Autopsy Some promising signs but Hawks too good

Pretty disappointing to put it mildly

Not sure how we do it without some intercepting and structure-but alas no good talls

Shout out to Chad who's elite

Credit to Amartey always getting better

Wicks wants a spot

Grundy lifted

Not sure why the boys didn't want it more from the whistle

Played for qtr which made the margin stay lower than it really should.

Wicks was good

Amartey did his job

Melican good for 3 qtrs

Too many passengers and not enough intensity. Too many senior players not leading and we seem to be missing that on field general.

Going to lower my expectations a bit more and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

Gus did far call. Florent had a mare. Corey average. Grundy looks cooked. Rampe too.

I don't know, the energy wasn't there except of 15 minutes in the third.

Anyway I'm not really upset. Didn't expect a good year and this was always on the cards. 0-3 possibly. Losing gulden is a big hole to fill. Last year was a waste.

I'd rather a tough start and be forced to find some resilience before building into the second half of the year. I'd rather we have the attitude of nothing to lose rather than having everything to lose like last year. Brisbane were in a gnarly spot last year but ultimately found their identity.

Postive is we responded once we lost the arm wrestle, with an undergunned team. I actually think we would've cantered home if the heavens didn't open up.

Not much shame in dropping. Felt this was a big game on the calendar for the hawks to set the tone for the year with high expectations. They looked impressive and belted us around the ball in that first half, defended well late and deserved the choccies.

Bit of good and bad from us. Wicks defender tick, 3rd quarter surge was great and put us in a position to win. Ball movement and contested stuff really improved. Jordon should've went on Day earlier I feel. Their talls absolutely killed us at either end too, something like 25-5 intercept marks ain't going to gain you much territory.

Rushed our use late in the game killed it, went for alot of low % shots at goal. Defensive pressure and missed tackles in the first half remains a big issue too.

Lost it in the first half but stings to get so close in the 3rd. Amartey was really good looks set for a strong year. Really didn't enjoy him in the ruck though.. Papley and Grundy rusty hopefully better for the run. Sheldrick overawed by the pressure but hopeful he'll grow from the added responsibility. Wicks was sensational, thats a man whos REALLY playing for his spot.

Too many players with bits and pieces. McInerney fading in and out.. Very concerned about the gaping hole that Gulden leaves.

The rain couldn't have come at a worse time, that and the Florent turnover killed any chance.

How can you call a 10 min patch a response when that's the first game after a GF humiliation under a new generation

7 hours of review comes up with a lack of tackling pressure being one of the biggest issues. First opportunity to right that wrong and we not only get smashed in clearances in the first half but show **** all tackling pressure. The players are either incapable or just ****ing stupid.

Apart from the spoken about positional changes, I saw nothing much to suggest a significant shift away from our previous game plan. My hope for a fresh start with Cox seems to be as wayward as an Ollie Florent kick across goal.

Sad.

Grundy was a bit better in the last so I will cling to that, but and Rampe look ready for retirement. Rampe at 35 is a massive ask to keep contributing/

Mccartin gave us something forward but think ends up back longer term.

Wicks was great. Melican ok. But lizard is lost with the new structure imo, Cox has cut one of his weapons down a bit.

Amartey was good

paps tried

Heeney and Warner in patches ok

But everything was patchy as **** really.

Adams finally went into it and got injured that’s a ****en bad sign/

Sheldrick went from board favourite to whipping boy quick, just keep expectations realistic, unless he is injured he stays.

I think Amartey can’t second ruck, but if Grundy can’t first ruck then wow Cox has a problem.

We won’t beat Brisbane playing like that.

I named a bunch of players in the game day thread, but Campbell and Hayward were 2 I was really disappointed in. Hayward only had an impact in the 3rd quarter which isn't good enough for senior player. Campbell didn't have an impact at all which just isn't good enough at this point in his career.

Players like Sheldrick and Warner Jr I can forgive because they're still new to the team.

Rampe was shit but he's old and we can't and shouldn't be relying on him anymore - there were warning signs last year.

Florent was dreadful but at least he showed signs that he could impact the game, just made dumb errors.

In terms of positive - Wicks was outstanding and Amartey was very good. Melican was mostly solid. McInerney had some good moments but didn't get enough of the footy. Not much outside of that which suggests it's probably a good sign that we were right in it up until the last, so that's something I guess.
