What about Reid from WCE? What's his JS like as someone to play every week as a R3? Or better off just going Reidy? Problem is his long-term prospects don't seem great.

Use Ethan Read 2024 as a comparison - average of 40 with stat line of 5 disposals, 4 hitouts, 1 goal a game & a sub risk playing a tough role (probably toughest in footy) in a bad team.
Easy fade.

Reidy or Boyd R3?

Just take the 99k ruck. None of the cheapies are doing a lot. Reidy might get to 200k if Darcy misses over a month.

SDK V Reidy might be the first 0 HTA game ever recorded

In the grand scheme of things it's probably not that important but are we running Boyd or WC Reid or someone else as R3? I know nothing about either, but one is dirt cheap and the other is DPP so both seem ok

Running with Boyd. Rumours are Marshall will play more forward with Boyd having a bigger slice of Ruck work. Good enough of a rumour for me when he’s 99k.

For any English owners looking to abandon ship already and looking at budget options like me:

This might be crazy but I'm going Oscar McInerney and I think he needs to be considered.
Averaged 99 in non-injury affected games last year, priced at 94, scored 110 on the weekend against Grundy who isn't an easy match-up. No longer has the early bye.

McInernery's next 5 opponents:
R2 - West Coast (Witts went 144 on the weekend vs. WCE with 68 hitouts)
R3 - Geelong (Jackson had 65%CBA for 39 hitouts against SDK for a 91)
R4 - Richmond (TDK went 147 with 30 hitouts)
R5 - Western Bulldogs (Xerri went 122 with 51 hitouts)
R6 - St Kilda (ROB went 82SC with 47 hitouts)

McInerney averaged 110 against the above teams last year. He's in his prime at 30 years old, #1 ruck for the team that just won the flag and will challenge again, 82% CBA on the weekend and hitting to one of the best midfield groups in the comp (delicious HTA)

Priced at 517K and if you picked English, I'm guessing it's because you wanted a budget option before eventually bridging your way to Gawn or Xerri. The 5-game fixture above is almost perfect for McInerney before you bridge your way to a (hopefully) cheaper Xerri or Gawn.

EDIT: Just realised I totally missed that he plays Colllingwood in Round 6 and St Kilda in Round 7. Against Collingwood last year he went 107 and 131, and Sweet scored a 90 against Collingwood on the weekend in a team that got belted.

Few question marks/counter points I have (not saying you’re wrong - just discussing & slightly devils advocate)

1) is Grundy really that difficult to score against? Meek just went 126 v him - he kicked 2 goals but he just ragdolled him in the contest too. In the back end of 2024 OMac himself went 107 v him last year, Cameron 165, Sweet 108 & 88 (averaged that 87ish mark), ROB 92 (averaged 93), Draper 93 (sharing ruck with Bryan).

Briggs didn’t score well & neither did English - dunno what happened with Briggs but English is a bit Grundy like in that he’s happy to get 20 odd soft touches if he gets a good stats line & doesn’t get hurt.

2) are you not concerned about points to go around? Zorko, Dunkley, Neale, Washcroft, Clug, whoever kicks 3-4 up forward (Bailey/Cameron/Hipwood), while I suspect Neale falls away as he takes a back seat role the main mids should all go 100+ (110+ for Dunks & Neale), and Zorko can go 110+ too.

3) TDK also had 28 disposals, 18 contested, I suspect that’s the bulk of his scoring, not HTA. Xerri also likely scored bulk points through 13 contested possessions, 7 tackles & 3 intercept marks. Omac is not like these 2 in how he scores points.
Marshall is probably back to ruck by round 6 with a lot more fitness under his belt (probably being the operative word).
Jackson scoring 91 doesn’t excite me much tbh.

Again, not trying to be a prick and disagree but think always good to have considered the other side before making a call so hope throwing around some thoughts helps.

English added to the watchlist...

Flynn to English at Flex might cost nothing in a month
My plan is still Hodor in the Flex role ....hopefully, Flynn to Hodor is for minimal chips

I've definitely considered the potential negatives - I'm wanting to limit the chance that this blows up, but I'm convinced the positives far outweigh the negatives.

His scores last year against the 6 teams he's coming up against:
West Coast: 112
Geelong: 53 in 30% TOG (injured) and 23 in 44% TOG (This is where he dislocated his shoulder early, tried to play through it and then dislocated it again from memory)
Richmond: 120
Collingwood: 107 in Rd 3 and 131 in Rd23
WBD: 131
St Kilda: 76 in Rd14 and then 94 in Rd21

That's a 110.1 average against the teams above (I didn't count the 2 Cats games) in comparison to his 96.8 average against other teams in the comp last year. You could easily make the case that he was on track to go 110+ against the Cats in the game where he went 53 from 30% TOG.

I'm well aware he's not an attractive choice to say the least, but if you're ever going to pick McInerney, there's no better time than to have him for the next 6 games.

Cards on the table here for why I'm even considering English to Oscar: I started without Bailey Smith, so English -> McInerney is the move that lets me go Hugo Garcia -> Bailey Smith. If I had Smith I'd probably hold English and never even consider Oscar.

Finishing the year with a Ruck only at flex with No trades left will only end in tears IMO.

It’s still best 22, right? You can cop a 0 in a position if you’ve got Gawn, Xerri & TDK popping out 125+ every week (R1, R2, flex).

Not to mention Marshall could well get DPP & then it’s just a matter of getting a 99k R/F at R3, & Marshall as F6.

I think all of Gawn, Xerri & 3rd best ruck (probably TDK) end up top 20 scorers (there were 4 rucks in the top 20 in 2024), I think it’s a great strategy to load up unless I’m missing something

Marshall looked a bit gassed at the end last week, but not on the injury report.

Thoughts on the ruck split this week as they build him up before axing Boyd?

hopefully the same - want Marshall as a fwd in a few weeks

I was expecting a double tonne against Keefe. :moustache:
Scythe94 kept saying he didn’t ton up first hit out. I’d say 129 is a huge result. It’s a tough crowd when they’re complaining about a 129.
