the 2025 season hasn't yet started and already there is talk of how shoddy the draft is and how the AFL compromises it to suit agendas. It is ridiculous that fans think and talk in this way but you can't blame them.
The AFL draft is as convoluted as the Australian Tax system and just as open to "manipulation" 😜

The more complex you make a system by adding special exceptions like these academies or NGAs the more open it becomes to rorting and then the governing body (AFL) makes the rules even more complex to compensate and it just keeps getting worse and worse (in other words a right royal cluster 🦆).

As the old saying goes "Any fool can make something complicated, it takes a genius to make it simple".

I'm not sure the AFL has heard that particular quite though 😬

And they dance around their lies (everyone can see through the bullshit) and then speak double-dutch trying to convince themselves more than anyone else in the process.

The thing is that for the AFL to "screw" us, they'd have to make a change that would disadvantage the Northern clubs even more than us. I think that's unlikely. I'm not sure they can find a way for us to not take Greeves without a big uproar from other vic-based clubs about the favouritism for the northern.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It shows what an advantage Sydney, etc have. Hawthorn potentially has access to one early pick, after never having one this good before to go this early for an academy player, and there is perceived controversy around it. While the fact Sydney has access to a whole 'haul' of promising academy players once again is just mentioned matter of factly towards the end of the article.

Do you remember Longmire giving a offended interview when we got Newcombe, it was along the lines of it being unfair that we had the inside track.

Mark Williams was my first proper favourite player as a kid. I'll be shattered if he's up to AFL footy and goes through the Dogs NGA.
If he’s good enough & we want him, then it’ll be his choice whether he plays with us or them.

Same as Coop Hodge

The AFL will sign off on it but with a caveat in place. Draft capital at a minimum. Could part with good picks just to sign him up. They will see it as nobody being disadvantaged. Watch what happens.
Do this and they've backflipped on last year's change that saw Kako land at the Dons.
Wont happen.

So AFL will maintain existing rules?
