Hot Topic Michael Voss - Coaching in 2026. Should he remain beyond that?

If we had a really good group of assistants under Voss and he was willing to listen then I bet coaching would not be an issue.

I think Voss as a head is ok. But if the body is weak then what can he do?

I'd love to get some people in who have been at a really successful club for a very long time to work under him.

Leppitsch and Lappin are two names straight off the bat. I'd be happy to break the bank on those two and have the rest come in as rookie coaches fresh out of the game.

Truth is, our assistants were probably on their last chance of employment in the AFL coaching fraternity. They were lucky they had us because they were out the door at their other clubs. It just seemed at the time we took what we could get. Which is fine but to make no changes in all these years. Strange.

To me Voss seems a strong head but he needs good people around him. He can't do everything, no one can.

I dont see it that way. Voss has last call.

Blaming assistants is fools gold and which assistant would of said last week let’s play Cripps in the ruck against Nank???

He also praised Haynes in his review and WTF? He was terrible and it was 1 game but **** me make the player’s accountable and the coach is not there to be there friend he is there to get results and make hard calls. Not fence sit.

Voss is a good assistant maybe but HC i have seen enough. See what this board and all social media is like at 10pm tonight for a reality check.

Kade Simpson would be a interesting candidate to consider if Voss is to go
Listening to Adam Simpson on SEN last Saturday and he was just so spot on. I dont care how he went in the last 2 years at WCE, he is a better coach than that. I absolutely think he'd be perfect. And to think we signed Voss for another 2 years last year. He is a good leader of men but he categorically cannot coach.

Simpson is a fantastic coach but would be awful with our list. He built his team about precision kicking and we have none of that.

But that is exactly what we need. We are soo poor at disposal, thats why we are perceived as slow.

If we go 0-4 he has to go.
Totally agree, and the bloke I would appoint is not even on the above list and yet he is at the club already and helping Voss. People may not think he is up to it, but he has been looked at for interstate club interviews but never wanted to leave Victoria so knocked the invitations back, and that is Hanson (e?) who seems next in line as far as understudies go anyway and the club seems like they value him ok.......just a thought.....as most of those retreads don`t appeal much to me, except for Longmire perhaps?

we have a lot of talented players on our list, however they aren’t hungry enough and that is a coaching issue.

When you think of our list about players who get the absolute maximum out of themselves, they are few and far between.

The best example is JSOS, he’s not the most talented or athletic but he gets the absolute most out of himself and his mentality is outstanding.

The entire hawks 22 play with that mentality.

As I said that is a coaching, club culture issue. Sam Mitchell is responsible for that.

Voss isn’t capable of that

We aren't perceived as slow. We are slow. Don't have one quick player on our list. Saad about 3 years ago was express, now just average.
Well yes, but it's our floaters and poor disposal that makes us that way. Moving the ball quickly means good disposal and moving the ball fast, not necessarily running up and back fast. Quick hands to a quick mind onto accurate feet.

Exactly what we need. So many out there tonight who were out of form and not consistent. We need precision.
Yes but when you took away Simpsons elite kicks his team turned into a steaming pile of poo was more my point.

If you put Simpson in charge of this list we would be going through a rebuild to make the list in his image.

Can't kick to stationary targets and expect to hit them on the tit. Players don't lead, can't create separation.

Absolute joke. Extend a contract of someone when they're in demand. He hasn't been in demand as a head coach since Brisbane. Went for interviews with every club, never got close, then got a gig with us because we rates coaching experience above coaching ability at the time.

JSOS has been training back all preseason, so when Harry gets sick, our genius decides to bring young in to play back and swing jack forward. Why not leave jack back and give a kid like moir a shot? He's shown more in 2 quarters than young has in any games weiters is fit for. Give the kid a go and stop playing unfit players just because they are big names ffs (Curnow, not young).

Tell me what part of his game plan has changed in 4 years? It’s like ground hog day.
If you watched The Recruit on Foxtel back in the day, it was clear that Voss wasn’t up to being head coach. I doubt Brian Cook will sack him anytime soon, but you never know, it might work out in the end, just as it has for teams like us and Richmond.
