Richmond you have shocked the world!

A result no one expected, all the more impressive by the fact nearly half of the players had played less than 30 games and Richmond were fielding 3 tiger cubs. A coming of age game for sure for Jack Ross who should cement his spot in the midfield this year. Jacob Blight negated Harry McKay in the first half showing strong signs in only his 4th game and the rest of the defensive group gave their all. This is all not to mention Sam Lalor's spectacular performance. He was arguably the most impactful offensive player on ground featuring numerous score involvements and 2 goals. Luke Trainor impressed in defence with his composure under pressure and Harry Armstrong looked promising up front. Even maligned players such as Miller and Dow gave 110% tonight in what was an amazing all-round performance by the team.

I would be perfectly content if this was Richmond's sole win for this season after this showing. Besides the fact that Carlton were defeated soundly in the end, the fight and pressure on display by the young kids was excellent. Who knows after another season of experience where the team could be. One could dream of a resurgent Richmond in the coming seasons following the recent example of Hawthorn's journey up the ladder and competing again. GO TIGES!

Just got home from the game... best round 1 win I can remember. Had to head back to the MRC after the game and we were singing the song up there too. Had no expectations going in other than hoping for effort. Certainly got effort, even in the first half but our execution was poor. Thank goodness for Sammy's mark in what was otherwise looking bleak.

The last 10 or so minutes before half time though and we just were annoying enough to hang around and then eventually the Blooze pooped themselves.

So many highlights - stoked with the efforts of the debutants especially the way Harry competed. He is going to find it tough all year given the men he'll be playing against but he didn't look over-awed, he'll start clunking a few after 30 games or so. Lalor is obviously class (better than Dusty overhead - reminds me of Lids-like hands) and I think we've stolen one with Train - absolute jet.

For the other boys - Ross played his best game for the club, Miller and Blight were pretty solid, Nank was immense (even though TDK got a bit of it), Kamdyn just did Kamdyn things and made it harder for Cripps at times. Mansell, Seth, Steeley provided pressure we haven't seen for a while.

A win over the Scum in round 1 - so bloody good!

At 49-8 and 32-11 inside-50’s it looked all the world like a 15-goal smashing.

My greatest day/night at the football since the 2019 PF … and this includes the 2019 GF which was an absolute cakewalk.

And I’ve been critical of the decision to play Macca in midfield but credit where it’s due tonight - I know he’ll drive me crazy multiple times this year but I’ll never forget his role in my greatest night at the footy in 6 years, so his brain fades will be forgiven for a few months at least !.

And well done to Miller and Dow who’ve been smashed on here for years - great game from Miller and fantastic second half from Dow with 9 touches and 5 tackles in the last quarter alone.

Amazing win from 49-8 down with a bunch of kids. Just amazing.
