Banks I'm afraid will fall into that Naish category of having all the tools but just being too small and too timid. Watched him a number of times just hover around the ball instead of picking it up and accepting contact. He's got this year to stake a claim.

Agree, think I actually recall that exact passage of play, I even yelled pick up the damn ball. Also, there was a play when the pies had the ball, and he went to lay a tackle and to me it looked weak. Pies player brushed his attempt off like swatting a fly away and run around him.

If he really wants a career as a player, then he needs to start gritting his teeth a bit and go in harder, seems to have the skill.

The melts by some in here are generationally hilarious

Will we suck this year and probably next year? Yes.

Did we come up against an extremely experienced team who has largely been together now for 4-5 years? Yes.

Do we have a bunch of spuds being played through necessity right now? Yes.

Do we have a bunch of really talented young kids who will get fast tracked due to being able to play? Yes.

If the likes of Lalor, Smillie, Hotton, Armstrong, etc stay relatively healthy and get games under their belts, plus whoever else we pick up..... we are going to be an amazing team in a few years, stay patient and enjoy the ride you snowflakes.

You say melts, i say constructive criticism. The club just seems to be doing the same thing we did last year, I see no sets up different and the same players in the same positions they failed at last year.

This isn't about our new recruits, we all know they are going to take time to settle. They aren't Daicos or Reid so will take time.

This is about our coaches picking the same failed players & the players who we have had now in the system for a few years, the 2021 guys for example who just don't look to have improved at all. Brown might be the only one, but he is not A grade.

You say we have to play a bunch of spuds, well i say why do we have to play them and why are they still on our list then if they are spuds? Internally the club doesn't see them as spuds and still think they are the answer.

Hill 4 Elliot 2
Firstly, Broad seemed to be playing on Hill early. Second, one of Elliot's goals was a gimme and apart from that he had a fairly quiet night. The real problem was that the ball was coming in so easily and the Collingwood mids were running forward harder than our midfielders were running defensively, so matching up on a Collingwood forward just meant that another player would be free. Seems to me people are blaming your defenders for the lack of effort up the ground

Agree with both of you. It was very noticeable earlier in his career, looked like he worked through it last season but have seen some concerning signs this preseason - unfortunately it seems as though it will be something he has to keep working on, just too timid

On our current list, who would you have replaced, what currency would you have used to replace them, and who do you think we would have got with that currency?

For starters Ryan, Miller & Dow would not be selected. Unfortunately, our club seems to think they are the answer, and only time will make it all better.

More game time into McAuliffe & Trainor is a no brainer. Would have played Gray or even bloody Kosi instead of Miller, at least with Kosi we haven't tried him down back properly yet. Preseason game would have been perfect instead of a real game. I would have rotated our mids better than just thinking Taranto, Hopper & Ross would get the job done.

We have plenty of options to try in a preseason game, could have put Rioli on the ball for a bit for example, seeing how he isn't a small forward, Sonsie played a little on the ball but we could have mixed it up even more. Could have given Sims more time up forward, 24% TOG is why bother stuff.

I could go on, but you seem content with what we tried to do so I'm not going to bother convincing you any further.

Instead of just lining up like we did all last year playing the same people in the same positions. The result or final scoreline was irrelevant, would have been nice to see something different or try something else.

I kind of get why Miller is there. Yesterday's practice match was Gray's first game playing in defence, and Kosi didn't do much at all.

Balta, Gibcus and probably Young would all play ahead of Miller if available, but they're not.

some of us are realistic with what we are watching and expecting to see.

Absolutely…most posters here admitted that we would only win 1-3 games thisseason

However …we lose a meaningless practice match…and FMD….the clubs on fire, sack Yze…players are shite…we are in free fall

It ain’t pretty…but we will get there..trust the process …it’s a trial and error season

This would only be a worry if overall distance within a session was low

They would still be clocking high km’s per session it would just be done at higher speeds not low and slow
we'll see the tracker running numbes round 1

Tassie Devils will come sniffing around and offer us something worthwhile

Worked ok for Houli and short soft as butter he might end up the same as a hb has a beautiful kick.

Collingwood layed 61 tackles and they had the ball more. They over 100 uncontested marks. Our pressure was abysmal.

Agree with you on the inside 50 tackles especially when Armstrong laid 4!! That’s great.

But seriously the coaching staff needs to be letting players know that if they don’t tackle they don’t play.
This stat is last season all over again. We lost both the disposal and tackle count 13 times last season. All of them were losses. Most of the larger losses featured this stat.

It’s not a good sign. I think it’s because we’re so slow that we can’t get separation from the opposition when we have the ball. When the opposition has the ball though, they can put some distance on us. Also, our tackling technique is still bad and our decision-making needs improvement. We still put teammates under pressure through bad decision-making.

I think it’s just a mixture of all this together. We need to improve on this.

I mean.... again.....

We didn't have our top 4 Draft picks out there....

We didn't Have Lynch, or Balta playing....

We lost Rioli... Martin... Bolton.. baker.. Graham... Lambert... Pickett..

And yet at half time had more/same score involvements and inside 50's

Yes it's going to be a long year, but what The heck you people expecting????
They’ll be sunnier days ahead , what’s git lost in translation is that our f50 that contained 5/6 that had barely played 10 games were up against a premiership defence that incl several AA players and quaynor , no wonder were beaten for griund ball , not every opponent is so blessed in defense
51 entries would have us competitive most times ,,, lynch and Balta crucial pieces for a more competitive effort

Yep should be tackling like khamakazi pilots / pressure , even if a practice match .
