Rudest/Nicest player you've met?

It's a fair point you make, "when you met him": you meet anyone on a bad day and they can come across as a tosser.

I met Lou Richards when I was a wee boy at the zoo (neither of us was a resident!), and he wasn't in the mood. I hear from others he was kind and generous. No reason to disbelieve it. Just not to little Cyclops :(

Lou was an interesting character, somehow always allowed others to pick up the tab

Jesaulenko, gentleman, huge hands for a bloke his size

Leigh Colbert and Luke Breust are easily the best of (many) footballers I've met.

Colbert was at 'old' Arden St and saw me and my 2 kids waiting for autographs on their North Melb jumpers.

They were only 9 & 10 and really nervous about going up to these massive guys and asking for a sig.

Leigh comes over, asks their names (lets say Tom and Harry) and asks me if it's ok to take them into the dressing room area.

I follow and LC stands there holding their hands and says 'hey guys - this is Tom and Harry, keen young North supporters, but a bit shy, come and say hello'

He then walked them around, got all the guys there to sign - even made sure they wrote their numbers next the sigs - and made my boys feel really special.

They are grown adults now, but each still has that shirt.

Leigh Colbert is just an outstanding human. He didn't have to do that - he did it because he wanted too.

Luke Breust is the same, met him a couple of times and every time he genuinely seems to value the conversation. Top top bloke.

David King gets a bit of stick - I've met Kingy 3 times now and every time we ended up chatting for ages about Footy / players / life. Always seemed a good guy.

The worst by a country mile - Brad Hill

He was so obnoxiously drunk at Jackpot Bar in Crown Casino. Barging into people, knocking drinks out of punters hands, and just wanting to fight the world.

A fair few Hawks players were there - club minders 'escorted' Hill out of Crown, and told the rest to leave as by that point Hill was pretty much certain to be filled in.

But yeah - Leigh Colbert and Luke Breust - deadset legends.
Interesting I’ve seen Brad hill a few times and he’s been nothing but cheerful and lovely

We all know Lenny is a legend but went to a training once. No one would have seen it. But the ball went over the fence where a little kid wa standing but it bounced back in the field so the kid didn’t get to touch it. I remember Lenny getting the footy and kicking it to the kid over the fence a couple of times, just so the little boy could touch the ball. No one asked for it and the kid wouldn’t have been near old enough to know who Lenny was. Nor did anyone see, but would have made the kids day. What a legend.

You didn't think to report this to authorities?

The Stremple thing is a joke, wouldn't make the top 1000 list of worst things to happen back then. He ended up with a slightly bloody nose. The "ended Stremples career" is a straight up lie since he was on the list another year then traded to another AFL club. Where again he couldn't reach the low professionalism bar of early 90s AFL . EG not turning up to training and games drunk or high.

How about the legendary AFL coach who was prominent into the 2000s who, after his own player was knocked out in the early 80s, followed him out to the carpark being loaded into an ambulance while screaming "You will never play VFL again you weak dog"

Or the AFL legend who the virtue signallers criticising Walls would line up to massage his balls who once beat a teammate into a bloody pulp for turning up to the first training session of the year with what in the 50s was considered, to put it politically correctly "Gay people hair" (shoulder length hair)

I can think of a few things happening now that people in 2050 will be looking back on saying "wtf was wrong with those monsters" but if I write them in 2025 I'll be banned

‘We have to stop or we are going to kill him.’

Seems like a Brownlow medalist thought it was a reasonably serious incident when it was happening, I’m f**ken sorry you see it as virtue signalling just because ‘other stuff happened at the time that was worse.’

F**k me dead

Excuse my ignorance but I can't remember who said that. What would one google to get the story?

This morning Melbourne posted on their facebook a photo of Jake Bowey with his new dog, who he recently rescued through Starting Over Dog Rescue, a group I've been involved with.

That puts him among the very best of AFL players in my book.

That was never said. The actual quote was "I think he's had enough."

The embellished version printed 20 years later by lying Murdoch journalists was just to lure in easily outraged suckers like you. Mission accomplished.

"We have to stop or we are going to kill him ... the guy with the slightly bloody nose who spent the night drinking with his teammates" lol

In a rare occurrence, I was able to make it to a Hawthorn open training session last year. Managed to meet and get signatures for my sons footy from about 3 quarters of the playing group.

The one who stood out the most from a brief interaction was Will Day. It was that smile. That damn smile.

He and Dylan Moore (who are also housemates) come across as the two nicest players at the club in most media appearances. Dylan is our pride ambassador as well, and was nominated for the Jim Stynes award 2 years ago.

Haven't heard a bad thing yet about either bloke.

I bet you write “go woke, go broke” on Facebook comments sections. Absolutely shithouse take.

Johnny Platten was a champ to meet, big smile and loved reliving story's of back in the day.
Still hanging on to that cool hair also (just)..
Platts is a fantastic guy.

Unfortunately he has a huge battle on his hands in respect of the concussions he suffered during his playing days.

He was on TV last year with his partner documenting his situation and he gave his consent to the release of his annual scans and test results which revealed they are getting worse year on year. Is suffering from mood swings and difficulty with memory.

When you remember how good and courageous he was, it was bloody hard to watch.

Leigh Colbert - was behind me in a queue for some bar in the late 90s and he was very friendly to people around him
Jason Dunstall - very friendly to me when I was 14 so I've liked him since
Steven Sziller - very nice guy and remembered me on a subsequent encounter
Trevor Barker - super nice and great with kids
Plugger - didn't say a word
Winmar - always friendly
Sean Charles - snubbed me when I tried to wish him luck for his move to St Kilda

Jimmy Bartel is apparently plain dumb so he can sometimes be quite positive and kind hearted and other times he’s a total self obsessed prick. one of those people who just acts like the people around who are around him.

Lots of those sorts always end up with wives who rinse them. Ryan Crowley very similar on all fronts to young James.

Tony Liberatore is a super nice bloke. Jane O'Donnell was his first wife (Tom's mother?) and Jane's father was my grandma's next door neighbour in Warrnambool. So in mid 1990s Libba came around to our place in Warrnambool and hung out with us for a bit. Tom also came along. And then when we moved to Brisbane, Libba organised for us to go into the Dogs' change rooms at the Gabba (the Dogs were flogged that night, but Libba was just as friendly and generous as if they had won). Top bloke. Not sure the same could be said for Tony, but I've not met him as an adult so can't really say.

So you don't actually know if he is or isn't.
