We'll pick the best team, but think he'll get a fair few games.
If Fly wants to emulate Ross Lyon circa 2009-2011 at the Saints he won’t pick Allan much this year
I said a month ago Pendles would not be suited to the high octane pace and weather of these early rounds but no one listened

You mean the second best period in the 150 year history of St Kilda football club?

Coaching staff didn’t learn from last year either.
TBF, who are the alternatives?
Houston or Markov in would free up Crispy….

Absolutely
But totally ignored youth and their list hasn’t recovered since
Playing kids is great if you've got the right kids.

Who are the blokes that Ross held back that would have kept them up the ladder if they only had've played an extra 30 games in those years?

Spot on , play them if you have the right kids.

St Kilda dominated those few years without a flag. Hardly think not playing kids cost them. Not playing Luke Ball and not keeping him on the other hand, definitely cost them.

Media and fans and oppo supporters can bang on all they like, im still backing the clubs made the right decisions of a win now attitude despite the first round fall out.

Elliott > Hayes - Harvey Harrison
Howe > Jiath - Ryan - Cochran
Sidey > Wil Parker??
Checkers > West
Titch > Ed Allan -
Cox > Smitt - Steene
Pendles > Ed Allan

Hard part will be not exposing them all at once.

I look back at 2021 and think thank god we played the kids and got games into:

Tom Wilson, Poulter, Tohill, Ruscoe, Rantall, Macrae, Lynch, Keane, Brown, Brown and Bianco. It really accelerated their progress and set us up for the flag in 2023.

And the later years of Tony Shaw when we got games into Wild, Godden and co.

Even if the BF community had listened to you, oh wise one, it wouldn't have made any difference to the people with the power to make changes - the club's coaching staff.

Baring injury he already looks like he will be at minimum going forward an okay to good midfielder.
But he could be elite if it clicks for him. Agree with a few posters that we need to pump games into him. Probably from the bench but that's fine.

I think we need his running. At least in the early part of the season. Think he'll hold his spot for a while. Hopefully he's good enough to keep hold of it.

I think the main point here isn't about playing rubbish kids, but about drafting / acquiring good ones. We've regularly traded away our early picks over the last 10-12 years.

It is usually when you're talking about coaches not playing the kids and when it's become a given that Ross Lyon stuffed up by not playing the kids - despite none of them popping up later as quality players. In fact the ones he played - like the Clarke boys weren't much chop - let alone the ones he didn't play.

Apart from Perryman I thought he was our best mid on Sunday. The worst thing we could do would be to drop him and retain our Dads Army members at least one of whom could have been politely asked to retire over the past 2 years.

I might be greedy but I couldn't help being impressed with Longs little cameo. I wouldn't be against both he and Allen holding their spot. It probably unbalances us a bit but Long has definitely improved

I don't mind Long; however, I wouldn't read to much into Long's game - it was a quarter and a half when everyone else was cooked.

I just thought I saw better version than last year. The cameo performances can be misleading and I would imagine he'll still have to bide his time. He just caught my eye a bit, but then again it might just be my bung eye

Agree he has been better this year but he was the sub, so probably the logical out if not this week than definitely when DeGoey comes back.

I like the underdog and if he was a chosen one the whole board would be demanding a full game based on that quarter - so go hard manic.

Tom Lynch had a good career in Adelaide

Crisp wants to play until 40. The joint has lost the plot

I thought Ed played well on the weekend. Didn’t seem overawed by GWS’ pressure, good awareness of what’s going on around him, didn’t shrink from GWS’ constant niggling, good hands in close and just seems like he knows his role. Deserves to stay in the side. Houston and possibly JDG back puts the squeeze on for selection a bit but very promising.

Dont have to worry about de goey until next week so he should retain his place at least this week. Then deal with round 2 when it comes
