Looking forward to round 1. We’ll be a bit more experienced. Lynch and Lalor will help in 2 areas. Expect better kicking for goal and less mistakes in defence for a start. Less inexperience and a stronger midfield.

22 should be

Short Blight Broad
Smith Miller Vlaustin
Campbell Taranto Banks
Ross Fawcett Lalor
Rioli Lynch Green
Nankervis Hopper Mcauliff
Brown Trezise Mansell McIntosh Ryan
Get miller out of that side he a liability. Grey would be a far better option

We don't have any outside midfielders with speed, one paced Clydesdales is what we got.
Agreed, it’ll be a focus in this year’s ND.
Hotton has some serious wheels, but won’t be seeing him anytime soon.
Maybe give Seth, MRJ an occasional run in the midfield. Nothing to lose this year by throwing the magnets around.

The players selected have not had a consistent number of games due to various factors.

If they had been able to play uninterrupted our side would look different.
I have liked sonsies kicks inside 50 hitting targets. I think he hit Green up. JG's role? with the middle minutes. Banks just doesn't scream play me.
We famously left JVR on the table over elite kick Brown. JVR been kicking 1.4 goals a game. I remember McStay being a 1.5 goal 2nd forward.

Banks I'm afraid will fall into that Naish category of having all the tools but just being too small and too timid. Watched him a number of times just hover around the ball instead of picking it up and accepting contact. He's got this year to stake a claim.

we laid 47 tackles, 4 of which were from first gamer Harry Armstrong, 2 to Luke Trainor who played 40% ToG and 2 to McAulliffe who played 15% ToG.

We also had 11 tackles inside 50 which is a great number. last year we were getting 2, 3 and 4 in a lot of games. Just need to then convert them into scoring chances.

Can we improve in the area? Most definitely!

Were there Pies players breaking tackles that led to goals? Yep there was, and when you see it's experienced players letting them through it is frustrating.

The unfortunate reality is most other teams already have a firm structure, playstyle, understanding and cohesion in place that can in turn catch us a bit more flat footed while we try and find our own feet.

I would hope that this part of the game improves as the year goes on and everyone has a better understanding of who does what and where.
Collingwood layed 61 tackles and they had the ball more. They over 100 uncontested marks. Our pressure was abysmal.

Agree with you on the inside 50 tackles especially when Armstrong laid 4!! That’s great.

But seriously the coaching staff needs to be letting players know that if they don’t tackle they don’t play.

correct...
this draft is the one that has most hurt us with the current line up (putting aside the 2020 draft which will hurt us)
Brown= tick
Gibcus & Judson - hurts with the injuries- and I mean really hurts!
Banks & Sonsie = well the jury's out on them.

The melts by some in here are generationally hilarious

Will we suck this year and probably next year? Yes.

Did we come up against an extremely experienced team who has largely been together now for 4-5 years? Yes.

Do we have a bunch of spuds being played through necessity right now? Yes.

Do we have a bunch of really talented young kids who will get fast tracked due to being able to play? Yes.

If the likes of Lalor, Smillie, Hotton, Armstrong, etc stay relatively healthy and get games under their belts, plus whoever else we pick up..... we are going to be an amazing team in a few years, stay patient and enjoy the ride you snowflakes.

I think we need to look at it as 2 halves though.

The first half where we were in the game, moving the ball well and playing how we want / intend to play, our pressure was actually pretty good.

That is the plan we are working to and what we are trying to build on to become more consistent.

The second half yes the wheels totally fell off and we were close to witches hats.

That’s unfortunately a byproduct of a young inexperienced side and we need to accept that’s going to happen a bit these next 2 years.

What I’m more keeping an eye on though, is when we are playing and executing to how we want to try and play (1st half) how does that look and how effective is that proving to be.

And if it wasn’t for our inaccuracy we could have very well been in the lead.

I think it’s also somewhat positive that despite that initial onslaught at the start of the 3rd the pies didn’t do any more damage after that point either

Our coaching staff pull the trigger to flood and stem the bleeding
Sure it meant that our already low chances of scoring without Lynch or other avenues to goal became almost zero but it the context of strategy it shows a change in the game plan to change things up

Do we think this could be due to the new training method of repeat high speed instead of overall endurance?

It's a worry...

I.7 at one stage.. sadly Green, Fawcett and others missed set shots. No Lynch up there and the Hopper good game, short having a million metres gained is a great stat but same problem as last year. The young KPF have to kick goals. In one way we had a lot of inside 50. Need better quality one's. I noticed sonz hitting up Green with a nice kick. I think mrj might have hit up someone too. Some good football leading to Bauer's goal. No where near enough.. Kmac did well in the middle, took some time from Taranto.
Be interesting to see if Miller survives. Ryan has to be bench ruck. If Gray and kosi are kpd in the VFL. Lynch for Sims and Fawcett

This would only be a worry if overall distance within a session was low

They would still be clocking high km’s per session it would just be done at higher speeds not low and slow

I think most are accepting we will be shit this year but looking forward to the young guns.
BUT I cant accept us playing spuds like Ryan, miller and Dow…. We have seen enough and have other kids he deserve a go.

No it's due to having a bunch of players in the team that don't have AFL hardened bodies or fitness yet

It's the same reason why tackle numbers are low, going to have to get used to teams breaking through our attempted tackles for the next couple of years

None of this should be a surprise to anyone who old enough to remember when the Cotchin class was all debuting

One of my favourite cliche sayings as a coach was 'bad kicking is bad football!'

Not the method of training. Repeat sprints is a fairly standard training approach. Unusual that we weren't doing it too much.

More likely is that they didn't have an easier session coming into the game, like you'd usually do. Just treat the game as a 'normal' training drill and accept that the player will run out of legs. Plus younger players and you get what we got. If it keeps happening in real games then trouble. But right now I go 'preseason'.

Agree - he is shit scared of contact.

According to afl stats Banks got 21 disposals and the second most metres gained and managed to help keep the Collingwood smalls reasonably quiet. What more did you expect from him?
