Swoop Luke makes the case for Ed very well and backs it with stats.
Ed will play in my opinion. Someone is injured and Ed will step in. I think it will be Josh. We shall see

Josh wont play there. You'll find come game day, he will be swapped with perryman on field.Josh named in the centre, I think he’ll be ok.
Allan will get back in, just not this week.

Maybe so, but the fact he is named in the starting 18 gives me hope he will play.Josh wont play there. You'll find come game day, he will be swapped with perryman on field.
I guess there always has to be a 7th defender on the bench, but yeah, I thought that too. About Howe. We'll see how he goes in today's captain's run.Maybe so, but the fact he is named in the starting 18 gives me hope he will play.
Howe on the other hand still looks shaky
Of course, stats like possessions can be misleading, but pressure acts indicate a player's intensity and willingness to compete, and he was ranked fourth for pressure acts.Stats don't tell us about his instructions and positioning - nor do they show how effective he was in terms of contest and defence. It's a pressure act if you're flat footed, let your opponent get a break and then chase them futilely.
Not necessarily. They measure chasing, corralling, closing, tackling - not how intensely that's done or how or why you're in that position.Of course, stats like possessions can be misleading, but pressure acts indicate a player's intensity and willingness to compete, and he was ranked fourth for pressure acts.
But we all have eyes. Not up to it? And Ned Long is? I've followed the game long enough to know that being an AFL coach or assistant is no proof of infallibility when it comes to selection and recruiting. We've all had times where we have been screaming for a positional move to be made all through a game and then the coach finally makes the move late in the game and it pays off. And you wonder what in the hell they were watching for them to take so long to do the bleeding obvious.Domus, do you honestly think he knows more than any of our coaches? I’m a little disappointed Allan was dropped to, but I won’t pretend like I know more than the coaches. We all want him to succeed but perhaps maybe he’s just not up to it yet.
There’s def been conversations behind closed doors and he will know what he needs to improve on
That Allan gets dropped while the 36 yo Scott Pendlebury is nursed to an AFL games record is an indictment of a bewildering club list strategy that begun with the recruitment of Schultz and continues to this day with the recruitment of Membrey. Fly's statement that he wants players, not draft picks, will hurt the club for the next five years until we start rejuvenating the list with high quality draft picks such as the ones that Richmond picked up and contributed to their win against Carlton.
"It really did come down to role. I'm desperate to keep Ed in the team. I openly go to match committee saying 'nah, we're going to play Ed Allan'. We want Ed Allan to make it in our team and he'll play games, guaranteed he'll be playing games when he's playing his role and things. This week, we brought [Lachie] Sullivan in to play a different role and ultimately it came down to that. It's a tough decision too. I sweat on those ones, they keep me up at night. We want Ed to make it in our team".
Flys rational, fact based reason seems the best oneSo lots of opinions here on why Allan was dropped. Now we have Fly’s version, from the post game presser -
What was your decision making around omitting Ed Allan from the team?
It was always just a team balance decision. Ed struggled when put in the midfield but played most of the game on the wing, where he played quite well.So lots of opinions here on why Allan was dropped. Now we have Fly’s version, from the post game presser -

Go to the AFL app and check out the tracker section:I know there are alot of Lippa lovers on here but I reckon Allan should be playing his role. Can't do much worse and has a higher ceiling. Can't see Lippa improving much and Allan can be anything.

Lipinski covered the most KMs of any player (both teams)
2nd most high speed KMs
Top 5 for average speed of running
Top 5 for repeat sprints
Number 1 for defensive KMs.
And had 24 disposals, mostly kicks, at 79% efficiency. With a goal and 7 score involvements.
He's not being left out.
Yeah he was. He's not always great on the eye test as he loses sprints and isn't great in a contest, but if you want to win games on the back of pressure and run like we do, you need blokes who do a heap of positional running to take out their options and set up the ground for you. And if that bloke is also really solid with ball in hand, he's going to get a game every week like Lippa does, even when the eye test is questionable.Without seeing those stats. The eye test he wouldve been in my top 5 easily on the ground
But you are talking about what they could become in the future. Fly is picking the team to win that day, not to develop/improve and be better in 12 months.I know there are alot of Lippa lovers on here but I reckon Allan should be playing his role. Either way, he said that he chose Sullivan instead of Allan to play a specific role - so maybe there isn't a need for that role next week and Allan can come back in.
Lippa played his best game in about a year, good to seeGo to the AFL app and check out the tracker section:

Those running stats are pretty standard for Lippa. And he played a fair few games last year where he was similar with ball in hand. It's why he's a regular. It wasn't an unusual game from him.Lippa played his best game in about a year, good to see
