...for the AFL to make a decision on whether the Brisbane v Geelong game goes ahead as planned on Thursday night?

For those who don't know there is a good possibility that Brisbane will be hit by a cyclone on Thursday. The AFL is deferring making a decision on the game going ahead or not, with no actual deadline being reported for that decision to be made.

Personally I think it should be done ASAP, and no later than tomorrow. With Brisbane and Geelong both having a bye in round 3 a solution presents itself immediately.

This match is the season opener and if it is severely affected by weather it's not great a look.

It's also the match in which Brisbane plan to unfurl their 2024 premiership flag. Surely the club and its supporters deserve some certainty regarding this going ahead or not.

Just poor by the AFL again... another Dillon and Kane debacle looms IMHO.

Well at 10am tomorrow the cyclone is supposed to turn and head towards Brisbane. How they predicted this 48 hours before it happened when they can't even get the temperature within 5 degrees of correct I'm not sure. But I assume the call will be made then. If the storm turns towards Brisbane, they will cancel the game. If it continues on its way or turns somewhere else it will go ahead.

The AFL have slipped a bit these past couple of years, this game should be immediately postponed and rescheduled now! It's completely insane to have a team flying into a Cyclone area, reschedule it, we my have not liked what Gil was doing all the time, but Dillon is pretty much useless. Make a decision today!

Why couldn't the game be moved to Sunday night prime time? I think that would be better than moving it to round 3.

I agree on Dillon and Kane though, they can't make a decision to save themselves. Dillon is the most conservative leader in afl history.

Because it will be monsoonal rain and squalls after it crosses the coast for days.

It doesn't just stop within a day after crossing the coast.

They will be on flood alert.

Final decision Wed morning before Cats fly out is my guess. 1-2 days forecasts are very accurate.

Not with cyclones.

Very unpredictable the path they take.

If it stays 30+ km off the coast Brisbane will be fine. The system sucks all the weather into it leaving blue sky's and sunshine 30 to 40 km away.

Seen this several times when cyclones brush past Darwin.

So a tad embarrassing making an early call and come kick off its perfect weather.

this makes no sense, why do you need to know TODAY??? and they aren't "flying into a cyclone" do you actually think that would happen

My grandparent come Australia on boat ****ing

Good country Australia! Very boat friendly

Take boat to game, swim to game

Australia win many medal in the swim, very good swimmers ****ing

Hapless, the decision should have already been made.

Swap the games around, Brisbane home game in round 15. A nice little 2 home game run for Brissie heading into their bye.

C7 just reporting that the AFL is prepared to leave it until game day to make a decision if they have to, ****ing useless.
