

In 2024? Absolutely.

2025 all hinges on Motlop having a breakout year and Williams + Orazio getting back to their previous best.

If none of that occurs in 2025 we're ****ed

Strange decision. Let's all pray that Weitering doesn't get injured

I don’t want to lose Weitering regardless. Star and IMO our most valuable player

But we have Young who has had a good pre season, Silvagni has been impressive as KPD (same height as Collins/Barrass etc) Lemmey is improving and Haynes can play tall if needed

Plus the developing 0’Farrell

That’s actually as many options as any other club has on one list and we still have mid season draft

Imo weiterings not only our MVP but I also think he’s our second best player, second to the Brownlow medalist only

I think the potentials there to have the backline work, but we are straight up screwed without weiters, much like any other team would be losing a calibre of player like that. In saying that, doesn’t mean we pick a defender for the sake of having one. Best option always

Too early in the season to be doing my rag...but if we pick up another bog average small forward to add to the 5 we already have I'll make an exception.

Guess what. We just did. Cueing your rage music now…. 😂

No SSP pick was going to be an injury replacement for Weitering.

Any KPD was break glass in case Silvagni doesn't work and Gov/Haynes get exposed for lack of height.

Indeed. But I'm not sure we needed injury coverage for Fogarty or Fantasia.
Fair to say, we are under represented numbers wise for small/pressure forwards compared to many/most clubs. The modern game has elevated their use and “importance”.

Our game plan is quite brutal with the use of our small/medium forwards. We now have a “pack” that are on a similar level and are somewhat interchangeable. May be forecasting a rotation policy. (Spitballing)

It seems to me that Voss wants to play 4 small forwards, even if there are better footballers languishing in the 2's. I find it hard to understand or support that approach. But, Voss is an AFL head coach and I'm not. So I hope it proves to be a successful gameplan. I'm just not convinced that we have 4 AFL quality small forwards.

Or he wants to play 3, but wants options.

I reckon we saw how important the Fogarty defensive pressure was last year, could be as simple as seeing Evans as the best candidate to offer depth in that role.

Motlop, Williams, Fantasia and Durdin aren't overly defensive types, and all have had injury issues. Moir is more a hybrid medium forward. We're pretty well stocked for those attacking smalls, but Fogarty was our defensive barometer and if he goes down our forward balance was off.

If Evans has demonstrated this preseason that he can play the Fogarty role, that might be all there is to it.
