It’s not the end of the world. We have talent and seemingly the right people addressing an appropriate vision right now. Innes’ value not withstanding because it’s such a small sample size to assess.

A bit of luck from the injury gods will go a long way too.

Yup definitely not the end of the world.
It’s more imo we need to just balance the style out a little better. Like u say, seems like the club is slowly turning things the other way somewhat

It's not just, in one off season, it's over a longer period where we have ignored available talent, either through the draft or via trades

We haven't drafted a 1st round tall since 2015

We haven't really addressed pace over a similar period

While I've loved the hardness of the likes of Hewett, Kennedy, etc, you can only carry so many of these types

Our list is strong, but it's still lacking in balance

You & I debated this 2 yrs ago. Have you come around to my thinking?

I've never swayed with what I have stated as to our needs, for at least 5 years

KPD, speed/agility, better ball users

And now, over the next 2 years, we will need to start drafting the next generation of KPFs

We have talent but perhaps we just play to their strengths... when it works its great but when teams get it on their terms we suffer. Our f50 leaks when it comes to ground, we are slow on defensive transition snd despite our bulk we are not a good clearance team. We need to find a way to collectively defend and get some speed on the ball moving forward. The long bomb stuff which we have done for years is baby football

TDK would be the Franklin type drawcard that would appeal to a club like Sydney.

WCE would be expecting more than just Warner to let Harley Reid go, maybe a first round pick and Warner from Swans?

Knee injury for ZB & he’s going to miss the start of the season. TBC how many games.

Interesting that ESS is giving their high draft picks a run in the middle with good results in the pre-season in Hobbs & Tsatas.

Is someone on here able to explain to me why Carlton has the worst academy in the league and they do absolutely 0 about it? Watching Kako last night made me sick.

We’ve invested heavily the last few years from what I’ve seen. This is so completely reactionary, he still has 0 games and 0 goals to his name in his career so far. There’s still a long way to go

We have three promising NGA academy kids available to us in this year's deaft. Jack Ison who is tracking well as a189cm third defender, Tyson Gresham a small forward like his brother and Mingara Clark who is another indigenous kid at 185 cm. Hopefully all three progress to getting drafted this year.

To get compensation that was worth anything decent, we would need to finish bottom 3rd of the ladder, i dont see that happening.

I have been pushing this for a while, it’s not so much that our zone is crap, it’s that our club has dropped the ball. Go and google the Danniher squad and the James Hird academy which is the Bombers NGA and F/S squads and then search for ours, you will see straight away a club that has invested effort and then there’s ours.

My friend has a son in the Danniher squad and his eldest was in it two years ago, by his reports its a very well run squad which has spots assigned to them in the Cannons squad.

We have one of the premier football school in the state in our zone, we use their facilities but as far as im aware they dont do scholarships and we dont have any say on how the Knights squad is set up.

If we want a strong academy we actually need to invest in it, our zone is a good size with lots of strong leagues and a strong football school, we should be doing better.
