Is Ken still actively coaching or is he just collecting a pay cheque?

Do you all think things will be vastly different under Carr? Is it just a player mindset that will change under him or an entire change in structure?

Has he spoken much about if he'll get to implement any of his plans going forward this season?
1. He is still actively coaching but Carr is set to have more involvement with list management meetings and strategy throughout this year, so whether Ken is actually taking on the full load of duties could absolutely be questioned.

He would be collecting a pay out if he wanted to exit earlier anyway so it's not exactly a money matter, but I feel like his emotional ego is definitely driving him to coach an extra year more than anything.

2. I am optimistic it CAN be different for the better, but we still need to seek some strong assistant options from outside the club to compliment Carr's midfield system and challenge the norms. Chris Davies and Jason Cripps also need to be put under the spotlight for their terrible mismanagement of the list and cultural standards.

So I think Josh is absolutely a solid choice for senior coach, but if change can't also occur with those who surround him, it will have little impact in the long term.

3. Much of a wait and see, but I assume if the year starts poorly and we get ruled out of flag contention early, the players will likely start performing with Carr in mind, kind of as an early audition to see who is and isn't going to be suited to his system.

Midfield is still definitely going to be under his direct control so any early sneak peaks into the future system will likely start there.

I commented ealier in the pre-season, regarding our match simulation, that I didn't like the over use of short kicks and being handball happy that was on display. What we should have learnt from the trial was that we need faster movement and fewer possessions per metre if we are going for a smaller more mobile forward structure. What we saw was bottom 5 level of play. Sinn and Lorenz were disappointing but Berry and Richards look really classy. We looked better with Lord in the side.

We’ve historically been quite poor in the pre season then started the season pretty well besides 2022.

I’m not getting carried away, and I’ve got the benefit of missing the first half and it actually seemed like we were the better team for most of the 3rd and 4th quarters but frustratingly struggled to put it on the scoreboard again, which has been a theme for years.

But the most concerning thing of today and it was half expected but our defence is going to miss BZT and to a lesser extent Esava. Crows scored with ease. Their f50 efficiency compared to us must’ve been chalk and cheese.

Got the full luko experience. Completely missing for 40 mins, squibbed a few contests, kicked a goal into the wind that went 60m, and another beautiful pass inside 50. If Toddy riled people up then I can't wait to see some of the reactions watching this bloke this year!
Regardless of today, this is totally true. Going to be a lot of people disappointed when they actually watch Luko and separate the reputation from the reality, it will be a huge talking point.

It's really not hard to understand, whether we like it or not, Hinkley is the coach this year. No other answers will come to next year and no other changes will come this year until finals are out of reach.

I liked everything Lord did all game.

No issues there at all.

A nothing workout as far as assessment of overall individual form of players go.

That said our defence is going to to be relying on an outstanding midfield firing every week and that's obvious.

Lord was pretty good, needs to replace Dixon.

Ken Will steady the ship.

When you think about Ken. Reality is he’s gone. It’s a gutless call by Koch. If your going next year you’re done now.

Waste of a year coming up and they are taking my cash each month.

I agree that he's done, but if the options were 1) announce the succession plan now and have a definitive end date for Ken (end of 2025 season) or 2) no succession plan, enter 2025 much like 2023 whereby Ken could still get a contract extension, I'm picking option 1) every day of the week.

The best option of course would have been option 3) sack the bastard at the conclusion of the 2024 season, but the entire Club was too gutless to do that.

Financially he’s done a lot right. Re Ken, hitched his chain to the wagon for too long. Will be his undoing.

Koch has way too many runs on the board irrespective of keeping Ken on for too long. He will remain in his role until he actively chooses to move on.

How Lai go?
Thought he did well. Saw some strong marks and dash. Can see that he's got more AFL traits than Jack Watkins. Although Watkins should be a solid SANFL performer for us.

One thing is for sure, we have assembled a team lacking any sort of respectable mental hard edge. It's full of increasingly unreliable squibs or noodle arm lightweights.

You don't get any level of aura from this pack of mollycoddled manchildren.

I hope this is a just a by product of our current coach, and is fixable or improvable with Carr and a clean out of current assistant coaches would help.

Can we put that on the cheers squads banner round 1.

I didn't watch the entire six quarters but from the bits I saw nothing much has changed, same inefficient Hinkley game plan. There were some good individual performances but based on that game plan we are not going anywhere this year. This year we will be marking time until the Coach in waiting takes over.

I have learned one thing in the past week a trial game is now called a match simulation.

It is pretty hard to be excited this year. We keep hearing how dynamic our forward line will be but the way we crab the ball down the ground on a regular basis is enough to put them to sleep before it gets there.

Of the younger players who didn’t feature last year, Berry holds the most excitement. Almost all of the others pedestrian except for perhaps Walsh. Hoping that Moraes and Lai give us some hope for the future of that midfield which looks more and more like a two and a half trick pony: Butters, JHF and occasional dominant performances by our whinging captain interspersed by disappearance acts. Jackson and Mead (that’s two separate people) don’t move the dial with their recent performances and Lorenz needs to take a big step up.
