Same same. But still find it weird they never name the full leadership group, especially with club leadership such a big issue over the last 2 years...

Tbh think our next captain king term is a concern, there is IMO.no obvious candidates on the list.
Rivers would be the front-runner IMO. JVR has said he wants to be captain one day (IIRC), but you'd want him to continue kicking on a bit first.

I believe George Gawn would be next in line in this scenario.

Not meaning to have a crack, but why exactly? Sure, Rivers has improved as a player and is now a very good one, but personally I haven't seen anything from him to make me think of him as a future captain.

Still think it could eventually be Trac. Needs to do damage control this year, but IF (big if, needs to win everyone over again) he does then I would give it to him next year and say 'here ya go mate, YOU make it happen'.

Combination of them putting him in front of the camera more + what I've tried to observe from on-field stuff.

IMO there's no obvious candidate, so that's why I'm speculating. Gawn probably has it this year and next, by which time Trac (if he's still here) will be 31. Age aside, Trac's the ultimate professional with his preparation, but on-field can still get in his own head too much. Not sure that would translate to great on-field leadership, as much as I like him.

That's all fair enough.

I guess I just like the idea of calling Trac out in a way and telling him to back up his words with actions.

Rivers would definitely not be ready to be captain by 2027 IMO. Was he even in the leadership group last year and/or the year before? (Hard to know cos apparently it's a secret)

If Trac ever did become captain he'd only be in there for a year or two. Would very much be a stop gap option while one of the younger guys is groomed for the role. We probably don't really know who our next long term captain will be for a few years.

He's currently contracted until end of 2029 - If he was to become captain next year he could then be captain for 4 years potentially.

I'm not wedded to the idea though. More just want to call him out.

He'd really have to be putting his hand up for it this year to be getting the gig next year. Heard the reports that he's re-embraced the club but we'll see how that pans out when the season is underway.

Isn't Lever lauded for his leadership?

Please god, no. Speaking of on-field meltdowns

Captain Sparrow next for the funny name and the melts

I'll take one year of it just to see people collectively lose their shit for a season

Yep, has a ton of work in front of him to win everyone back this year IMO.

I think Trac would be a horrible captain

Why does he need to win everyone back?
Possibly because despite the media spin (no doubt drafted by Trac’s manager) of “I’m not apologising for trying to make the club better”, he apparently went about ‘making the club better’ by trying to get himself and his brand a trade to a big club. I don’t blame him for trying to leave, but nobody other than those that swallow the crafted media messages thinks those at the club have entirely forgotten.

The all for one and one for all narrative probably had some reality around when the team were partying right after the premiership, but no group of forty odd people are genuinely going to be best buddies with no cliques, no resentments. Trac is a great player and by all accounts an elite and professional trainer - but he’s not the only person on that team who is. He just gets fussed over more because he is also very talented and built like three Volkswagen Beetles stuffed in a sack.

So now you get one of the highest paid players who is earning likely four times that through endorsements, and 10 times that of some of the others. Sure everyone knows why, but you can’t think for a moment these situations don’t cause problems in the locker room. Buckley spoke well about this on a radio show last year.

This is just one of the reasons why I think it would be a terrible idea to make him captain - whether true or not it would look as though he can hold his club to ransom.

The other reasons are that he is thick as a post, and while he has matured in his approach to his football, it ends there. I listened to one of those Gus and Gawny podcasts with trac a few years back. He’s silly as a snake.
