It's not your colleagues' jobs to make your life easier, it's your management's.
If you cannot do the bare minimum by showing up to work on time and leaving when you're supposed to rather than early, you don't deserve your jon.
Rather than whinging about it, lodge a complaint
Oh, management are well and truly aware.
Nah
People should pull their weight at work or f*k off
Absolutely. I get to an extent the most important person in your life is yourself, but at work, when you're part of a team, that isn't always the case.

Just one of these people who will cruise along in a government job doing the bare minimum knowing she can't ever get sacked.

Pulling your weight is doing your job, not doing others jobs. If that person isn't doing their job and it's causing others to have to do extra, that's not pulling their weight.

Provided they're getting everything done they're employed to do, they are pulling their weight.

If they're arriving late/leaving early, that's clearly a separate issue (in most jobs - personally mine doesn't care).

Hmmm don’t agree sorry
If a person has time to look at their phone/ computer , chat to whom ever , whenever etc just because they have supposedly done their job Then that’s not a team player .

There’s always something else to do and if you can help the rest of the team all the better

Yeah that's fine, I don't disagree with that.

Just think you've misused the term 'pulling your weight'. What you've just described is going above and beyond rather than pulling their weight.

Perhaps but what I’ve described is what I expect as an employer and what I have always given as an employee in the past
And I’m pretty sure that would be the norm for most workplaces

Have you worked in small or big business?

I've worked in both, you're far more likely to see what you've described in small business than you are in big business.

Corporates are more siloed so not really a place where "everyone pitches in", I've worked at smaller Aussie firms and that's the case generally speaking. Even at a corporate though it's important to have good internal relationships and help others when you can, not to be virtuous but it makes your role easier.

People with shit work ethic and who are only in it for themselves.

One of my colleagues is consistently late, and always leaves a few minutes early most days. Sits in first aid (I work in a school office) and doesn't come out when we are getting pumped.

We were two down this morning and getting absolutely pumped from all angles (school photos and Y7 camp today), phones were going bonkers, more foot traffic etc etc. She is just sitting in first aid doing God knows what.

Another colleauge told me she was talking on her phone as well. Come on man, get ****ed.

Then about half an hour before we knock off she goes into the library and has a chat with the people in there. **** off.
Had the same type of co worker,
He had snacks hidden in a stock location,
Waited to everyone's busy serving customers and come out and ask if anyone is waiting?

Things not getting done is how you show them that they need more hands and/or need to reprioritise.
maybe
maybe they arent pulling their weight and extra staff isnt actually required
what is required is to stop being a lazy campaigner

I think your comment is particularly wild in the context of an economy where we're all on the bones of our arses due to cost of living, while the people who purchase our labour as cheaply as they can, cost of living be damned, are rolling in cash. (Who ever could've predicted that trickle down economics still doesn't work?!)
not wild at all
not everyone is on the bones of their ass either.

For those playing along at home;

I spoke to IT as well who also has issues with this colleague.

He has said she has literally hid under the library desk (she's 50 mind you), to avoid being seen so she can keep talking.

I was gobsmacked.

Ha, no way she'd sleep at work, she's too eager to get home before she is supposed to finish!
Sounds comical if it wasn't such a pain in the arse. 🤦‍♂️
When he told me, we kept talking and I actually said to him a few minutes later, sorry I can't get past she sits under the desk. What the actual ****. He mentioned to my manager as well that she comes to the library every day around 3.15 until end of day to just talk.

It's something I'd expect from a year 9. Not someone with a full time job who is middle aged.

Take the piss. Give her a blanket or a cushion for when she goes under the desk.
