It's not just the pit crew & engineers which make motor racing a team sport (which it definitely is). In many competitions teams have multiple car/driver combinations, with drivers working together to achieve the best possible result for the team.

Note that the F1 Constructors Championship isn't the same as the Drivers Championship. Last year the WDC was won by Max Verstappen (Red Bull), while McLaren won the Constructors Championship. The CC is based on the points achieved by both of the team's cars, whereas the WDC is very much an individual title.

One example of how drivers act as a team is when one driver providing an aerodynamic tow for the other during qualifying, thereby allowing the other driver to achieve the absolute optimal qualifying time. Similarly, teammates will often act as a "rear gunner" for a teammate ahead of them, making it as hard as possible for faster cars to overtake them, thereby denying (or limiting) the ability of the faster car to overtake their teammate.

Malcolm Blight was actively involved in the match but he wasn't in the team

You seem to regard "off field support staff" as some sort of put down? It's no shame to be part of the crucial support crew for an individual sport.

The arena is empty except for one man
Still driving and striving as fast as he can
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

He's going the distance

Not we're going the distance.
Now you're quoting lyrics from a rubbish song.

Blight gets as much recognition if not more than the players did in 97

How is a mechanic doing a pit stop off field though?
The time doesn’t stop before they go into the pits.
It's literally the pits

They go off the field of play (the track) for their support crew to tweak the car, fill it with petrol, make repairs.

Unless my mechanic who works on my faulty brakes is actually a sportsman?

That's right, the off field, non-team staff is crucial

It’s a timed sport, they directly affect the time.
Just like a NFL when the specialists come on to do their part and directly affect the scoring in a scoring sport.

But that's all part of the race, the race doesn't stop when a car's in the pit lane. A player gets a rest when he goes onto the bench and he isn't part of the live play. But when a driver enters the pits the race is still live and this plays (often a race altering) part in the race.

Yep the most compelling argument it's a team sport is that there are two drivers from each team on the track and they work together tactically.

All the other stuff of the pit crew and engineers doesn't matter.

There’s a team sports that involves just players and team sports that includes the athletes and their team who get them on the park.

A footballer could actually train by themselves and still play the game.

Unless a F1 driver can fund a racing car, engineer it, repair it, perform pit stops all by himself, then he relies on his team, it’s a team sport and why the racing team also win a championship.

Now just shut up 😃

LOL, it's just people filling in time on the internet doing banter, Kane. No need to take yourself so seriously.
I'm not the one trying to make claims about something I have no idea about... but I'm not losing sleep as obvious to most you don't follow F1.

Would be like me claiming to know about horse racing...

The game is still going while the player gets medical attention from his non-team support crew in AFL, the same as the race is still going while the car gets mechanical attention from his non-team support crew in F1.

Yes and the player comes off and someone else goes on, the driver subs off (parked) the teammates (mechanics) take over for a minute while the full fill their role, then they sub out, the driver subs in and takes off.
Your problem is trying to equate a timed sport to a scoring sport.
The mechanic has direct impact on the time with no driver influence, however a doctor cannot change the score without the players influence.

Im laughing at your lack of basic knowledge, far from upset.

But like your mate Wayne you love a good narrative shift.
I'm far from upset! How dare you say that I'm upset, I'm going to file a complaint!

Mate, this is obviously people just doing some banter - you don't have to take everything so seriously. It's crazy that you get so aggressive on something so absolutely meaningless.
