Draper got more disposals in a quarter and a bit than Curtin did in the match.

(He did go past him pretty quick and then go quiet for the last 10 minutes or so)

Curtin 7 possessions in a game where we flogged the opposition is a worry.

Nah. It isn't.

He's in a wasteland role, and is going to put up nothing numbers whilst we persist with this 4th tall/wing hybrid role. However, we also have no need for Curtin skillset right now but need to give him as much AFL time as possible. This year is just about flashes until a role opens up for him as we begin to incur injuries.

Watch for him in the back of 2025.

They’ll swap roles next week

Curtin isn’t far off , some nice little moments just need more

Nicks made right call to keep him out there for once

Liked his 2 contested marks in a row in 2nd quarter

Why are so many of our own so keen to drag this guy down?

There's enough oppo fans and media that will do that.

It's like some feel the need to get on the front foot because they feel like talk will come. They would rather be the one saying it.

I really want him to succeed.

But would he really be out there if he wasn’t pick 8 a year ago?

We took Tex off for the sole purpose of giving Curtin more space to get the ball (and he didn’t, not really). Didn’t really impact the game where we won by 10 goals.

If by round 3 we don’t see a ‘break out game’ then you’d have to send him back to SANFL. And if that happens, I expect him to leave at seasons end for a packet of chips to WA.

Happy to be proven wrong. Trust me. But the fact I’m celebrating when he touches the ball (not even does something good) is… concerning.

He's great until he can't use his handball.

It felt like we limited how much ball he got outside of the contests. Not being a link man as much as he was last year, which is why he's using his hands so much. I thought in particular he worked really well with Soligo, where despite going backwards with it, we had planned for that with Soligo off the back of the stoppage moving forwards, so it created a perfect option for Crouch to handball to

Whats weird is that I thought being at the game, Harry Boyd played well, looked to be getting his hand to a number of hitouts and used his body well. Then I see the stats and O'Brien had nearly double the hit outs. So a good game from Reilly.

This had the feeling of a game that we were still blowing some cobwebs out from with a dominant 1st quarter and 3rd quarter and spluttering in the 2nd and 4th so plenty to work on but overall we had the game won early which was a great way to start the season.

All played well here, and regardless Curtin not getting a heap of it, just play him ad it was great that they rested Tex for Draper instead of subbing Curtin out. He will be a slower burn but the more games we get into him now, the better he will be for it.

And a shoutout to Rachele - cracking game and attention to detail by changing his goal celebration song to me signals he has drawn a line under last year and is fully focused and raring to go.

Hopefully this is the case.

The worst thing would be to drop him after a few poor games statistically. He makes am impact every time he is involved.

Needs to play every week, but does need a defined role.

It's funny how your opinion gets skewed when at the game compared to TV.

At the game, I felt Milera had more of it/was more involved than the stats show, but Crouch was the opposite - I hardly noticed him much, yet big stats.
On TV I felt Milera was hardly sighted and Crouch was pretty good/involved.

I can see why Nicks wants Milera in the side because we kept going back to the short kick game from back half to kill time and that's an area he's generally really good at.

That was one area that constantly came unstuck for us though and particularly because we kept doing it going into the wind, rather than going long down the line if you insist on playing safe.

The experienced players always pick up more of the ball than it appears.

The most comical ones were at the end, when our heavily-cramped defenders painfully kicked the ball backwards and forwards among themselves in front of the oppo goal.

Milera was terrible. I know we won easily, but you don't get to play with a full strength team at home against a middling team missing 7 of their best 22 very often. Deliberately carrying players is a luxury you can ill-afford most weeks.
Terrible is a massive overstatement. He was pretty quiet, especially in the first half, but not bad at all. Defended well and was clean when he got the ball.

Mate I thought you said you weren’t watching the first half in the match day thread?

Seems a little negative post. Milera was fine, no way was he terrible

Good
  • RT and Fog are a monster duo
  • Rankine and Rachelle awesome
  • Soligo continues getting better
  • all our four debutants impacted
  • Worrell showing why we missed him in [emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji638][emoji640]
  • one of ROB’s better games
